Good test prep book
I found this to be is a very good test prep book, and I highly recommend it.

Lame!
I checked out the 1995 edition from my public library in California, only to discover that the book is oriented towards New York State! Nothing on the cover indicates this. Quite a few pages are taken up by boilerplate "how to take a test" crap that I, like most people, had pretty much mastered by eighth grade, and a general-purpose glossary of legal terms.Read more

I hope to set up trusts using this book's sample trusts.
This landmark book from the 1960's is apparently no longer in print. This worries me just a bit since it seems it should be still useful and thus profitable to print. One answer might be that Mr. Dacey's book has caused some of the exorbitant charges and abuses of probate to disappear (out of embarrassment?).One probate issue which has not disappeared, is the lengthy time(months or years)during which probate proceedings control the assets covered by a will -- assets which the book says it clearly enables you yourself to place in a simple trust so your beneficiaries (or heirs) will have instant and clear title to them at your death.It describes large reductions in transaction costs including tax savings, but it does not, in my opinion, show how to pass assets to your heirs tax-free.

How to Avoid Probate!
Norman Dacey was disbared when he discovered what a ... the whole probate system is. His revenge is the contents of this book. It is worth its wieght in gold! Over the past 30 years the Bar Associations have black-balled him and his books. He is an honest and genuine man and this book is his legacy. The bulk of its contents are pre-fabricated meticulously prepared forms that everyone should have BEFORE THEY DIE if they want to be absolutely certain their estates will go to their loved ones tax-free and without attorneys taking most of it.

A Must Have!
Dacey's book is a classic and a must have for those who want to learn about estate planning.As a third year law student interested in estate planning and probate, I would recommend this book for those who want more knowledge about the area and who want to have meaningful questions to askhis or her lawyer. ... David Brock admits he was wrong about Anita Hill
I do not understand why this book is still in print, or at the very least is not published with a huge disclaimer on the front cover.The author himself has admitted in more recent books (_Blinded by the Right_ and others) that he was *lying* when he wrote this book, and that he deliberately spun every piece of information about Anita Hill to discredit her.
This is a smear job trying to pass off as real literature.
This book is clearly partisan without any objectivity whatsoever.All attempts at actual journalistic integrity totally failed.

Anita Hill: Slave Girl for Feminazis
Brock did an excellent job sifting and analyzing how Anita Hill's charges do not add up. This is very well written and Brock approaches the case in a very independent-minded way (his latest self-flagellating recantation notwithstanding). Doubts from both sides are aired. Corroborating (or non-corroborating) testimony is matched. Character witnesses, consistent or inconsistent statements, chronologies are included.

The Consolidationist
While Joseph Story is commonly acknowledged as a constitutional expert, he advanced some very flawed theories on the Constitution, which ran counter to the what the founders put into place, and ran directly against the limited federal government that was essential to the concept of federalism.
Historically Significant, But Contains False Theories of the Constitution
Joseph Story began his political career as a Jeffersonian Democratic-Republican in a New England State dominated by Hamiltonian Federalists. When he was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court by President James Madison, it was under the impression that Mr. Story would serve as a counter-weight to the nationalistic-minded Chief Justice John Marshall. Yet, after his appointment, Justice Story made a conversion to the Hamiltonian Federalist mentality, and became the protege of the Chief Justice. (In fact, he dedicated his Commentaries on the Constitution to Chief Justice Marshall.) While serving on the Supreme Court, Justice Story also served as a law professor at Harvard University, a position in which he was encouraged to produce works espousing the nationalistic point of view (in opposition to the States' Rights school of thought that emphasized the federal nature of our system of government).
Excellent source for those interested in the Constitution

Mandatory Reading
This book should be the required text for all high school and college government classes.It is easy to read and contains information not readily available in most text books on the Constitution.

Comprehensive, Reliable, Essential
I love this book. It taught me about the Constitution and its simple, exalted ideas. If you read this book you will understand America's "charter of freedom" better than you would from taking a college course in political science. (At least, that's what happened to me.)

Easily navigate the antiquated legalese...
This tiny book, though now a little outdated (it was originally published to commemorate the two hundreth anniversary of the 1787 Constitutional Convention), still provides a good introduction to America's "supreme law of the land". A living document, the Constitution has undergone numerous changes and additions since its inception. Someone unfamilar with its complex history will likely scratch their head and wrinkle their nose at the antiquated legalese of the original document. This book alleviates nose wrinkles and scalp chafing by providing brief explanatory notes on the Constitutional text. Ominous terms such as "habeas corpus" and "corruption of blood" get explained for the general reader. Not only that, the book underlines obsolete or overturned sections (e.g., the entire eighteenth amendment, related to prohibition, appears in underline, as do the sections related to slavery - i.e., the infamous "3/5 clause"). The notes and introduction also provide context, history, and the occassional explanatory cartoon (including a great one of Benjamin Franklin in a sedan chair). Assisted by this framework, anyone can understand the basics of the Constitution and its current state.
A great little reference
While not being overly ambitious, this little book explains the meanings of the most important parts of the US Constitution and its amendments and puts them in historical perspective at the same time. You'd be better off reading the constitution online
I'm a real constitution buff and wanted to get a book that was a great reference for the constitution.The book was obviously not it.Basically I paid for a scaled-down version of the Constitution with very very basic interpretations of the amendments and articles.The fourth amendment is explained in three lines.There is no thought put into this book, hince it's only ~60 pages, with about 10-15 pages used for credits and table of contents.If you're looking for a copy of the constitution and only need the basic version, get online and print it off any site.Don't waste your money getting this book. ... A wonderful book. Very detailed but also lucid.
Two apsects strike me in reading about Holmes. First is his life. What a great subject. Holmes is almost as exciting to read about as Lincoln. The second is his jurisprudence. White does a fine job covering both. I likeWhite's style. Somewhat loose but never inaccurate, his biography is veryreadable.Read more
