3-0 out of 5 stars Alright.
In a word, this book "sucks."I had to purchase it for a class in which I am currently using.Yea, it has an ABUNDANCE of useful information, but the part that gets me is the fact that if your teacher uses Abadinsky's testing booklet, it's all wrong. It's even been discussed in our class at how off the test questions are as opposed to what's in his book.If possible, which is hard when it comes to textbooks, buy another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for Criminal Justice majors
I am a college professor who just finished teaching ORGANIZED CRIME to twenty college juniors and seniors.I selected Abadinsky's book as the text because it is carefully and thoughtfully "choreographed."The information provided flows in a sensible and clearly written design. Some texts appear to be designed for Rhodes Scholars and are virtually impossible to read. This is not the case with this great book!I recommend it to teachers and those who have in interest in this fascinating subject.

If you (the reader, the researcher) is interested in Organized Crime, I strongly recommend this book (Howard Abadinsky's Organized Crime, 6th Ed.) 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good comprehensive text
This book was mandatory for a forensic case law course taught by a seasoned forensic expert. It is thorough, accurate, and provides everything one needs to know before conducting forensic evaluations, as well as a significant amount of information most professionals ought to know but often don't.I recommend it as a tremendous resource for any clincian, especially those who have even a mild interest in forensic or correctional psychology.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5+*s
Not a light Sunday afternoon read, this book requires time to think and digest topics. It provides outstanding survey and advanced analysis of research, U.S. laws, and policies across the major foci. While a bit dated, it probably is the best source for gaining an understanding of forensic mental health. An outstanding reference.I feel somewhat odd in reviewing this book, almost like, I'd imagine someone feels when reviewing the Bible.Well worth the price.I wish it would have an annual or biannual update.

4-0 out of 5 stars Journeyman's Opinion
Excellent reference, but a little outdated as of this writing (Dec. 2001).Opinions and recommendations of the authors do not in all respects reflect the majority, or even the respectible minority, of forensic psychologists and psychiatrists.Nonetheless, an excellent reference to have in your library to get the overall gist of an issue or a topic at the interface of psychology and the law.Detailed information pertaining to actual practices will need to be located elsewhere. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable New information for Mediators
This newly revised edition of The Promise of Mediation offers a wealth of new information on the priniciples of transformative conflict intervention. Many readers may not be aware that the revised edition actually contains almost entirely new material, reflecting new understandings of transformative mediation that have developed since the publication of the first edition.Bush and Folger offer new specifics for practice in the transformative framework of mediation through a carefully analyzed case study, in which we can see details of the "small steps" of conflict transformation. They also discuss the impact that the transformative movement has had on the field as a whole, and debunk some common misconceptions about the transformative framework.I have especially enjoyed the last chapter, which addresses, more completely than anything in the first edition, the deep underlying values that have led to the articulation of a transformative vision for mediation, and looks at possibilities for the future of the field.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Huge Step Forward in the Art and Science of Mediation
I'm grateful to the authors for the significant advance in mediation thinking that this book represents. This new edition has the potential to move the entire field toward a deeper, more powerful understanding. With the original edition, and again with this one, Bush and Folger have provided great clarity to a topic that, until now, has been muddled. While other mediators and writers succumb to the pressures of conflict and become part of the problem, these authors instruct us on how to remain true to the most important principles that lead to deep healing of human conflict. If I had the need, I would only hire a mediator who had read, studied, understood and embraced this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Introduction to Criminal Justice (with CD) by Larry J. Siegel
Criminology and criminal justice has been the subject of a lot of research. Critical criminology has evolved over the past two decades and a number of new sub-branches have developed. Most popular research would be improved by greater emphasis on the branch of criminology known as "Minarchist Realism" or "Libertarian Realism."

5-0 out of 5 stars Ritter's book breaks new ground
Ritter's book breaks new ground in the universe of "how to" books for lawyers. In a highly readable, even engaging, personal style, the author demonstrates that even complex legal and factual issues can be simplified and dramatized effectively for a jury. The presentation in the text, and accompanying CD, is rich with visually arresting and intriguing graphic examples illustrating both the right, and wrong, ways to convey themes, concepts and facts at trial. After reading this book, even experienced courtroom lawyers will not try cases the same way again.Although written for trial lawyers, the book is really about how to be visually persuasive in any forum, not simply in a courtroom.Although the book will have its greatest impact in improving the quality of trial work, particularly in complex cases, it belongs in the library of anyone in the business of persuading others, whether in the legal profession or not.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for any attorney who goes to trial.
There is an old adage, "seeing is believing" but in reality, it's how the information is formulated and presented that will determine how well information is conveyed. This book is a masterpiece of showing just how visual information is presented in the courtroom. Mr. Ritter has done nothing less than a phenomenal job of showing the why's and wherefore of presenting visual evidence in the courtroom. Any attorney who is not aware of the information presented in this book is going to go to trial much less prepared than his or her adversary who probably has read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reveals the Secrets Behind Brilliant Legal Graphics...
With just the right mix of folk wisdom and technical know-how, this gem of a book distills a tremendous amount of courtroom knowledge down to some very practical advice. These are the sorts of lessons one would otherwise have to learn the hard way, only after years and years spent before judges and juries.

This is a fantastic hard cover book which relates much of the information needed when working in the related field. Tjompson/Delmar Learning publishers are among the highest in their field. If you are looking for a source on Civil litigation then you most certainly have found it.

This book is very poorly written. There are many typographical errors throughout the book and many, many inaccuracies in the content. Some terms are used incorrectly and instead of assisting the reader in learning civil litigation, it creates confustion and frustration.
