Entertaining & Enlightening
Upon receiving my copies of "Contracts" audio CDs (Douglas J. Whaley), I am surprised at the negative reviews.Having completed two masters degrees, I have plenty of experience with poor instructors, poor textbooks, poor audio lessons; and poor universities.In my opinion, these Contracts CDs are excellent.Professor Whaley provides:(a) a clear speaking voice; (b) excellent inflection to keep the listener's attention; (c) good humor and vocabulary; (d) humorous case examples (e.g., minors as chimpanzees, dog law, paid-in-full checks, etc.); (e) well-organized lectures; and (f) plenty of detail to support further research.While I am not a Law student, these CDs are providing an excellent refresher for my MBA Business Law classes.These CDs are worth the price, and I will be ordering Professor Whaley's CDs on "Sale & Lease of Goods" (as well as the Finz CDs on Torts).

Anyone... anyone... Bueller?
I have two S&S sets, Contracts and Torts.The difference is night and day.The Torts CDs are dare I say it... fun!The Contracts CDs are sooo dry and boring as to make them almost unlistenable.It's almost like listening to someone read from a textbook.I gave it 3 stars because some people might be looking for that type of "just give me the facts" approach.But my preference is for an entertaining listen that makes the CDs fun and memorable.You will NOT find that here.

Excellent supplement to the Hillman/Summers Casebook
This hornbook makes reading the case book very, very easy.It summarizes all of the concepts from their textbook in a simple and concise manner.I highly recommend reading this book and staying afew pages ahead of your assigned text reading.

Excellent prepatory book
I bought this and used it heavily through Contracts, and found it took be a very good supplement to the casebook.It covers the main issues in very good detail, but cannot be trusted as a single source for contract law of course - a short book could not be expected to do that.
Good
Good study aid. He didn't cover some topics iwith the same detail as my professor, but what he does cover is presented in a concise and clear manner. I also enjoyed his perspective on contract law, for example the way he organizes the material and the examples he uses to present the ideas. Overall I'm glad I read this as part of my exam preparation.

Absolutely the best
Fisher provides the absolute, hands-down best text out there for basic crime scene work.This is the one that is in everyone's bookshelf - we even keep all our old editions!When I began working in crime scene investigations, this was my 'go-to' reference, and several years later, I still read through it every once in a while to keep fresh.I teach part time, and this was the book my co-instructor and I suggested that we use for our basic and advanced crime scene classes - thank goodness it's our new text!I can't wait to share Fisher with our students.Invaluable book.

classroom textbook
it is a good book and it helps me keep up in class.I like looking at the pictures.I also like how real crimes are described to give examples.

For Forensics Buffs
This is a great book for ne body interested in knowing more about forensic science, it has a great overview of many different aspects of this varied area and the case studies make for some interesting reading, its set out in away thats easy and clear to understand, I left my copy lying around at home, and was amazed at the how many people picked it up to flick through and then couldn't put it down (including my brother and he hates to read!) Perfect for Commuters
The two hour plus commute I endure every day to get to school has forced me to get ultra-creative in my study methods. Sum and Substance CDs in general have been a godsend. The Civil Procedure set in particular is easy to understand, meticulous,entertaining enough to keep one's interest, and follows right along with the classic two semester first year civil procedure class. Now instead of fuming silently over wasted time, I can anchor my knowledge while I ride.

A must have for any First Year Civil Procedure Student
Don't make the mistake I made and wait until second semester to buy these Arthur Miller cds.Spend the money up front and between these cds (and the Glannon books) you will be set and you'll find it was well worth it right from the get go.The cds got me through all the tough topics and made Civ Pro one of my favorite subjects. Miller trudges through all the big items in an easy, sensible way with very clear hypos, and a sense of humor that totally grows on you.His teachings stood out in my mind so many times during my final and honestly think I would have been in a terrible position without these cds.

Simply the Best!
Prof. Miller is widely acknowledged not only as tops in the field, but as an extremely effective teacher of the subject. Prof. Miller has perfected his teaching of this course over many years, and these recordings provide a condensed version of the course he has taught at Harvard Law School for many years.

Great book!
The class was great and the book was great. Give you real life cases so you understand material. Gives you information on how the US compares to other nations. Also has funny facts and snippits of funny cases. Highly recommend, can learn a lot!

