5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, I got to patent pending in 24hrs
This book is very well written and shows you exactly how to write your patent step by step. I followed the instructions, wrote my patent, asked an intelligent friend to review it and filed it according to the instructions. A fews weeks later I was awarded my patent pending. Now I've got to see if I can make some money from my product within the year to afford to file a full patent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Provisional Patent Applications
I'm a budding inventor who wanted to protection for a children's toy I invented recently. Using this book, I filed a patent application in about 15 hours.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and easy, but your clock starts ticking.
This is a wonderful introduction to PPA's. They can be an efficient method of establishing a evidentiary date of invention. The danger is if you let your year lapse (and 12 months in the process goes very quickly) without filing an application you've disclosed your idea to the public and it is not protected.

5-0 out of 5 stars First rate
This is an outstanding reference for the researcher and patent attorney alike. The book provides a solid overview of patent law in the major markets, with emphasison pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechhnology patents. What distinguishes this book from others in its class, however, is the emphasis on practical and strategic aspects of patent filing and enforcement. The author has a lifetime's worth of experience in this field, and it shows. Moreover, the book isuncommonly well-written, with clarity and occassional humor.Highly recommmended!

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding publication
This is quite simply the best general work on patent law and practice I've ever read. Presented in clear, crisp language and with wit and flair, it is essential reading for anyone in the patent and allied professions and I would suggest mandatory reading for any students. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for artists
This is an excellent resource to define and explain legal issues in the arts. It is a little dry in some parts but far easier to read than books written for the legal profession. I have been using this book as a textbook for a college class at an art school for graphic design students for several years.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Guide
Even if you have the luxury of an attorney that speicalizes in art contracts, as I do, this is a great book of forms to keep handy for quick reference. My advice is to get it with his other book: Business & Legal Forms for Fine Artists also by Tad Crawford

5-0 out of 5 stars An older book full of useful content
As an information consultant to industry and the government during the 1980's, it wasn't until 1998 when James White noticed an ad in the Lansing, Michigan newspaper about an inventors club. He visited it a few times and decided to join. His outspoken advice led to a club presentation, and it was after the meeting he decided it was time to put this valuable information down in book form. 'The presentation was declared a success. But it was quickly determined that the speech, which just outlined the principles for determining marketability and getting to the market, had almost no apparent effect on the counter productive behaviors of most of the club members. In the middle of this book you will find a quote from Doug Tackens, president of a household manufacturing firm with over 50 years of invention experience, which defines marketing as follows:
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This book convinced me that the idea I had wasn't profitably marketable. It's very blunt and to-the-point.He has a lot of tips and things to think about.I'm glad I went through the book before I wasted time and money. On to the next idea....

3-0 out of 5 stars There should be clear descriptions when people decide to sell brochure wear
The advice seems to come from a real desire to share wisdom. However, the ideas can hardly seem impartial and objective with the degree of self-promotion the author indulges the reader in this short handbook. The author or editor of the book's description should try to clarify this position in the description. With the wealth of experience Mr. White has in this area, this book could have been written very professionally, as opposed to professionally promotional. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A good attempt at explaining a difficult topic
As noted below, DRM consists of legal, technical and business issues and anyone trying to provide an overview of all three has their work cut out for them. Particularly in the early chapters of the book, these authors give it a good try.2-0 out of 5 stars Still waiting for DRM to be explained.
The problem with the several texts available on digital copyright or Digital Rights Management is that the topic demands a treatment from at least three different perspectives: namely legal, technical and business. There are several books that try to tackle the topic of digital copyright from a legal viewpoint, and this one is clearly coming from a technical perspective. Legal issues are covered, but rather superficially. More surprisingly the crucial business issues and models that are driving interest in DRM are barely mentioned and there is no dicussion of the business models that are working and those that are not. Disappointingly many of the technical issues are also fudged in a way that will leave non-technical audiences confused, and those who are following technical developments frustrated. The fact is that, technically at least, DRM is an area whereapproaches, technologies and standards are all in rapid development and the industry has failed to converge on any single direction. This book's effort to offer a comprehensive reviewof available products means that it risked redundancy before it was published, as many of the companies and technologies have ceased to be relevant. What the world still needs is a book on DRM that reviews the law, discusses the business models (and consumer needs) that are driving developments, and describes fundamental approaches in a way that will remain relevant whatever product Microsoft may impose on us all next year. Unfortunately this bookintrigues enough to encourage one to want to know more about DRM, but never really provides the answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good market overview
This book combines a business strategist's view of the DRM space with a sound explanation of the underlying technology, and also explains how both have evolved over the past decade. It's rare to find both views in any book, particularly one about an emerging software market. Usually, insights into markets like this book provides require purchasing research reports and speaking one-on-one to industry insiders. So, save yourself $10,000 and three weeks of work ... buy the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great IP text book
I got the first edition of this book because it was the required text for a course I took in UC Berkeley a number of years ago.I have been practicing IP law for about 10 years and I still use it as a quick reference (I also obtained the 2nd Edition). In my opinion this is a very well done book and an useful tool for someone who wants to have the overall picture of a complex issue.

