5-0 out of 5 stars A quick read that will help 1L's tremendously.
This book is concise yet thorough giving you enough Law and Econ to do well in your first year courses without overwhelming you in minutia. The examples build on each other and Polinsky does a nice job of tying things together at the end of each chapter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction
I noted some time ago, in a review of Thomas Miceli's _Economics of the Law_, that this work is in some ways "orthogonal" to Miceli's. For one thing, Polinsky gives a fuller discussion of the Coase Theorem; for another, Polinsky at least raises the question whether there is some sort of tradeoff between "efficiency" and "equity." (The reader should be warned that neither of these terms means to an economist quite what it means to anyone else; "equity" in particular, as Polinsky himself is careful to explain, does not mean here what it means to a moral philosopher or a legal theorist.)5-0 out of 5 stars Really Well Written and Priced.
I originally bought Polinsky's book for a Law & Economics class in college and I feel this is a very good text on my favorite subject. One of the strongest aspects of this book is the writing is very accessible. Unlike some of his peers, I feel he writes not to impress or to complicate the subject with difficult machinations. Instead, his writing is directed at teaching you the concepts directly and forthrightly. You do not need to bring your economics decoder ring or your Black's Law dictionary to access the concepts or theories. The one weakness, and it isn't to most people, is that I would have loved to seen more visuals in the book. I am a visual learner and economics so easily lends itself to charts and visuals that I would have loved to see a bit more. Yet, I think Polinsky's writing more than makes up for any criticism such as mine. In fact, don't think of as a criticism, but think of it as a suggestion for his next edition. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for potential law students!
Applying to and attending law school in Canada can be a challenging process. Unlike the many books that focus on the experience in the US, this book specifically looks at the Canadian system. 'So, You Want to Be a Lawyer, Eh?' outlines the process and offers tips to improve your results in the application process, at law school and in finding an articling position. I will be attending law school next year and I am confident that this book will help me succeed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book
As a future Canadian law student, I was frustrated with the lack of guide material available to Canadian law students. All of the material I was able to find was aimed toward American students. Since there are some differences between the way the two countries educate their lawyers, it was important to find a book like this that addresses the particular elements of Canadian Law School.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
The book is an absolute must-read for those considering pursuing a career in the law. A number of books address the topic in the U.S. context; however, this is the first book I have encountered that thoroughly addresses: (1) Canadian law school life, (2) tips that will help one land the articling position of their choice; and (3) work as an articling student and junior lawyer in Canada.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Keeper Book
This well-written book helps debunk any assumption that the title "Why Lawsuits Are Good For America"may contain an oxymoron.Mr. Bogus describes a common law system that is very recognizable to those of us who practice law in America today. Jurors take their responsibilities very seriously.Jurors are fully capable of finding facts and applying nuanced statements of the law and crafting reasoned verdicts.Keep this book in your library and refer to it when you hear others fretting about whether jurors can handle emotional or big dollar cases.

1-0 out of 5 stars Depressing
The problem with this book is that it doesn't adress important issues facing our legal system today. If for example Ford motor company manufactures a SUV with a faultly shock system that fails and causes the truck to roll over resulting in serious injury or death, clearly we have an open and shut case where Ford is completely liable and you can certainly bet that Ford is going to make sure that problem never happens again. But that's obvious. Anyone who knows little to nothing about the law understands full well that a company who is found to have a faulty product will increase their standards and work feverishly to fix the product in order to prevent future legal action. Carl T. Bogus has taken simple ideas like those and twisted them around to create a driving force for his political agenda, and baseless political agenda no less.
4-0 out of 5 stars Disciplined Democracy
The author's central argument is that product liability lawsuits are an essential vehicle for enabling citizens to impose societal values on powerful corporations. The market can't do this because the profit motive can encourage corporate behavior that unfairly imposes business's costs on the public. Government regulation is often hamstrung by the pressures powerful competing interests bring to bear on the political process. But, combined with important safeguards built into the judicial process, juries bring diverse life experiences, societal mores, and a gut-level sense of fairness to important issues that impact citizens' lives. The common law enables the community to extract information from hard-to reach places and to provide a democratic check on the powerful. I would say the author made his case. ... Read more

I am in law school now and this book is a waste of money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but outdated
This is a very useful tool in the Law School application process. The 2-4 page descriptions of each school give you some added insight into schools you might be interested in that you can't get anywhere else.1-0 out of 5 stars Inside the Law Schools: A Guide by Students for Students
The information is obviously outdated and in some cases it seems to be incorrect. For instance, in the chapter on the University of Chicago, the book says this school relies on interviews with applicants. To my knowledge, this is not true.Northwestern (also located near Chicago) relies on applicant interviews--not the University of Chicago.I found the chapter on the University of Minnesota amazingly inaccurate. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and (from what I'm told) accurate!
From the perspective of someone who has just decided to start law school and has been reading some pretty dry law school stuff, this book was great ... very refreshing!McClurg obviously loves his chosen career, but is able to see the humor and irony in legal education and the field of law.

1-0 out of 5 stars Skim it for free at the library!
I took this book out from the library, instead of buying it...I would have been really disappointed if I had wasted my money. Right now, I am in the process of applying to law schools and checked out a few books...the ones I plan on buying are "Law School Confidential" and "Planet Law School"...I've also heard really good things about "Law School Insider"."JD Jungle" is so light weight in comparison. There is nothing new or insightful about this book. The legal pop culture references to television, movies & sensational trials- feel more like name dropping than useful information. Erin Brockovich in a law school guide?C'mon! She's never even gone to law school. Who needs to hear about how well Julia Roberts portrayed her in a law school guide?!?I did find the interview of Justice Stevens insightful...but again not enough to justify buying this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Survival Guide sinks
I expected more from JD Jungle.A barebones guide, only sparse and vague advice is given on how to study, how to brief a case, how to outline for exams, and understanding the IRAC procedure. A mere 1.5 pages were devoted to how to ace law school exams, for example. No example cases or practice briefs were provided unlike other law school prep books I have read. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Results!
I first picked this book up when I was a 1L student who had struggled with my first semester grades.I found the techniques and skills in "1000 Days" to be extremely helpful.I have read many law school study technique books, but this is clearly a cut above the rest. The chapters are very clearly written and provide a solid roadmap to improving any student's grades.Tonsing instructs the student on how to attack lawschool study from a variety of angles, the most important technique probably being the writing of hypothetical problems each week. After a semester of practice in writing and spotting issues, dominating the final exam becomes much easier. I stuck to Tonsing's advice and applied it to every course for 3 years of lawschool with dramatic improvements in my grade.I can honestly say that this book gives you the power to excell in any exam, from torts to Administrative law to Secured Transactions, it doesn't matter. A+.

3-0 out of 5 stars Modestly Helpful
Mr. Tonsing's manual is a useful volume for anyone preparing for law school. Not only is it filled with helpful tips on how to brief a case, take notes, and write course summaries, but it also motivates the student to enter law school as a lawyer, not a student.
