Super helpful with trial level & appellate briefs
I ordered this book through interlibrary loan at my law school (Wisconsin) to help with both my LRW class's trial level brief and my moot court try-out appellate brief. I ended up just buying it because it is so helpful and well written. It has great ideas about how to structure arguments, spin the question presented and the facts your way, and how to interweave policy throughout a brief.Much prefered to the Linda Edwards text my school made us buy. ... A solid text with one flaw.
I used this book as a text for a legal-drafting course I taught. It is exhaustively researched and well written. Its advice is contemporary and sound. My only problem with it was the approach. Early in the text, you are introduced to "the seven steps of drafting," and you get a thorough run-down on these steps. Then the remaining chapters of the book treat different kinds of drafted documents and explain how the seven steps apply to those documents. But it gets repetitive and tedious after a while.Read more
