Games don't recreate the full feel of real LSAT problems
There are approximately 44 original games in the book.
Wow
This book is amazing! It breaks down the different types of logic games into different sections, gives you the best way to tackle it and then gives you lots of chances to practice. This is a definite buy if you are preparing for the LSAT's.

Good, but too general
I bought this book looking for a detailed method for solving the riddle that are LSAT logic games. Instead, I found a book that can tell me how to identify the types of games, but leaves me without straightforward methods for solving the problems. A better strategy would be to simply do as many of the offical LSAT problems as you can before you take the test.

Not a sleeping pill
Burnhams book on U.S. law and its legal system is great for anyone who wants to learn or study U.S. law. It is comprehensive in that it provides the basics on the most important parts of substantive and procedural law. For foreign law students and jurists in particular it gives a well written and very understandable introduction into U.S. law. Professor Burnham seems to intentionally adress "foreigners" in certain sections explaining the similarities, but also the existing differences between the common law system and the civil law system (as he defines the central European legal system). This makes many topics easier to understand for outsiders. The in depth explanation of the adversary system and its implications for some U.S. particularities is also valuable, as are the guidelines for legal reserch.
Comprehensive!
I have used the Burnham book for five years in my Introduction to American Law class of foreign LL.M students.This is the only book I have found that gives such a comprehensive introduction to American law.It providesan excellent survey.It is at once complete enough to use alone for acourse, and at the same time useful as a foundation for special explorationof specific areas of interest.

I have recommended this book to every one of my colleagues who has taught the American legal system course in our London programe.When I heard of the publication of the second edition, I immediately asked my Westrepresentative to favor me with a desk copy. The task of finding materialssuitable for lawyers pursuing a comparative master's degree at Notre Damebedeviled me for several years.Almost every introductory text on theAmerican legal system seemed to offer a basic understanding of Americanhistory in general and Constitutional history in particular.Books thattreated fundamentals of the adversary system, or that described the legalprofession or the judicial system, often contained little if any expositionof substantive areas of the law.Materials that described substantivelegal areas often anticipated an understanding of the institutional regimethat applied the law.The day Burnham's Introduction to the Law and LegalSystem of the United States crossed my desk was bright indeed.As Iscanned the table of contents, I was struck at how it tracked the syllabusof the course I was preparing to teach.Its coverage of legal institutionswas complete in five chapters.The basics of criminal and civil procedurewere available, and eight additional chapters, each treating a legalsubject area, were offered.Professor Burnham imaginatively arranged thematerial to facilitate coverage via a survey or in much greater depthresponding to the background of the students or the amount of timeavailable for the course.The book has now been used on several occasions. I recommed it to my students
I am a law professor and this is the one book about legal writing I recommend to my students. However, please note that this book is not a textbook.There are better textbooks to teach [and learn] analytical thinking, persuasive writing and legal research.What this book provides is a great quick reference guide to some of the most common problems in writing in general and legal writing in particular.The book is well organized and concise.The material is organized around short rules and for every rule there are good examples of poor writing and suggestions on how to improve it.

Accurate but dry.
Go ahead and use this book as a reference. Skim it once in a while to refresh your memory about correct legal style. But don't sit down and read it straight through, as I did. I found it slow going and dry.

Not just for lawyers
I am a physician who tested out of all college English to focus on science. Writing chart notes, scientific articles, or even parts of textbooks does not prepare one for the type of writing one must do when performing legal work.
Shockingly good
In short, this is the first and only style guide that I have ever been excited to continue reading and share with others.It has really improvedmy writing.

