A wonderful book for applying Law everyday.
This is a wonderful book because of the way it is organized from the definitions of law and how American government works in terms of business dealings and legal relationships with others. I'm impressed at the margin headings of each chapter and a thorough definitions of each law which is easy for the reader to read and understand. An additional pro of this book is the numerous case examples given within each chapter and towards the end. Each case is interesting and useful once you take a thorough look through it. Reviews encouraged it, so I bought both...
... both "Divorce & Money" books, that is, one by Smith and the other by Woodhouse. And I have to say, while this book DOES have a lower price, in this case you get what you pay for.
IN YOUR HOUR OF NEED
Recently, I purchased Gayle Rosenwald Smith's DIVORCE AND MONEY, Everything You Need To Know, as I am starting divorce proceedings for the second time. I cannot recomend this book highly enough. I was confused as to why this informative, excellent book has recieved such negative comments by some of Amazon's reviewers. There is another book with the same title--but with a different sub-title, that was refered to as preferable; eventhough I found that Nolo Press book (which I examined) to be less informative, more difficult to comprehend and more expensive; $14.95 v. $34.99.
This is the wrong book!
I got this book on accident after my friend recommended the Nolo book by the same name. I was really not expecting much and this book lived up to my expectations because it kept saying "Go see a lawyer! Go see a lawyer!" Then my friend saw I had the wrong book... Part of the reason I picked up this book was all the good reviews, but then I see that many of them come from Philadelphia, where this book's author is from. Coincidence? Probably not because all their comments don't seem to match the contents. Do yourself a favor and get the Nolo book, it's really much better. ... Read more

Ignorance is not helpful
Matters of law are usually best left to attorneys and alike. It makes perfect sense to have some basic knowledge before entering any type of business. I really enjoyed the manner in which this book is organized. The straightforward approach of this book is much appreciated. A must read for anyone who wants to take photos beyond family gatherings.

A must for any citizen with a camera
Krages has done all of us a great favor by writing this book. Taking pictures is NOT a crime, and as long as you're on public property, you can photograph just about anything. Knowlege is ammunition and all photographers should know their rights.

Excellent resource for artists
This is an excellent resource to define and explain legal issues in the arts. It is a little dry in some parts but far easier to read than books written for the legal profession. I have been using this book as a textbook for a college class at an art school for graphic design students for several years.
Great Reference Guide
Even if you have the luxury of an attorney that speicalizes in art contracts, as I do, this is a great book of forms to keep handy for quick reference. My advice is to get it with his other book: Business & Legal Forms for Fine Artists also by Tad Crawford

This book simplifies corporations law and gives concrete examples and good summaries. A Valuable Study Guide
I cannot imagine getting through my exam study for corporations without this guide.It gives a very clear explanation of the topics that were covered in class.It is very helpful to people only taking corporations because of the bar exam rather than a specific interest in practicing in this area.One caveat - unlike some other outlines, this text does not specifically brief any cases, so it is still essential to keep up with the text and attend class.

Covers the new law comprehensively and accessibly
To begin with, bankruptcy law changed completely as of October 17, 2005 for really the first time since 1978. Therefore, all books published before that date are pretty much worthless since they are giving you outdated advice on the old law. Of the ones that are in print covering the new law that I have looked through, this one seems to be the best combination of accessible and complete. It does a good job of answering common questions that a person would ask about bankruptcy in the new environment, as well as going into painstaking detail about all of the changes to the law, including the new means test. Included are the steps you need to take to declare bankruptcy, the order in which you need to take them, and the forms you need to fill out. The book also talks about impacts to your life you might not have thought of, such as how declaring bankruptcy might impact your ability to get certain types of jobs or even auto insurance of all things! The reason I have read so much about this is not that I have declared or am planning to declare bankruptcy. Just call me an interested citizen that followed the debate over the new law very carefully and therefore I know a little more than the average citizen about what is in the new law. Just what the doctor ordered!
Nolo's Legal Guide to Starting and Running a Small Business was exactly what I needed to help start my company off on the right foot. I don't have a very strong legal backround and would have been way over my head if I'd tried to forge ahead totally alone but at the same time I didn't want to spend a fortune consulting a lawyer. If you're in a similar situation then Nolo's Legal Guide is the perfect solution. It is well written, well organized, thorough, and very easy to use. It's a great general start-up kit that would be helpful to any fledgling business that I can think of. If I had had to call a lawyer to answer every legal question that arose in the first couple of months (a huge number) then my company may easily have never gotten off the ground. I was so pleased with this product that I have since purchased two more Nolo books (Tax Savvy for Small Business and The Employer's Legal Handbook) that are more directed at business owners who have gotten through the initial start-up phase.
