A good start ...
I found this book engaging for the most part. I especially appreciated some of the snippets of speeches and the description of the interplay between Madison and Patrick Henry and James Monroe and others.

Enlightening, Fun & Important Read
It's a dense and fun work in a very interesting and important topic. It was my first book on law&economics, and I am very satisfied with it. I highly recommend it especially for those who love economics--you will learn fascinating insights. The chapters on tort and criminal law were my favorites. David Friedman is a great teacher, in print or talk (if you haven't seen him speak, don't miss a chance).

Should Voodoo practice be punishable?
As soon as I was finished with this book, I turned around and read it again.Friedman is picking up a theme that he introduced towards the end of the revised Machinery of Freedom, in which he states that in order to understand certain mechanisms, we must undertake the economic analysis of law.This discipline was generally considered to have been initiated by Ronald Coase and taken up and popularized by Richard Posner.Friedman's own work advances the study into areas of law that relate to the internet and computers. interesting read, annoying footnote approach
Liked the book. But instead of using citations and footnotes, he uses icons that point to his web site. This is supposed to be make it easier to read, but it's very annoying. I hope this doesn't become a trend. ... Read more

This Book Tries to Do the Impossible
Prison is a mean ugly horrible place.The rules are all subjective until someone wants them to be otherwise.Prison is about politics not justice in America.Prison is about so much more than just what what happens in the court room.
The impossible write
I picked this book up at a second hand store because the title intrigued me. The book appropriately and realistically interprets the legal & correctional system as a beast that is to be both feared and confronted. The authors pull no punches and blatantly discuss the dishonesty, apathy and agenda-driven decisions that taint the legal system. Individuals faced with the prospect of going to prison need to understand what they can expect, and more importantly what they cannot expect (expediency, fairness, empathy) from the legal system in America.
Terrible
I learned more in a upper class area San Francisco Drunk Holding Tank about prison life as a teenager, than I did reading this BORING BOOK!! To be honest I only got half way through....I read the other reader's thumbs down review of this book and I still bought it!!! Not to mention, its a really odd size book! I read this book and it was great!
I found this book very easy to understand and informative. I have attended estate planning seminars and other financial conferences, but came away overwhelmed and confused. Jay has a great personal story that really adds to his credibility. After I finished reading it, I immediately read it again. I know what to do and what not to do. I have changed the way I do business since I read this book.
Fantastic Book
I have read hundred of books on finances and I would rate this book near the top as to its usefulness. I learned more about asset protection from reading this book than I have learned from the hundreds of hours I have spent with CPAs, attorneys and financial advisors over the years.

Pass
Among his estate planning peers, Jay Mitton is one of the least liked and most notorious attorneys because of his heavy marketing of arguably worthless pre-made kits for family limited partnerships. The low quality of these kits, combined with Mitton's less-than-truthful marketing, has generated some scathing comments on the American Bar Association's estate planning bulletin board. The Supreme Court of Florida in fact entered an order prohibiting him from marketing in that state. The guy is a great marketer, to be sure, but his products can be charitably described as substandard and if you buy his book you need to also buy a ton of salt to go with it. ... Read more

Informative... But intellectually useless.
This book is actually a direct translation of a major comparative study by the late shi`i scholar Muhammad Jowwad Maghniyyah.The original work as well as the translation simply list religious rules regarding certain cases and highlights the differences between the Sunni and shi`i scholars. Author fills a big gap in this field of comperative study of Islamic sects and suprizingly it even includes the shia't belief. As the name suggests it is all about how each school of thought consideres the Islamic law, what is their opinion on certain issues. Of course issues that are not disputed is not covered but only those that are different is covered. Author also provides some explanations behind the opinions. It is very good book for person doing comperative study and for more details you can go back to sources, Shafii's book, Muwatta or others.It is a good book for Imam's in this country where they have to answer to questions coming from variety of muslim groups contrary to in the home country it is more uniform, people are generally in same sect. ... GREAT CLEP AND DANTES PREP
I passed both the CLEP BL1 and Dantes BL2 by studying this resource. My scores on both were 71. You should not need any other materials to supplement, but make sure you know the content well. Pleasant Surprise
Who would read a book with this title other than someone who has a running interest in law firm management?Well, anyone with that running knowledge knows that law firms are different from other entities and that they are hard to manage and that they are notorious for being mis-managed.So, what else is new?

Short, sweet, and to the point
After reading this book you can probably be an executor for an estate without hiring an attorney (assuming no legal documents have to be prepared or filed in court). I found this book in the reference section of the Westfield Pubic Library (NJ) along with its companion book: A Family Guide to Wills, Funerals & Probate (ISBN: 081604550X). This book was written for an executor to read, and the companion book concerned much of the same material but for the decedent to read before he or she dies.
A Must-Have Book For The Newly Appointed Executor
I purchased this book months ago to prepare myself for the future when I will have to handle my mother's affairs.To my absolute surprise, I have recently been appointed as administrator of my long lost cousin's estate.Yeap, he died intestate, without a will.
