5-0 out of 5 stars superb legal reference for everybody
I picked up Rowland's new book because of it's topic on the history of women's rights, but I bought the book for it's extensive footnotes and excellent documentation. As many other readers have noted, Rowland writes in a language we all can understand and with such enthuasiasm that we all can share for the topic. What few writers talk about is that women's history is NOT and should NOT BE studied as a line of progress until we are all "liberated" by the 21st century. There's still a long way to go and the history of any demographical group has NEVER been more complex than that of women in global cultures. What Rowland writes in this book is not a cozy bed time read, but an empowering, disturbing, amazing, narrative of the twists and turns of the legal battles that have created the status of women in America as we know it today.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Boundaries of Her Body
I decided to read Boundaries of Her Own Body because as a woman of the twenty-first century I felt like it was my obligation to know the history of my own sex. Womens rights are sometimes completely ignored by society and by the world.Reading about my gender and how we liberated from nothing is nothing but remarkable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dry, but informative
I purchased this text for an Indepdendent Study course, figuring I could at least flip through the book and gain a summary idea of the case's depths and legal foundation. Although I prided myself on a good grasp of Roe prior to this point, reading the expansive text gave me a greater understanding and appreciation for the case.5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
This book is a must read for anyone exploring the law surrounding reproductive rights in this country.I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the law, in the legal right to privacy, and who iswilling and eager to learn. It is by far the most enlightening and simplyoutstanding book I have read on the subject.

1-0 out of 5 stars what was he thinking?
what was mr. garrow thinking when he wrote this book?obviously he wasn't thinking about the well being of the country.his book is one sided and uninformed.i think he should do some real research before writing a book. anyways, what can he say about abortion?he's a man!it's certainlysomething he'll never have to deal with. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Unique study with great argument
Dayton's book argues that, in terms of courtroom cases, women in colonial Connecticut fared better under Puritan legal ideas than later when the laws became more like those in England. She takes the reader through five kinds of cases that involved women to show the changes in the law over time. Her style is easy to read, and she uses anecdotes about specific cases to illustrate her points.A very unique study, unlike any that I have encountered in colonial American history. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Much Needed Work
I am retired from the practice of family medicine, and witnessed the remakabe anguish and hardship that unplanned pregnancy constituted for so many women of all ages and stations. Dr. Reagan's work is a much needed one that provides an accurate and scholarly review of the history of abortion in the United States and the ways in which they were obtained before Roe vs. Wade. In an era when the greater majority of the population is too young to remember the bad old days when abortions were illegal, this is particularly important. Further, while some charge that opponents of a women's right to choose are deluded and ignorant religious fanatics, I do not believe this is necessarily true. Given accurate information such as that provided by "When Abortion Was A Crime," most people can and will make reasoned choices. I found this to be particulaly true when a daughter or wife or other family member is involved.
1-0 out of 5 stars reading the religious
Anytime anyone stands up and writes logically about abortion, the people who want to change the laws based on their religious beliefs startslandering both the facts and the character of the writers.
