4-0 out of 5 stars A Black Eye for Wall Street
I found it difficult to put this book down, and I would have given it 5 stars if the ending wasn't so weak. The end left me hanging and was a little confusing with all of the names and trials.
1-0 out of 5 stars Kind of Relieving but sad
I read this book as I'm very familiar with the Brokerage Industry.I must say, while some of this is appalling, and people should never be treated poorly, it's relieving to know that there is a place where men are (were) still men.Men call each other disparaging remarks, call each other names, basically joke around and take it one step further.Unfortunately, women always want in, and it ends up ruining it for everyone. Any fun or solace we had is gone. It's a shame too, because those same women could have fun too and be "One of the guys" though fear of their lawsuits has now caused even the last bastion of men to fall. Why couldn't you just stick with Dr. Phil and leave us alone.Where can we hide from women and still be ourselves? Is there no place to go??Even better, why can't those women just join us, rather than fight us!It would seem the last place men can work and have fun, and at the same time have women having fun with them is the Man Show, or the Howard Stern show. I'm sorry that sounds so sad, but it's our truth.Time's have changed, and while our son's will never know it, it's our own fault for caving to their whims, little by little by little. It's a women's world! ... Read more

As an intellectual divorced father, I have long searched for that one bookthat gave the "view from 60,000" feet of what has changed in theAmerican family, and why family law and social policy is (as schizophrenic)as it is.This is the book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive
This is a comprehensive, compelling collection sure to become a classic in sociology, anthropology, education political science, psychology and law.As diverse and intricate as the lives of women of color are, so are the essays included in this reader. It is truly powerful!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Contribution
Although Global Critical Race Feminism is a rich reference work useful in the creation of scholarship, it is also a must for anyone interested in social justice.Taken together, the thoughtful and reader-friendly essays are context-specific and avoid generalizations, but at the same time show that ethnic and sexual oppression are not merely isolated aberrations but worldwide structural problems that deserve serious attention. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My thoughts
A friend purchased gave this book to me as a congragulatory gift upon my entrance into law school. Drachman's work is well-researched. Her prose is clear and concise, and the work is surprising easy to read. Drachman did a good job of weaving the threads of the stories of woman lawyers through various chapters without losing site of the overall theme. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A Debased Academic Megastar
Permit me then to have a thought: Does Herr Burgess not take his pleasing line as it is? Last month I, too, had published something similar to the piece above, following his so-called movie, only to find he has gathered to propose something completely different. It would appear that his ability then rests on what is left of his credibility as he rips through the surface, so that no male can function. But of course he could not have had any other ideas before going out on duty. And even though he is sleepy, he unfortunately tests the soundness of his own convictions, which fail him utterly here. Rather comically, his technique, such as it is, is much too heavily invested in the root population to enable him to organize his meager collection of articles. But such technique is an inconsistent friend, isn't it? Oh well, I guess it beats being a debased academic megastar, but you can tell from his resulting character that he has long since become "abgefressen" (as Herr Burgess himself might put it). These shattered lives, supposedly engaged by everything except this ruthless technique, are really just another case of the pot calling the kettle back again. Such "technique" can, in fact, be quite deadly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Look at Sociological Change in the Workplace
This book contains invaluable information for women entering the law profession, but it is also recommended for anyone interested in learning more about sociological changes that have (and perhaps more importantly those that haven't) occurred in the workplace. 5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must!

If you are in a leadership capacity in your workplace, read this book and think about how you can best adapt your environment to the changing world. Our subtle daily actions can impact others in a variety of ways and this book points them out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Trial for Gender on Trial:No Hung Jury on this Gem
It is a stunningly thorough and insightful treatment of the topic.English offers us fine read for us non-lawyers who recognize the realities of gender as a part of the modern work place.Little of this is unique to the legal profession, though some of the extremities, arising out of the "live by the billable hour" business model, are perhaps particular to the legal and perhaps the consulting industries. English strikes a balanced tone and searches for realistic answers to the persistent questions of coping with gender in the work place. It all rings very true, including the extremely balanced approach and acknowledgement of the impossibility of eliminating, rather than managing, issues relating to gender in the work place. Her research is exhaustive, balanced and compelling. It is a must read for professionals in all fields, both men and women. ...
