5-0 out of 5 stars A classic!!!!!!!!!
As soon as I bought the book I could not put it down I read it from top to bottom non-stop. This book is an easy read and very applicable. I highly recommend this book to gain greater insights in the Music business or any business. It was a great buy along with a couple of manuals purchased from Musicbrains.net entitled the Indie label Kit onAmazon, Music business 101, future of music and Guide to releasing an independent record by Tim Sweeney.

4-0 out of 5 stars excelent
The music industry world ins an alien environment for most of the emerging artists and many need guidance to avoid scams and legal glitches, this book can be a good guide in defeating those lawyers that try to fool you into a deal. Despite the depth and professionalism , the book it isn't the best out there,” Music Business & Entertainment Law Contracts for Indie Recording Artist, Labels, Songwriters, Composers, Producers, Managers and All Others in the Record Industry. Binder / CD-ROM set (PC & Mac)" by Ty Cohen is far better when dealing with all the aspects and it includes viewpoints from different men in the industry, and also includes clear and easy to understand examples

5-0 out of 5 stars Real World Advice from a Real Guy - Highly Recommended
Not only is this book (and it's prequel, "Confessions of a Record Producer") the real deal, so is the man who wrote it. I was so impressed by his first book that I contacted him as a consultant on a producer/artist agreement I was negotiating (I am a producer). My goal was to come up with something that was actually fair to both parties and Moses got us to that point quickly. His suggestions were works of innovation that surprised and satisfied everyone.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I bought this book!
I will probably be asked in the next few yearsto be an executor, but, asis mentioned in this book's introduction, "You know generally that anexecutor is someone who handles the affairs of a deceased person, but youhave no idea how to get the job done." After reading this book, youknow that the first thing to do after the funeral is to hire an estateattorney to tell youwhat must be done. The book also mentions that itmight be possible to totally avoid probate, which could greatly simplifythings and save money. This book stresses that there is no need to tryto be a do-it-yourself executor. You're definitely going to consult with alawyer to see what the current estate laws are in your area, and you mightneed to also hire other professionals, but these people should all remainhired hands; the executor must stay in command.I didn't expect thisbook to give the estate-law quirks for all fifty states; you might findthat some of what it says doesn't apply in your state. It's still a verygood introduction to being an executor, and it let me know that an executordoesn't have to be totally helpless in legal land. That in itself is worththe book's cost!

4-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best
I have read six different books concerning wills, probate, and trusts in the past few months.Of the books that I have read, this is clearly the best. All of the standard stuff is here - except the constant reminders bythe authors to hire an attorney.Unlike nearly all the other books, theauthors do not talk-down to readers. The language was never toosimple-minded and only in a few cases did I have to read a paragraph againto determine its meaning. The authors give hints and insights which I didnot find in the other books. And the book contains the best explanation Ihave read concerning why trying to determine and report the lowest possiblevalue of estate assets is not always the best idea.I do not plan to diefor several years. If I could give to my future executor only one book, this would be it.I miss only estate/probate information about each state. Therefore, I am still confused about the interrelationship between stateestate reporting and taxes and federal ones.Essentially, everythingdepends on the value of the taxable estate. If 20% of the readers of thisbook do so in anticipation of a death, my bet is that only 1% of those willhave a taxable estate over $1 million. And those people not having amillion-dollar estate (after 2006) will not need to pay federal estatetaxes - thereby eliminating the need for most of the book.First-timeexecutors reading the book because of immediate need and suspecting ataxable estate value more than $675,000 will be able to afford to hire alawyer to do the (subjectively) most difficult parts of the job.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, But!
As an overview, it's difficult to imagine a better introduction to the labyrinthine ways of settling an estate. But as to details and particulars, it's woefully inadequate. The checklist at the end of the book is helpful. The thesis, viz., KEEP RECORDS, is important. But it's examples andsuggestions on how to do certain, e.g., tangible acts, like dealing withcreditors, secured versus unsecured claims, goes unmentioned. despite itsenormous importance. There's only two sample letters, and they're notaltogether novel or esoteric. Again, a good overview, just very short onparticular issues, examples, and samples. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This bookis gold!
This book is gold.I have bought several books trying to get a clear and concise handle on what is involved in making my business legal. They all bogged me down with things I didn't understand or was left with more questions.Until this book.Richard Stim starts right off with no bull.He states in layman terms what decisions need to made first and moves right on down the line.He gives clear examples of do's and don'ts and always gives references online for further exploration. He also suggests, when necessary, to check with an attorney and what legal forms you can do yourself and what forms can be adjusted. This book comes with a CD of legal forms, so there is no hunting them or tracking down the right offices at the court house.Richard Stim takes a lot of the mystery away and makes you feel confident.I highly recommend this book for anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Intro to AssetProtection
This book is probably the best entry level guide to asset protection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for general public
I read through the book and learned a lot about various aspects of asset protection. This book is focused on small business, as it says, and it does an excellent job when discussing various 'tools'. There are many great asset protection 'tools' out there, but what works for you is all you need to care about, and this books does just that to small business owners.5-0 out of 5 stars What every small to large-sized business owner needs !!
It's clear that the author has years of experience in protecting business owners' hard-earned assets. The author's asset protection strategies range from simple and inexpensive to complex and costly. This really makes the book suitable for managers of large corporations as well as small business owners. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Legal Contracts
I found this book most useful for the CD-ROM's legal contracts. As a consultant, I use these for all my clients.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good content, bad editing
There is a lot of good information and discussion in this book about the topics which a contract should cover. It falls down, however, when it comes to the actual contracts.Just comparing the website and the custom software contracts, there are differences where there shouldn't be.In the software contract, it's theCustomer, in the website contract, it's the Client.A bit more than half of the contract sections with (mostly) identical headings and purpose have unexplained differences between them. Many of these differences are not trivial. In the text, the contracts are interleaved with explanations, but often the commentary/annotations are just restatements of the contract itself, which is a real time-waster, especially if you've read the background material earlier in the book.Other occasional editing snafus include explanatory comments inside the contract text, formatting syntax commands on the page (END SECTION), and a less than clear and concise structure for indicating optional clauses (the intended combinations aren't always clear, even though customization is to be expected).Given the fuzzy line between a website and a web application (ie 'custom software' (and really, what website is NOT custom?)), and given the marked similarities in over half of the two contracts, why not cover the overlapping sections just once, instead of twice, but inconsistently? And the sections that don't overlap, or overlap badly? No real explanation as to the reasons for the differences.I hope I don't have the same problems with the two versions of the independent contractor agreement.Fishman has written a pile of legal books for the layman, including the more recent "Consultant And Independent Contractor Agreements 5th Edition".I have to wonder: "Quantity over quality?"Perhaps when he is working on the next edition of this book ("Legal Guide to Web & Software Development", due out 8/2007), he will take the time to re-organize some of the content and get a capable editor.A determined reader can sort out the differences on their own, but it need not be so difficult. The content is 5 stars (including 24 documents in RTF format), but making it work for you is a real pain if you care about details.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have spent my life at sea.So did my son.
Deaths, accidents and collisions and sinkings at sea are not viewed by U.S. Courts with laws that confine the everyday civil, criminal, commercial, or real estate business of this country.Like the sea itself, U.S. Maritime Law is a collection of interconnected forces that one must navigate to pass.5-0 out of 5 stars Pocket Part not included
