5-0 out of 5 stars One of the finest Bloodstain texts I have read. OUTSTANDING!
This is one of the finest reference books I have had the pleasure to read.It is easy to understand, no far out explanations.I believe this bookshould be on the shelf of any and all investigators, new or old.The tableof contents was very informative. You are taken from the history of thisdisipline, all the way to case study.Nothing is missed and you can carrythe book by yourself!!Credit was properly given to those that were first, there was no attempt to make one believe the editors were the"first" to discover this disipline.Photos often assisted text. I believe this is necessary for those investigators who do not see this asmuch as others. There was even a glossary !! EXCELLENT WORK !I lookforward to treating my eyes to the next book by James & Eckert

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone interested in Criminal Law and Enforcement
Anyone involved in law enforcement or Crimial Law will cherish this informative, well written text. It takes a very complicated, mind numbing subject and pilots the reader in an organized, comprehensible manner to awell rounded understanding of the subject. This one should be requiredreading for all law students and Criminal Law practitioners. AMasterpiece!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Now that we are this book, here's what I say:
Everything is bad news if it comes with a deadline that isn't met. This book, THE SOLDIER AND THE STATE:THE THEORY AND POLITICS OF CIVIL-MILITARY RELATIONS by Samuel P. Huntington, a young Harvard professor in 1957, when the book first appeared, attempted to establish assumptions that would allow respectable consideration of policies that, in our world, might be used to define who we have become. My differences with this book might be ascribed to a theological framework in which this book is seen as having assumed the existence of hell on earth as the situation which people who voiced political aspirations that did not coincide with the prevailing superpower mentality would have to put up with. The famous Winston Churchill once said something about assumptions up with which he would not put, and the success of this book might be measured by how its views are assumed to be the American views in those parts of the world where America as a superpower is most unpopular.5-0 out of 5 stars The best book ever written on civil-military relations
At the time of its original publication in 1957, Samuel Huntington's The Soldier and the State reflected a new age in American history--the Cold War era.Huntington, a young Harvard professor of government, focused on policy problems concerning civilian direction of the military under the terms of the Cold War.Basically, he contended that traditional American liberalism was outdated and in fact had begun to pose a national security danger.Until this era, the absence of an overt military threat to American security allowed for a policy of civilian control of the military compatible with liberal democratic values.Traditionally, liberal solutions to domestic problems had likewise been applied to military problems, frequently resulting in failure.5-0 out of 5 stars Seminal Treatise on the role of the Military in society
Incisive and remarkably relevant.Huntington delves into the role of the military in shaping and protecting a society.A MUST read for anyone who is in, or deals with the military. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Keep looking
I hate to say it because I've actually had both Prof. Stone and Sunstein as teachers and they are great men, but even with my personal bias for them, this is still a poorly written casebook.I used it for two classes - one that covered Equal Protection and one over the structure of government. The section of the book on Equal Protection isn't too bad.It has some nice historical material, and most people are already somewhat familiar with the cases anyway. However, the section of the book on government structure and the commerce clause is truly attrocious. The cases aren't well edited.Sometimes the result of a case will turn on a statute and the text and even title of that statute will have been edited out.Its hard to tell what is important from the cases consequently. There are long strings of cites in cases and the notes after the cases are cramped with no real headings and hard to make heads or tales of.Half the time you can't tell why you are reading a case - what your supposed to be getting out of it and how it relates to the other cases you've read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst. Casebook. Ever.
I just want to reiterate the other review by saying that this is the WORST. CASEBOOK. EVER.
1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE
I am finishing my second year of law school, so I have read quite a few case books. This is BY FAR the worst.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good material---but Outdated
The title of my review says it all: the text and the study guide were fine at the time they were published in 1996, but this is 2004 and a great deal has changed in California's court system from the vantage of civil procedure. The publisher should have updated this book no later than 2000 when the courts were administratively unified; additionally, local and state rules of procedure have been dramatically altered to place greater emphasis on ADR (alternative dispute resolution) and the rules regarding Fast-track litigation have likewise undergone significant changes.5-0 out of 5 stars Next best thing to the law library
I bought this book in preference over several other self help law books I examined after I fired my lawyer and went in pro per. Lots of really helpful, accessible, thorough, and friendly information. In fact it was sogood that I promised myself I would write its first online review. Youwon't get much help on how to act in court, though, as only attorneys cando that and not paralegals, who it was written for. But don't listen to meI'm not an attorney. My lesson in all of this was to stay out of court inthe first place. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An informative reference guide to the complex laws and regulations concerning neighborly disputes and intricacies
The newly expanded and updated fifth edition of Neighbor Law: Fences, Trees, Boundaries, And Noise by attorney and mediator Cora Jordan is an informed and informative reference guide to the complex laws and regulations concerning neighborly disputes and intricacies. Deftly covering laws concerning such issues as water runoff and flooding, trees that hang over property line, problems with neighboring businesses, noisy neighbors, unclear boundary lines, blocked views, high or unsightly "spite" fences, dangerously deteriorating fences, dangers to children, and so much more, Neighbor Law is a complete and thorough compendium ideal for non-specialist general readers wanting to know (and be able to enforce) their rights as a property owner in a neighborhood of property owners. Neighbor Law is very strongly recommended for anyone searching for a "user friendly" informational documentation of all the rules and regulations concerning proper neighbor responsibilities and an understanding of what can and can not be lawfully done when a conflict arises between neighbors.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Write a Patent Application
