Excellent Book
I didn't even read the casebook because it was too blah... This was the best book I found for Future Interests...

Somewhat helpful
For the most part, there is nothing this book can teach you that you won't find in your casebook, but the problems are good practice. A lot of the information is helpful, but I don't know if you can trust all of the answers. My study group and I have found various confusing mistakes within and it has cost us valuable study time. See e.g. page 152 --second paragraph explaining a RAP problem (the author confuses O and A in saying that all of A's children would be born or conceived upon O's death). ... Read more

It works
Overcoming the Inheritance Taboo is a terrific book.It helped me in two ways.Not only did I learn about the emotional issues surrounding inheritance and the grieving process that sometimes split families apart and why it's so important to talk about these things BEFORE our loved ones die, it gave me the means to do so:
Difficult subject handled with grace
Dr. Hendlin tackles a famously volatile family situation with insight and grace. His characterizations of the roles various family members play are both witty and excruciatingly accurate. The book is well-crafted structurally and at the granular level: the information is presented in an easy-to-find format, and Hendlin's writing is elegant and lucid, all of which makes it easier to ponder this difficult subject. The effect is like having a spoonful of jam with your medicine.

the book arrived in a timely manner, it was in excellent condition, it met my expectations.

I was looking for a book to help me manage a living trust for someone who is still living, so I bought this book.Although this book is quite good, it primarily discusses trusts for someone who has already died (when the trust becomes irrevocable).I learned that after death, there is a period in which the deceased person's estate is "settled" (bills and taxes paid) by the executor, then the rest of the estate passes into the trust.From there, the trustee (who may be the same as the executor) can make use of the info in this book.

Might be so basic it's not worth your time
If you're looking for solid guidance as an executer or fiduciary, go elsewhere."How to Settle and Estate" is the better choice.The handbook gives a scant 7 pages of practical advice on what to do if/whensomeone close has died. Things like: Contact the funeral director,determine your parent's wishes concerning the funeral, ascertain whetheryour parents have already paid for their funeral, notify friends, locatethe original copy of the will - - you get the idea.I was verydisappointed especially given the glowing reviews provided by others.

Most books on estates and trusts are simply clueless in dealing with anything except for numbers and laws, as seen from the perspective of someone setting up a trust. Good presentation of "Plus's & Negatives" of alternatives

Good info but accuracy of forms questionable
Overall, the guide was informative, but don't use the forms without additional research!The author DOES mention that the forms may not be correct for your particular county.They weren't.Headers, and signature blocks were incorrect for my county (Brevard).I found other examples of the correct documents online and adjusted accordingly.Simple items, such as providing the court with a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of judgements, seems like info that should have been in the book. ...
