4-0 out of 5 stars A fun look at law school
I've read most of the "prepare for law school" books and this was my favorite. It was funny and upbeat and didn't tell you what a huge mistake you'd made in going to law school. It was not as technical as someothers, but offered a lot of opinions from actual law students.

3-0 out of 5 stars helpful and interesting
While I am just getting ready to go to law school at the University of Richmond, this book has calmed some of my fears, but it has also raised a few as well.I plan to use this book as a reference during my first year. I hope that I will be able to provide more positive comments as my firstyear progresses. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Guide
As one of Tamsen's study partners from law school I can attest to the method of study techniques that she's outlined in this book. The Law School Survival Guide is concise, easy to read, andhas great sketches by Professor Mixon; however, most importantly, it is a useful tool. You cannot go wrong following the guidelines in the Law School Survival Guide! It'll make your law school experience productive and fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great study tool!
When I read this book I was sceptical that any one could learn to study using someone else's methods but after reading it I have to admit that I was wrong.I implemented some of Mrs. Valoir's methods and found that I increased my grades substantially.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only outside source I needed!
I am currently in my second semester in law school. This book was the only resource that I used when contacting schools for information and narrowing my choices. It had all of the information that I needed to get in touch with the schools.I was very concerned with the practical lawyering skills at each school and this was the ONLY source that had statistics on lawyering skills for each school. This book was RIGHT ON for the school that I am now attending.

1-0 out of 5 stars lacked accuracy
The admissions standards potrayed in the book are the authors opinion. The book put out by the LSAC has most of the school's actual admission decisions.

3-0 out of 5 stars A fairly interesting guide to most of the law schools in the
country. I'm not sure how often the passages on each schools are updated but I bought the 1999 edition and found it to be a refreshging departure from the usual bland statistics that are quoted in other books. It is niceto hear from students even though I do agree that the authors try to makeevery law school appealing.I also found the admissions section to beannoying because the authors seem to suggest that every law school isdifficult to gain admission too.In conclusion, I certainly wouldn't usethis book as my sole guide to law schools but I think that it is a nicecompliment to the ABA book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Students Reveal
This is the book I've used as a substitute for visiting law schools because--let's get real--not EVERYONE can afford to go on all those trips to different law schools. Being someone who applied to 10+ schools, none of which are located any closer than 6 hours by car and most being much farther than that, it was essential for me to get information from students and to learn more about various points of interest when one is choosing a law school. To be real again, when you speak to current students/alumni or when they contact you out the blue, these people are going to have a biased assessment--you know these are the people who like the school and will be nothing but positive about most, if not all, aspects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Law School Guide!
I bought this book after researching the other ones out there and I'm glad I did. There is so much valuable information that it answered all of my questions about what I wanted to do and how to do it well.I like the true stories in there and the realistic description of law school life.I finished first year and I can honestly say that I couldn't have done as well without the guidance I received from Law School 101.Thanks so much for a great tool.Law school is so stressful that there needs to be tools like this book to help make it easier to survive. This one did it for a lot of students. All of my friends used it and we all did really well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks so much!
I love the way this book guided me through law school this year.My first year was hell and I found this book and made a huge turn around. It was easy reading and enjoyable, but it was also so informative that my second year was much easier to deal with.I have so many tools now to get me through the toughest things, like communicating in class, taking exams, and even just getting through the day to day stress that all of my friends and I have had to live with. I am focusing on criminal law courses and I really love being there now. Law school is nothing like college and we didn't know that until we got there. If I had it to do over again, I would have found this book and read it before I started. It really is the best one out there. Thanks so much to the author for finally telling it like it is!