4-0 out of 5 stars Primer, No Less
A waste of paper is rather harsh. Yes, this book is not for the paralegal, but I found that it was a great primer for those that may be interested in some of the operation of law -- exactly who I am. I have no real desire to be a paralegal or more, nor do I want to study law in school, but this book is great in that I am presented with basic information in readable form, with no background in law. I give this four stars because it seems to advertise highly technical information, when it really isn't.

1-0 out of 5 stars 200+ pages of useless copyright info.
A useless text for the real world.Patent paralegals are in demand and this book does not help prepare them.Copyright prosecution for paralegals is limited to finding the proper form that the client can fill-in themselves. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Complex But Wonderful Nonetheless
The book is written in a very complex style -- especially the sections where Lessig goes into the nitty gritty of the architecture behind the Internet -- but the book is a wonderful read, especially for those who come from the mindset that copyright laws should serve to give full control to the creator. While Lessig's style is unnecessarily complex, the book is ultimately worth the effort -- especially for Internet enthusiasts and entrepreneurs who need to understand the implications of copyright laws and how they affect culture and future ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important book for IP lawyers and internet architects
This is the best of Lessig's books that I've read so far.Lessig is one of the more articulate spokespersons for the movement to protect the public domain, which includes such groups as the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Creative Commons, etc., although he may be more moderate in his views than some.1-0 out of 5 stars From whence comes invention?
Ultimately, the flaw in Lessig's books is his belief that the revolution of personal computing and the internet are the products of intellectuals like himself.Undermining the freedom and property rights of the programmers and companies who really invented these marvels is a profound threat to one of America's most vital and creative industries. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have Reference for Anyone Unclear about Copyright Issues
This is an excellent, time-saving reference that explains the process of "getting permission" in plain language and demystifies most of the myths and assumptions surrounding copyright issues. The author goes beyond giving general advice on how to get permission by providing step by step instructions and easy-to-use forms. This book should be read before starting your creative work...it'll inform you of what's legal and what isn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference!
There is a lot of information in this book, lots to read and it is very in depth on the subject of copyrighted materials. What is very convenient is that the book includes a CD which has all of the forms that you will need to seek permission for various copyrighted materials. There are few books out there that will answer so many topics related to this subject in the detail that it does. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye opening; everyone should read this book
Professor Litman tackles the dense and often counterintuitive basis of copyright law and delivers an easy to understand explanation of what copyright law is, what it attempts to accomplish, why it was deemed necessary, and how it came to be that copyright owners (e.g., the RIAA) are suing your teenage sons and daughters.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Difficult Read - But Good Information
I found this to be a maddening book to read. The author is a lawyer, and this is apparent from the writing style. I don't know why law schools teach their students to write in such a meandering and confusing manner. However, lawyers should consider that the general population, even the educated portion is not trained (or really interested) in reading this peculiar writing style. Jessica Litman states that she thinks US copyright law has been gerrymandered to the point where it is virtually unintelligible, but then proceeds to do the same thing to her book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Recent History of Copyright Law
This is a good book if you want a detailed history of how copyright law evolved to accomodate digital technology and the Internet. That is the focus of Litman's work. Her writing is engaging and straightforward, and she has good reasons for being pessimistic and disappointed with the current Copyright Act. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Copywriting For Insomiacs Would Have Been A Better Title
This is one of the most boring books I have ever read. A real waste.I do not beleive that Mr. Gabay has handeled the subject sucesfully.Frankly anything I have learnt on copwriting was through reading the "Copywriters Handbook" by Robert Bly.While Mr. Bly can identify was able to identify successful copwriting campaign by various organisations Mr Gabay could only resort to a fictious company calledscotsdalenorth...i guess because he was not able to identify and discuss sucessful copywriting ad campaigns.
4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and informative...
