This book was amazing. I could not put it down. The interesting and comprehensible writing was magnificently crafted and very thought-provoking, a real page turner.

This is a comprehensive introduction to all sorts of telecommunications (mainly telephone regulation) issues.It's probably a bit much for the novice; something like Stuart Benjamin's Telecommunications Law and Policy is probably a better match there.But, if you want all the details, this is definitely the place to go. ... Many wrong statements about the patent law
The book is full of errors and mistakes. The author apparently knows very little about the U.S. patent law. Many assertions of the book are simply wrong. If you want to learn something about patents, this is not the bookfor you. For example, the author boldly and wrongly declares that the U.S.patent grants 20 years of exclusive use.The author is completely unawareone of the most important terms in intepreting patent claims:"comprising" which means "including but not limited to"in patent law. As a consequence, the author mistakenly, but convincingly,explains in detail why a claim 2 is broader than a claim 1 when in fact theclaim 1 is broader than the claim 2. Because the book is well written andeasy to read (with interesting statistics and stories, etc.), it is evenmore dangerous for readers because it constantly declares wrong laws. Areader may be taught some patent myth instead of useful information. Theauthor should have had someone with at least some patent law experience toreview it and correct the misstatements before it was released to thepublic.

Practical explanations about how the law applies to software
I liked this book because of its practitioner focus. It really explains the law and how it does (and doesn't!) apply to software. Kenneth Nichols also does a good job of "putting things in a universe," helpingthe reader to understand how the application of patent and copyright law tosoftware has become so muddled. Every software developer should read this
Kenneth Nichols is both a computer scientist and a lawyer. This gives hima fantastic grounding from which to write about software patents. Read more

Fourth Estate Discussion at its Best
Although I have recently switched to another textbook for my Media Law class, I greatly enjoyed using as a class text Carter's First Amendment and the Fourth Estate.The text lent itself to excellent discussions in class and readily provided excellent case studies and reading material for the students.(Currently I use two texts for such diversity).My only concern is that, at an undergraduate level, the book is unclear on direction for the student not versed in legal and analytical thinking, and like all comphrehensive and advanced texts, a bit too overwhelming academically for freshmen and sophomores.I would highly recommend the text, however, for graduate studies in media law. ... Why an agency with combined powers to legislate, execute, and judge its own rules are bound to poor results
As the Federal Government has expanded its powers and interference in the private economy (for good or ill depending on your point of view), it became clear that not everything Congress was trying to do could be handled in the political process and still get done.So, they created agencies, commissions, and whatever office they felt like creating in order to do the work they did not have the political courage or efficiency to handle.