This is an extraordinary book. What is happening in the US Justice System?
This is one of a series of books written by different writers aimed at mentoring a range of groups from young conservatives to golfers. The format is to talk about skills which can be of use for those starting out.
Excellent book. FYI - BEWARE OF Common Sense Rules by EVANS!
I recommend Letters to a Young Lawyer and consult it frequently. Highly recommended.
Packed with Knowledge!
This is an excellent book - well written, cogent and persuasive - the perfect launch of the new Art of Mentoring series. Alan M. Dershowitz, an impassioned and outspoken attorney, is keenly aware of the risks and pitfalls of legal practice. He squarely confronts the fact that lawyers often find themselves having to make moral or ethical choices in ambiguous circumstances in which the lesser of two evils is the only possible choice because there is no clear good - and yet, no clearly lesser evil. The book does not pretend to be objective. It is a compilation of advice, great courtroom war stories, practical tips and philosophical conclusions. Dershowitz is a fighter who chose his side long ago and has no intention of deserting it. Some of his more liberal positions will seem wrong-headed or ill-considered to those who disagree. Well, not ill-considered; he is a thoughtful man who takes lawyering seriously. We recommend this book to you whether or not you intend to study or practice law. Should Be Required Reading for First Year
Professor Huhn has written a road map to the framing of legal arguments that makes the mysterious enterprise of legal analysis comprehensible in a way that is very useful both for exams and for writing and research assignments. I am confident that this book will retain its utility right on through bar prep and beyond. It has already helped me in writing a brief on a difficult case in my summer job.
Concise and Useful
I was a student in Professor Huhn's Constitutional Law class in 2002 and used this book to answer essay questions on his final examinations.He is a tremendously talented professor who provides the historical backdrop behind many of the cases covered in class.This book does a great job presenting the methods he uses in his classroom to motivate indepedent argument.It is a great book to have whether you are a law student, a lawyer, or neither.

Not just for law students
This is an easy-to-read exploration of just what motivates our courts.The author provides a compelling view of what factors courts consider when they issue the decisions that affect our lives.He places his discussion in the context of some of the most influential court cases, which makes this a lively and stimulating read.Read more

Gift for Newly Admitted Attorneys
"The Successful Lawyer: Powerful Strategies for Transforming Your Practice" is a powerful tool to help young attorneys explore ways of growing their practice. Gerry Riskin uses short, practical examples taken from every-day practice to help attorneys focus on situations they certainly will be faced with at some point in their careers.
A practical resource: Be sure and take notes!
Legal consultant Gerald Riskin does a remarkable job of forcing practicing attorneys to look at their practice objectively, particularly from a client's point of view. He suggests early on that readers mark up the margins or keep a journal - good advice! I kept a list of pointers as I read to prioritize later. The author notes astutely that no lawyer is likely to do a full practice makeover, but anyone can read this book and come away with 3-4 things they can do immediately, at little or no expense, to improve their practice. By incorporating Riskin's suggestions, in manageable chunks of 3-4 at a time, any lawyer can expand their practice and (best of all) make their practice more satisfying. It is hard to imagine any attorney coming away from this very readable book without 20 or more ideas of things they want to change in their practice.

Well Endorsed and well deserved!
This book was heavily hyped by Tom Peters in one of his blogs, and as most of you probably know, Tom Peters don't promote no garbage!

This is a great introduction to commercial paper!
I have to disagree with the last reviewer. This book was thorough, and handled commercial paper in a simply and easy to understand way. I didn't take commercial paper in law school, and was completely unfamiliar with the lay of the land. This book was an excellent starting point and covered all the basics necessary to do well on the bar exam. If you are like the last reviewer, and already have a solid enough grasp on the subject matter to be able to nitpick discrepancies between different versions of the UCC, then this might not be a good book for you. But if you are simply looking for a solid introduction to the subject, I highly recommend this book. Considering how lost I was in commercial paper, it was a godsend!

This Book Sucks
Don't bother buying this book if your professor teaches the 2004 version of the UCC.I spent hours trying to figure out why one of the chapters was so off base with regard to Accomodation Parties; then I realized the book was dealing with the pre-2002 version of the Code.Brook barely acknowledges the 2004 changes except to note that there are, in fact, changes.Gee, thanks. ... Fundamentals of Legal Research is one of those gems of books on subjects that can be rather technical. It is clear and basic enough to be of real use to the novice, and comprehensive enough to serve as a good review foreven the veteran legal researcher.The book describes sources of the law,case reporters, digests, and legal encyclopedias and provides the readerwith the basics steps for doing legal research, along with tips on doingresearch in the areas of English law, federal taxes, international law,etc. It also provides aids on computer-assisted research, legal citations,Shephard's, and other services.It is well-written and easy to understandbut does not talk down (or "up") to the reader.Read more