5-0 out of 5 stars Got by with a little help from my friends!
This book was being carried around by just about everyone I knew this year.Word got around that it was the first real survival guide to law school.I had read some of the other books and they didn't have the same real life struggles and stories that this one does.I felt like it was written about me and because of that, I was able to follow it and learn how to make law school an incredible experience. Thanks to the author for throwing a lifesaver into the sea of muck and mire! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Not The Best Guide
I bought this book because it has a nice layout and seemed to have all of the necessary facts on ABA-approved law schools.Having gone through the application process, I realize that this book falls flat on several levels. To start with, some of the data is incorrect. For example, almost all of the application fees listed are less that they actually are. Also, there is very little context about the schools. For example, what is a school known for?Is it a large, ultra competitive environment, does it pride itself on cooperation and close-knit atmosphere, or somewhere in-between?A prospective student can make assumptions from the data alone, but contextual information rounds out the data.Further, admissions are mostly made on GPA & LSAT scores but there are no grids or numerical breakdowns; there are only median values. My best advice is to go to the LSAC's website and review the online version of the "Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools."This guide offers statistical data, school info, links to law schools, and data filtering tools so you can interactively track infomation relevant to you (e.g., your statistical chance of getting into a school based on your GPA & LSAT).Overall, it has a lot more to offer than the Barron's Guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very detailed
Barron's Guide to Law School has become like my bible.I take it with me everywhere and could look at it for hours on end.I just recently decided that law school is definately for me, and this book has helped tremendously. It contains many details about each school, things you may not even really care about. It also contains a sample LSAT test which is very helpful. The book also lists schools by region and maps them so you know exactly where each school is, and so if you know you want to go to school in a certain region, you can find out what schools are nearby. This book is a must for anyone considering law school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential!
I simply can't imagine trying to navigate the law school selection and application process without this book.It would be a bargain at several times the listed price.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but slightly outdated
This book gives information on how students rate the teaching, community feeling, student body, faculty and more aspects of the different schools. It also gives starting salaries and more helpful information for making a decision. However, since it was published in 2000, its statistics are somewhat outdated. There you get more, and more accurate information. So go to the magazine section or to usnews.com and spend your $ on "The Best Graduate Schools" issue of U.S. News and World Report.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but question the accuracy
I love that the book provides narrative information of schools, but I would not rely soley on this book.I would use it with the LSAD-CD to give me my chance of being admitted and I would even use the USNEWS or the New Educational Quality rank to give me more information. While I agree that it is important to visit a school and talk with students and professors, this book gives a quick impression that can help add schools to a prospective students list.I would not cross a school off my list because it didn't receive a good Princeton Review, though. Also I thought the "Hits and Misses" were kind of silly.

1-0 out of 5 stars A true public disservice
Let's get one thing out of the way.The Princeton Review is a successful company that helps thousands of students every year to score higher on tests like the LSAT.HOWEVER, in seeking to make a quick buck by leveraging its name brand with hastily thrown together, innaccurate andcynical books like this one, the company seriously imperils its own goodname.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mildly useful, but not great
This book is written with the premise in mind that the LSAT isn't beatable (i.e., there aren't tricks that will give the test-taker the keys to unlocking perfect scores every time), but with some time and effort anyone can learn techniques that will allow them to score much better than they would otherwise.
3-0 out of 5 stars Needs updating - but good reading comprehension section
Most of these off-the-shelf 1-inch thick books on LSAT prep are usually very general in nature and marginally helpful.
1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!WHATEVER YOU DO THIS IS THE WORST BOOK TO BUY!!!!!!
This book is a joke and I do not have any idea how these publishers actually got away with releasing it.I am also disappointed with Amazon's lack of quality control.First of all, the inside of the book is merely photocopied, and the ink is splotchy.Secondly, the solutions to the practice questions are transposed with other questions, so that it is very difficult to check your answers since the solutions are printed underneath the wrong questions!!Don't make the same mistake I did...spend the money on Kaplan or Princeton Review because you get what you pay for.Again, don't give Nova any more money and don't buy any of their products!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down the best resource for Law School information
If you're applying to law school (or are thinking about it), and you only get one book to research American Law Schools, get this one--trust me. You get four pages on every ABA approved law school (which are, really, the only schools one should be concerned with--with very few exceptions). Two pages of stats listing nearly all of the valuable information that you want to know, and also lots of information that you should know (but might not realize). Also two pages where the law school writes about itself. This book's information is probably more accurate, complete, and up to date than that in other publications (nearly allof which I've all read). The LSAC gives you the stats (so they are directly from the authority), and the law schools give you their spiel (which may be good and bad). Check it out. NOTE: Make sure you get the most current edition, they print a new one every year.

5-0 out of 5 stars The cover says it all
The cover says it all. This book gives the pertinent facts on all of the ABA approved schools. It also gives a brief summary of law school and the field of law. It does not rank the schools in an arbitrary matter. It gives you the data so you can rank them yourself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, great personality, reasonable advice.
I found myself caught up in this book from cover to cover the night I received it. The author has a sarcastic humor yet a realistic serious approach to giving you the low down on everything that has to do with law schools. See for yourself, there is a chapter for everything from the LSAT (I found that part reallty helpful, the author gives several helpful pointers) to employment considerations, to every law school in the nation! The first half of the book is very practical and is for anyone considering law school, whether the thought crossed your head one time or whether you are applying or planning to go to law school. The second half contains all the 411 on the schools, when to apply, avg GPA/LSAT, ratios, etc. All in all, this book is filled with realistic practical information, and often, things you never realized (like exactly HOW to impress admissions with your personal statement). ...