Repetitive and Too Big
This massive back-breaker of a casebook is seriously in need of major editing.The cases were frequently repetitive and exhaustive about minute details.The editor would make a point, the following case would repeat it twice, and then the editor would again repeat it following the case.
Terrible Editing
The whole point of buying casebooks like this is to have handy a collection of the most pertinent points of relevant cases presented in an effective manner that makes sense.That said, Sullivan (who FAILED the CA bar exam) does a horrible job editing, and fails to make a decent casebook.
Why are you reading this review?
More importantly, why am I writing this?If you're considering this book, you'd better be in law school.In that case, you're probably obligated to buy this book for your Con Law class, which begs the question in the title of this review.You're buying it anyway! Stop wasting time on the internet and get back to work (oh, the irony).

Excellent - Best Contracts Supplement Out There
This review is for Emanuel's outline, not Crunch Time (though Crunch Time for Contracts is also excellent). This is the best Contracts supplement out there and probably the best Emanuel's outline as well (rival = Emanuel's on Con Law). VERY thorough (almost like a hornbook in this respect). This is what you need for Contracts. Someone sent me this by accident after I had been using Gilberts for a few months. I thought I didn't want it because I already had Gilberts and some other supplements, so I put it on the backburner for awhile while I used Gilberts. Then I started taking a look at it once every so often when I was still confused after reading Gilberts (and other stuff). I started to realize that this book was much better than Gilberts, so I put Gilberts on the backburner. (Gilberts is good, but this book is much more thorough and just better overall.) One of the most necessary law school supplements.

very solid supplement
I bought this outline and also Gilbert's contracts outline, and this one was better in several important ways.One that sticks out in my mind is UCC provision 2-207, which relates to "battle of the forms," which is one of the most difficult topics to master in Contracts.While the surface-level issues may be apparent to everyone, the more subtle implications are not covered well in Gilbert's or in the official comments in the UCC (despite substantial text).If you don't know 2-207 extremely well going into your final, you should be worried at a minimum.Emanuel's treatment of this and most other topics is quite good, and it is consistently better than Gilbert's for Contracts.

good overview
I like the Emanuel Outline because it spells out the rules for you and what you need to know.I read the cases, then go back and read the section it relates to - its really helpful for class if you get called on, and for preparing an outline.I have tried 2 other types of study guides - I find I like this format the best. ... Could have been better, I think
Well, the fact that I'm writing a review about this book, while it's sitting open on my desk next to my computer, open and not being read, might be some evidence of how I'm enjoying this book. This book just goes on and on in complex an unclear language about a subject which shouldn't be so difficult. This book is not clear or easy to understand at all. Every sentence is awkward and followed by a footnote, and the masses of footnotes together take up half of EACH page (!), making this work look like a research project for a PhD publication. I have the casebook in this series, and sometimes it seems reading the cases alone will bring more clarity. And it turns to be true! This book might be good if you're advanted-contracts and want to know every little detail, or as an advanced reference later on, to look something up like in an encyclopedia. Some concepts, which should be pretty clear just get too in-depth coverage in this book. It's too complex for a first-year student. Sometimes it starts describing the different views out there, and then there's a jumble in your head as to what the law really is. I wish the author used his own knowledge and fluid language more than footnoted ideas from other authors.

Best used as a doorstop.
This book tells you nothing that the U.C.C., Restatement 2nd, and a basic cases and examples book (Farnsworth, for instance) doesn't already tell you.This hornbook, however, is much denser and dryer than these other texts.Surely there must be better study texts out there than this for the first-year Contracts student.

Insightful, biased, brilliant, shrill - Posner!
Richard Posner is perhaps best known for his work on the economic analysis of law (his text by that name is the standard for the discipline). His work on catastrophic risk, which forms the basis for his analysis in _Not a Suicide Pact_, draws heavily on the reasoning used in his work in the area of "law and economics."
Read the book BEFORE you review it
This is a terrific book that all open minded people would find of interest. As is the case so often,reviewers are being allowed to place reviews without ever reading the book, as in the previous reviewers case (Upshur).Posner examines the delicate balance between personal freedom and collective security and the fine line between them that is constantly shifting due to historical circumstance. After reading this book,no matter what position you choose to take, you will have a greater understanding of the issues involved, and you will be able to make a more informed decision.
