The IBC more than just another building code
The IBC is the long-time-coming consolidation of the three major building codes in the US and there is nothing "international" about it.Back in the 70's the 3 code organizations formed BOCA and put out a 1 & 2 family dwelling code. The 3 members them gradually made changes to the individual building codes that brought them into similar formats, then they combined them into one code in 2000, the IBC, and modified the dwelling code to be the IRC (Int. Residential Code)and changed the organization's name to the ICC, the Int. Code Council. There little to review about the content since it is either the law in your area or it is not.For comparisons to previous codes and other information try the ICC's website http://www.iccsafe.org/

A Strucural Engineer's Necessity
It is pretty difficult to review a specification that you must have.

Better learn this code.Local codes are being swept away by one standard.Here is Colorado each town had its own test, amendments and licensing system.California is the only state, having revamped its code 2 years ago, to keep its system.Read more

Globalization and need to know International Law
This book is essentially important for every business person dealing in international arena and every student seeking careers in multinational businesses. The author covers almost all aspects of governing laws related to international trade. I'm not employed by a tax lawyer
This would probably be a great book for a law student, but not for a lay person. I consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but I had a bit of difficulty wading through this to find the little bit of info that I needed.I'm sure it's also a great book for someone with a tax background.

Reader-Friendly Casebook
This is a very good casebook on the law of war.The readings are up-to-date, the notes are astute, and the mix of law, history and policy is illuminating. Professor O'Connell presents all sides of the many controversies that roil this field, reprinting, for example, two contrasting legal opinions on NATO's bombing of a TV station in Serbia.She even includes representative near-gibberish such as the State Department Legal Advisor's attempt to justify the Panama invasion as an act of self-defense -- which may have been included to warn students about the ethical/intellectual perils of public service.(I work for the State Department.)Perhaps best of all, the length of the book is manageable -- law students weary of 1,000-page casebooks filled with small print will appreciate O'Connell's reader-friendly (and readable) approach. Overall, it's a neat book.Even non-lawyers and non-law students will get a lot out of it.

A Tour d'Horizon of the UN's Successes and Failures
In 1945, in San Francisco, when the UN Charter was written, the victors of the Second World War were looking to create an international body that would guarantee global security and prevent another conflagration like the one they had just experienced.The lines from the Tennyson poem "Locksley Hall:" "Till the war-drum throbbed no longer, and the battle flags were furl'd / In the Parliament of Man, Federation of the World" were carried by President Truman in his back pocket when he gave his famous address calling for a United Nations.
Balanced assessment of the UN
There is not much new in this book for those who follow the UN, but it is a balanced assessment. His reform recommendations err on the conservative side, although he does show how the US Congress imposes limits on the organization and then blames it for not doing more. The book is intended for a general readership rather than scholars or those with an in-depth knowledge of the UN.

Moving forward, looking back
Analyzing almost sixty years of United Nations history is, to say the least, an ambitious undertaking. Kennedy has tackled the challenge admirably producing a substantive and very readable account of the "evolution of the many UNs since 1945".His previous participation in the review and reform process of the UN system adds to his qualifications.This study is an excellent entry for anybody interested in learning more about this unique institution, its origins, growth and progress into one of the most complex international organizations.

Excellent and Practical
We used this textbook in our MBA level Business Law course. This book is an excellent resource for understanding business law from a corporate finance angle. The book is well organized and very useful as reference to any corporate manager or executive. I highly recommend it.

This book is the best complete statement of the second wave of internet scholarship.If you ever thought that the net destroyed the significance of geography, or that cyberspace should be thought of as a real place, you owe it to yourself to see how things are really turning out.

a must-read for people interested in Internet law
This book lucidly debunks the notion that the Internet inherently possesses territorial independence or extra-legality, mostly by clearly laying out various ways that governments can (and do) enact enforceable restrictions upon Internet content and behavior. Recommended.

Why the bordered Internet is necessary
"Who Controls the Internet?" by Jack Goldsmith and Tim Wu offers a clear-eyed assessment of the struggle to control the Internet.
