Great book for new scopists
This is a great book for new scopists to read.It gives you an overviewof what court reporter's do.Learning about their jobs will help us, thescopists, do our job better.It is also a good book to get if you arethinking of becoming a court reporter.It goes over stipulations,parentheticals, motions, objections, etc.The part I liked best about thisbook is it gave alot of examples on preliminaries, title pages, appearancepage, index page, transcripts.Read more

Great for learning and teaching.
I teach a course at a local community college and use this book as my text.The book is relatively cheap, especially for college books, and very well written.It describes some of our most influential Supreme Court cases in the past half century.The style that it is written in is ideal for learning and keeping the reader interested.
Great resource for laymen interested in the Court
These recordings are a great resources for anyone intersted in the US supreme court.This is probably doubly true as the nomination and approval process is upon us again.The records reveal much that is lost in a purely written transcript, which is the source ofone of my misgivings of the packaging -- the companion book is nothing more than a literal transcription of the tapes.The book could have provided more background, or in-depth analysis, or a copy of the constitution, or the full text of the opinions.Sadly, it provides none of these.
Very Entertaining With A Few Missteps
I fully enjoyed this series and own each set. The first series has additional charm because of the nice packaging, which decreased in charm as later sets came out. The plastic display holder and hard cover companion book, including a transcript of each tape, is a nice touch.

Thought provoking and interesting
Like it's predecessor, "May it Please The Court", "The First Amendment" contains cassettes with edited oral arguments before the Supreme Court. The highlights of the arguments are held together by commentary from Peter Irons, who also introduces each case with a brief history and a review of the legal questions involved. It also finishes with another short talk by Irons, indicating how the Court ruled and talking a bit about the opinions. The companion book has transcripts of the cassettes, as well as highlights from the opinions in the case. "May It Please the Court" Works Well in the Classroom

Not useful outside a high school course
The book is probably adequate as a textbook in a high school covering an introduction to Constitutional Law. Great text for high school students
This book is the text you wish you had in high school.It takes on the legal issues that have shaped our society through the eyes of the high school student.The author suceeds in distilling the facts and spirit of these historic moments in an accessible and non-condescending manner.I have enjoyed exploring this book with my kids. After teaching two semesters out of this book at the high school level, I found that I and the students were reading less and less of this book. At first, I was excited by about the book. However, it began to drag on me, when I soon realized, that there was no teacher's edition, no real high school activities, and limited reveiw questions. I had to start writing entire chapters and rarely used the actual textbook. The material was vague and over general at best. Little research was done into the deeper issues that can make the cases come alive. However, the lack of activities kill this book for me and I wonder why I switch from the Street Law book in the first place. Next year, I'll go back. ... Read more

I havent actually read the whole book but I dont even need to because the beginning was well written enough that I could easily remark on the book's diversity.That is what it is, this book is diverse and unique.Anyonecan put together odd legal cases but these are put together in a way thatit is almost like a story.A story of the flaws and quirks the legalsystems around the world.This is a great book and I strongly recommendit. ...
