Bly has great experience and helpful hints
Learning to write content for an effective website is crucial for any business or organization.Not only does Bly recommend good writing practices, he also describes the best way to design and market your website.This book is a credible source and a helpful resource for anyone pursuing web content development.
Weak, Lacking Depth and Dated material
I've read many books in this segment and I would strongly recommend reading Hot Text: Web Writing that Works or Networds. Robert Bly is a "print guy" that thought it would be interesting to write a book on electronic copy.I would say that the first half of the book is written by supposed experts in on-line marketing.The book is crowded with all sorts of references to other people's work. This leads to a very choppy style of reading in my opinion.The author uses case studies from work that he has already completed but rarely does the content match the electronic world.For a book that is written in 2003, the data is incredibly dated. The author is comfortable with using data from 1996 in a book that talks about the ever changing environment of On-Line marketing.Most of the data regarding internet statistics was incredibly dated. The author talksabout the principals of good copy writing but rarely goes into any depth with regards to examples of the principals.I found the writing to be lazy to say the least.Clearly this author is capitalizing on the interest of electronic copy.Take out the experts that know about on-line marketing, you're left with an incredibly weak book.Although there are is a lot of expert reference, rarely do the experts go into any depth with regards to their arguments or points.Ifthis book is the only book that you are exposed to within this segment; you might be left thinking that you read an average book. When you compare the book to other books in the same segment, it simply doesn't compare.Not a good book.

Worth Buying
Thank goodness I didn't take the advice of "A reader" who only gave this book one star ("not very useful, July 30, 2003").
Picture friendly but informative
The book has a lightweight appearance but there is good advice on negociating contracts based on years of selling inventions and what to look out for - this is where I think the book really wins.It explains contracts and how to get the best one.Later in the book, there is more rudimentary descriptions of the different types of design types and loads of links to both government agencies and independent advice bureaus.It also explains the history of Patents which I found informative and dots humorous and common-garden inventions used today.For such a legalistic thing to attempt to do, I think the book did a good job of making it reasonably clear.

It's okay.
I am happy for the author for his successes, but... he knew people that could help him get his foot in the door. He really has no knowledge of how to help you get YOUR foot in the door, other than general comments on what he would do if he had not known anyone. I am slightly unhappy with the book because the reason I bought it was to get my ideas developed into tangible products. This book will tell you valuable info on what the terms are and helpful info on making a decision about how to proceed, but not enough info about getting to the decision makers of a company. You will be more knowlegable if you buy this book, but you still have a ton of research ahead of you, as the author doesn't help you by providing names and address of key personnel that can help you get your idea or invention shown. a masquerade of accountability
This book is sponsored by the American Council for Cultural Policy and is an excellent illustration that this organization is completely devoid of ethics. The various articles in the volume detail how the 'innocent' art and antiquities dealer and collector could and should be protected by U.S. law, all the while defaming the rights and plight of Native Americans, victims of Nazi appropriations, and countries suffering from massive art market-driven looting, to name only a few. Property laws figure heavily in these debates, but naturally the question of how stolen or looted art and antiquities become the 'property' of collectors and dealers is answered in such ways as to show the dealers and collectors as the true victims of both the thefts and the judicial systems. Although the book is claimed as a balanced discussion of the many complex issues surrounding the ownership of cultural property, it is clearly in the corner of the wealthy dealers and collectors (and their lawyers). ... An Absolute Must Read for Inventors
If you have a patented or a patentable invention and have decided not to manufacture or market it yourself, but wish to license a company to do so, this book is for you. In fact, it is a must read. The book covers not only the licensing of inventions but the licensing of trade secrets and copyrights.
Great guide to the licensing process
This book is very educational about how to go about the licensing process. It's very easy reading, not the technical boring style. The included software is a major plus! You can customize the included licensing contracts. Like Your Own Licensing Attorney in a Book!
With this one creative work, Attorney Richard Stim has given the inventor lightening power [like the art on the cover shows] in understanding what it takes to license an invention.It's easy to grasp because it's written in layman's terms. He has graphs on the licensing process, with forms in the back of the book as well sample agreements. He's given the inventor the tools and formats for licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, option agreements, contract work, agency letters, etc. And, all these agreements are also on a disk which is included with the book.He's outdone himself. I can't say enough about what Richard has put into this excellent licensing course for the inventor. I believe that it not only helps the independent novice inventor, but is also a good reference for those who consider themselves experts. a realistic overview of the business
Being a game inventor for over 25 years, I felt like I was reading my biography as I read this book.It is totally honest about the chances of selling a game to a game company (I don't do toys).However, it is also valid as it relates the stories of inventors regarding the satisfaction and passion the we derive from the creative process.It is well written and enjoyable to read.

Good title
Running and taking care of the band's business could be a tough and demanding job! If you need help in managing your financials, contracts and especially legal stuff you may choose this book but music business isn't limited here! Apparently that is the aspect most of the people are focused on but that doesn't make a great record and great publicity and you need those before even thinking about managing your business. Patent Medicine
Begining with unsupported assertions about the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and overblown conclusions about the consequences of changes in funding for the Patent and Trademark Office, the authors offer cures for diseases they do not understand.
Eloquent
This book presents a clear, concise and convincing argument that subtle changes in U.S. laws starting in 1982 have broken a patent system that was working reasonably well until then. It will be more effective at convincing the average person than most other attempts have been, both because of its style and because it shows that the changes which broke the system shouldn't have been expected to help anyone other than patent lawyers. Their analysis will be useful in helping to avoid the takeover of other agencies by special interests.

Some good contributors, but way overpriced
This volume is disappointingly lightweight. Notwithstanding the comment of another reviewer who allegedly spent several evenings reading it, one can easily read it in 2 hours or even much less. The pages have relatively few lines of text, and those lines are widely-spaced. Almost 30% of the book (55.5 pages out of 190, other than intro and index) is filler, comprising biographies repelete with photos of the chapter authors in their Formula 1 racecars, running in a triathlon, rubbing their dog's belly, etc., and lots of information about their hobbies, or else pages that are completely blank but for brief epigrams by the likes of Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain and Herman Melville.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it extremely useful. It's an engaging compilation of 11 chapters written by 11 Intellectual Property experts, all of which are focused on how innovation brings shareholder value. By reading this book, a person is able to quickly understand the Intellectual Property playing field as it is today, and to identify many of the main actors and their differing viewpoints. Whether a person is an inventor, attorney, CFO or just interested in today's Intellectual Property environment, I think this book is a must-read. It is current, informative and well-written. Bruce Berman does an excellent job of giving the reader concise and valuable information.

Collection of Possibilities
Most of the business world focuses on the competition that occurs between products already on the market.A whole other world of competition takes place in the background involving intellectual property that a select few in business understand well.Bruce Berman has collected essays from an exemplary set of people who do understand intellectual property and have the track records to prove it.The book covers a lot of ground, which is the only issue this reader had with the material.Each of the individuals featured here could probably write his own book.The collection of possibilities to explore from an informed standpoint, however, is excellent; and in a field that is emerging from traditional ways of handling intellectual property, it pays to hear ideas from a number of voices. ...
