5-0 out of 5 stars Great Author, Great Book!!
Having had a chance to meet the talented Mr. Niewoehner during one of his recent autograph session/book reading at my local Jimbo's Bookwormania, I must confess that I was overwhelmed by is wonderous outlook on life and on law school.I found him, much like his book, to be an inspirational journey into legalistics.I, too, would someday love to attend that institution of institutions, Harvard Law School, and I believe that reading Mr. Niewoehner's book twice or perhaps even three times will start me in the right direction. It is, indeed, what I like to call a "must read" for the lawyers of the future!5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Anyone Considering Law School
I thought the book, notably the law school section, was superbly researched and written.A true must-read for anyone considering law school and a legal career.2-0 out of 5 stars Very weak book in comparison to others of the same type.
After he persuades you not to go to law school, he gives very short and common descriptions of what law school is like.I think you would definitely be much better off with another book.A student counselor atany major college or university could have just as easily written thisbook, and quite possibly done a much better job. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Give Grisham a rest
Storming the Court is a real-life account of a band of idealistic law students who take it upon themselves to represent Haitian refugees that are being held in military confinement in Guantánamo Bay.With the aid of a professor (Harold Koh, currently the dean of Yale Law School) and some outside attorneys, these students take on the United States government in a seemingly impossible case. The story switches from the students to the government to the refugees, giving the reader a solid understanding of each side of the case.Goldstein does an excellent job making complex international law comprehendible to the average reader. He paints an extensive picture as he touches on the chaos in Haiti, the conditions within the refugee camp, and the battles within the courts. As a conservative, I felt Goldstein did a great job at telling all sides of the story.I understand the players and their cause was somewhat liberal, but the value of human lives shouldn't be limited to political affiliation. There were people from every side of the spectrum, from radical leftists to corporate bureaucrats (though most were unquestionably lefties).
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Inspirational Book for Any Young Lawyer
I am a 3L about to graduate from law school and this book makes me want to shake off law firm salaries for the sake of making a change in this world. In less grandeous terms, it makes me proud to be a future lawyer.
5-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down!
Not since reading "A Civil Action" have I been as swept into a legal thriller.Brandt Goldstein takes a remarkable story and turns it into a remarkable book. You feel like you are there --with the students at Yale and the refugees at Guantanamo -- and you can't wait to find out what happens next.Superb writing.Engrossing storytelling."Storming the Court" was recently named one of the top ten nonfiction books of the year (Kirkus Reviews).A must-read for lawyers and non-lawyers alike. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good mental workout
I agree with reviewer B. Peet that the problems in the Arco workbook are unlike the LSAT problems and that the best LSAT prep is to simply take as many of the old tests as possible. However, I think that for $9 it is really worth the cash simply for the mental habits it inculcates - habits that are quite useful on many of the logic games. While the Kaplan book provided tests that were more like the LSAT I found that Arco gave me more of the sort of challenge I was looking for in a supplement to taking actual old LSATs. Also, 75% of Kaplan's advice was fluff and commonsense and could have been said in half the words, whereas Arco's advice was succinct and genuinely helpful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unecessary for LSAT prep
I found the example games in this book to be exceedingly difficult and very unlike the games on the real test.I went through a couple of chapters and then put the book aside. For Logic Games practice, the best thing to do is just practice as many real test games as possible. It really works. One hint that really helped me was to use the highlighter that is allowed to construct your sketches for the games, it cuts down on a lot of erasing and re-writing.I found the Kaplan Test-Prep book to be really helpful.I should also add that the hints in this book are helpful, so if you have the money, buy it just for that, but skip the practice games.I started out getting in the mid 150's on practice tests, but by being consistent and practicing day after day I ended up with a 167 on test day. Good luck!

2-0 out of 5 stars Confusing
If you are struggling with the Logic Games section of the LSAT, as I am, you might want to stay away from this book. Perhaps it was designed for someone already scoring fairly well and was looking to add a few more points to their score, because it certainly does not cater to the individual trying to learn the basic techniques in solving logic games. I cannot imagine anyone diagramming in a timely manner using the methodology contained within. The structure of warm up exercises followed by mini-games eventually leading up to practice games should work but doesn't. I never grasped how the warm-ups tied into the overall scheme of the game. The explanations following each section were short, at times awkward, and narrow in scope. The sections and explanations just did not seem to build off of each other. Not a friendly environment for someone trying to learn. However, if you are looking for a source for all of the different types of logic games, this might be for you. It contains an incredible variety of game types. You just need to be fairly efficient with them before you get started on this book. ... Read more

I was a three time repeat bar taker and looking for answers.I never could figure out what I was doing wrong in my essays in order to get better scores.I knew I had a firm grasp on the material but just couldn't get it together. With this book, the bar exam writing process finally made sense!I'm extremely happy I found Mary's system because it helped me to pass on my third try.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
I bought this book from Half.com, then ended up taking the essay course taught by the author, Dr. Mary Gallagher, in NYC.Made all the difference. Her course directly reflected the method that she describes in her book.If essays are your weakness, using her method should make a positive difference.