This book is intended for beginning and serious patent practitioners as a handbook for patent application draftsmanship. It is contrasted with books such as "Patent It Yourself" by David Pressman in that the latter appears to be directed toward novice pro se applicants.Much information contained in "How to Write a Patent Application," by Jeffrey Sheldon, may be used as study material for the registration examination for patent attorneys and agents (i.e., the patent bar examination).I found it to be an excellent companion to the "Manual of Patent Examining Procedure" (MPEP) which is published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best evidence lecture I have ever heard
I'm writing this review in response to a couple of negative reviews.I'm listening to the lecture right now and it is the best, most understandable lecture on evidence that I have ever heard.Better, in my opinion than the evidence lecture put out by PMBR for the MBE (law graduates will understand those acronyms).Believe me, I had a horrible visiting evidence professor (luckily for others she lasted only two semesters) who couldn't explain hearsay from naysay. It is a great lecture!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Veryfasttalkingprofessorthatyoucannotunderstand
I know what the first guy was talking about. I'm in my last semester and evidence is my last exam. I have always used audio lectures to prepare for exams and the Sum & Substance series has always been good. But this one is horrendous. This is not a professor giving a lecture, this is an auctioneer selling cattle. I never imagined someone could speak so fast. Sometimes his talking becomes just a rapid-fire spurt of syllables and he sounds much like a machine gun. There's no time to take notes or think about what he's saying. Avoid these tapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is GREAT
I don't know what the last guy is talking about-- I bought these tapes because Evidence was my last exam and driving home for Thanksgivings I felt like it would be a good time to spend a little time on it. Because so many people had rec'd these tapes I bought them on my way out of town. I'm not into booktapes, but after it got through the first 10 minutes and picked up a little--- everything fell together! I wouldn't necessarily say listen before you have a grasp on anything. But I think that its a GREAT review for exams!! It made so many things make more sense and clarified a lot of issues. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Manditory reading for anyone interested in Laws and Rights
This is nothing less than an exact translation of the Federalist papers for perople of our generations to read and understand.I found this necessary, as the truth and the history of our country is so clouded by media and revisionism, that it becomes very important to really look and study why our country was set up like it is.I recommend it to everyone. But I especially recommend it to students of law and our country. It is interesting, and well written. It easily is equivalent to a number of college level classes in constitutional law.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great FP Primer
I think this book would make a great high school text for students in American Government classes. I'm sure at college levels the FPs aren't too hard to read in their old English, but the index is great. And the book is a testament to how wise the founding fathers who made the case for our current constitution really were. Many of the things they warned us against are indeed coming true in our democracy today.5-0 out of 5 stars An Aid To Understanding Our Political Heritage
Mary E. Webster has performed an invaluable public service with this book. The Federalist Papers are among the most significant documents of this nation's founding era, yet they go largely unread, primarily because of their legalistic tone and complex sentence structure. As Webster states in her introduction, she has no political or social axe to grind and no agenda to fulfill. She simply wished to make these important documents available to a wider audience, and has succeeded admirably in that goal.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buy something else
I've been doing the E&E books in preparation for law school, and they've all been accessible and comprehensible. This one, however, is the exception. Maybe it's the ethereal nature of the subject, but this book is killing me. I feel like I am wasting my time reading it, since I can't seem to make out the forest, nor the trees, through the fog. If you're just starting out, I can't recommend this book for preparation. Maybe in the future it will make more sense, but for this beginner, it's very confusing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Go for the Chemerinsky Treatise instead
Another reader suggests the Chemerinsky treatise rather than this book. I couldn't agree more. It's true, Con law doesn't lend itself to the E&E format. You are much better off writing a kick-ass outline based on the Chemerinsky book. Be careful though, Erwin Chemerinsky has at least two Con Law books published by Aspen- one is a casebook called "Constitutional Law" (in red cloth binding) and the other is the hornbook called "Constitutional Law: Principles and Policies" in a black paperback. That's the one you want.
5-0 out of 5 stars Con Law Clarified
If you're in law school using the Sullivan and Gunther Con Law casebook, I HIGHLY recommend this study aid! That casebook is huge, intimidating, and not very clear in bringing out the black letter law.Combined with a strict Socratic professor, the law can be very puzzling.Using this E and E, along with Emanuel's outline, makes the entire subject a LOT clearer. If you're planning on going to law school, I recommend checking out the Examples and Explanations books before classes begin, if you have the time and the motivation. They give an overview of the subject that cases help to clarify, and they help clarify the cases that aren't all that clear. In any case, get this book if you're having Con Law trouble with Sullivan. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Reference
Criminal Investigation: The Art and Science is an excellent reference book for overall fundamental investigative techniques and specific criminal investigation techniques for specific crimes. I frequently cite the text in the development of law enforcement courses (basic and in-service. The information in the text is current and accurate, which is typically uncommon, as most other texts on criminal investigation simply update a book's cover and neglect the content. I would highly recommend this book as a comprehensive reference book for new and experienced officers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Investigating: what is it?
Criminal investigation is a very poplular subject these days with all of the CSI's and Law an Orders, but what about the facts, what is real? This book is the textbook for my Principles of Criminal Investigations class, part of my Investigatvie Services major in Criminal Justice. It very acuratly illistrates what criminal investigation is about, it is very much about the factual part of invetigations. Also it is not just about investigating the scene of a crime but its very vividly describes crimes and criminals as well as other aspects of the investigation like the psychology and methods invovled in ivertviewing.
1-0 out of 5 stars Filled with dry, common-sense dribble...
I can't believe I'm taking an entire class to cover this material. Much of it is common sense, and what's not...is on an elementary level. The book is dry, & I've read 9 chapters in just over a week. It's seriously lacking!