1-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
This book looked promising but I realized after I started actually working through the games that they were full of mistakes and nothing like real logic games on the LSAT. This is unfortunate since the structure of the book seemed like a good one. This book is not worth the money. I would recommend instead the PowerScore LSAT Logic Games Bible over this one, which uses real LSAT questions as examples.

1-0 out of 5 stars Filled with errors, ZERO customer support
The structure of the book seems promising as the explanation for each logic game gives an initial "set-up" description to guide your approach and then the complete solution.

This book got me through the New York State Teacher Certification Exams. I taught in New Jersey, but the New York State tests are much more challenging. This guide gives you all the information you need to pass. Although a fraction of the test prep material is actually represented on the test, it was a great basis of knowledge that allowed me to answer more in-depth, analytical questions. 2-0 out of 5 stars NOT worth the money
I was asked to read this relatively expensive book before my one-week intro to law class.I am not impressed. It seems very dry and very basic and mostly tells you what you will learn in the first year.Well, I plan to finish my first year so I suppose I will learn everything they want me to know.I have no fear of law school, so maybe I'm biased. There are also several pages dedicated to grammar.Useful enough, but hardly information that is going to allow me to attack law school without fear.Oh, and if you don't have a BASIC understanding of the purpose of the US Constitution (as included in this book, along with advice like being prepared for class), maybe you should reconsider attending law school. Please, please, please, go to a library and look at this book.If you feel you still need it at that point, buy a used copy.It won't be heavily used.3-0 out of 5 stars A little dull
There is interesting and valuable information in this book, but the presentation -- the writing -- is about as dull as you can find.I would recommend it as supplemental material, but not your first read prior to law school.I can recommend "Acing You First Year Of Law School" by S.C. Noyes & H.S. Noyes. It touches on the same material, but the writing is leaner and far more approachable. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars God, where do I begin?
Talk about bad...OK, others have said it, but I'll elaborate. Roughly 10 percent of the answers to the questions and examples in this guide are completely and obviously incorrect. Not in the way of, "Well, if you think about it, this answer is a bit more appropriate," but in the way of, "This is the exact opposite of what they're asking." There are very important words such as "not" or "is" completely removed, and numbers and constraints wholly changed when explanation times come around. Considering this is a thirty dollar book, with less than 100 pages of actual study aid, this is complete and utter b.s.
1-0 out of 5 stars Big waste of time
The previous reviews pretty much sum it up - loads of errors, ambiguous questions and answers, and style very different from actual LSAT material.
1-0 out of 5 stars do not buy
What a joke. There are incorrect answers and errors abundance in the book as well as in the cd exams. Do not buy, waste of time, and you will go besserk trying to figure out why your answer is wrong, until you realize the book is wrong. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars CORRECTION
The author, Willie J. Epps Jr., is of no relation to the previous Dean, as stated in Kevin Meyer's review. The author was a student at Harvard Law who wanted to help students reach their goal of getting into law school by uncovering the mystery of how others did just that. The author's purpose of providing insight into the types of candidates and applications accepted into Harvard Law is invaluable for college students interested in attending law school and the essays provided by accepted students gives those applying a view of what types of essays made the cut. The book is helpful for anyone trying to develop a strong candidacy to any law school -- not just Harvard. While some reviewers find the student comments 'egotistical' , one should be reminded that it is the nature of 'personal' essays. (Yes, one's own pride needs to be in check when reading the applications and essays of these exemplary individuals.)
1-0 out of 5 stars Lame
I picked this book up in a "bricks and mortar" bookstore, and it only took me about two seconds to realize it was totally worthless.Epps's father was a Dean at Harvard College, which, I assume, is how he got the authority to pass such a book off as an expert "How To" guide. As other reviewers have noted, it's little more than a compilation of survey responses from people who have gotten in.

I have purchased several books on law school exams, and this one isthe best. It is organized logically and sequentially and is therefore easy to understand and put to practical use. The information it contains is also very clear and is written in plain, easy to understand english.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book should get you a B
This book offers practical, time-tested advice for performing well on law school exams. I've tutored students on test-taking for years, and this book covers 90% of what it takes to excel on law school exams--clarity of expression, issue spotting, analysis, and organization. But in my experience, those will get you a B or a B+ at best. What you need is that added something, that brilliant insight, that "extra" that gets the professor to say "Wow. This is an A exam."Read more
