5-0 out of 5 stars More Than a Great Book--It's a Public Service
This is more than a great book--it's a public service. The 5-0 out of 5 stars The bible of independent film producer
If you are or want to become an independent film producer, this book will give you all of the business/legal knowledge of filmmaking you need.Even though I have not finished the book yet, I've already found this book to be extremely valuable.Because I am planning to produce a new film next year, I even called up Mr. Tulchin directly for legal advice. He was very friendly and took the time to give me great advices and was very knowledgeable in not just U.S. based entertainment law but also international entertainment law as well.Read this book and you will find it worth more than what you paid for!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The 'business' of 'show business' explained
One thing that isn't taught that much at film schools is how many contracts are generated and how much time you spend negotiating deals. Our first film is still in post-production (April 2003) and we already have a filing cabinet filled with contracts and paperwork. I wish this book had been available when we started production. The chapter on delivery requirements alone is worth every penny. In it you'll find out what a distributor will want along with your film.Don't forget the still photographer on the set and behind the scenes!Great and easy read, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars First rate
This is an outstanding reference for the researcher and patent attorney alike. The book provides a solid overview of patent law in the major markets, with emphasison pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechhnology patents. What distinguishes this book from others in its class, however, is the emphasis on practical and strategic aspects of patent filing and enforcement. The author has a lifetime's worth of experience in this field, and it shows. Moreover, the book isuncommonly well-written, with clarity and occassional humor.Highly recommmended!

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding publication
This is quite simply the best general work on patent law and practice I've ever read. Presented in clear, crisp language and with wit and flair, it is essential reading for anyone in the patent and allied professions and I would suggest mandatory reading for any students. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for artists
This is an excellent resource to define and explain legal issues in the arts. It is a little dry in some parts but far easier to read than books written for the legal profession. I have been using this book as a textbook for a college class at an art school for graphic design students for several years.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Guide
Even if you have the luxury of an attorney that speicalizes in art contracts, as I do, this is a great book of forms to keep handy for quick reference. My advice is to get it with his other book: Business & Legal Forms for Fine Artists also by Tad Crawford

5-0 out of 5 stars If not this book, what else?

5-0 out of 5 stars Action-oriented, thoughtful, careful, & effective lawman & victims advocate.
Joe Arpaio has secured his place in law enforcement history as an innovator & a worthy public servant. August Vollmer, Sir Robert Peel, & Clarence Kelley now have a new member to their club. All cops & politicians should read & learn from Sheriff Arpaio's book & so should all business managers & executives. Sheriff Arpaio exemplifies unorthodox simplicity in the pursuit of public safety & budget effectiveness. It's no wonder that the liberals hate him!

5-0 out of 5 stars Take it easy on the criminals.....
and you will end up without a civilized society, which is basically what we have now. I am a criminal trial attorney with 25 years experience and 15,000 cases. Atty Robbins, who writes a review also, seems upset that criminals are being treated like criminals. What a novel idea the sheriff has !!!Obviously, the problem is that a lot of folks do not like to see criminals actually punished. And therein lies our problem. The problem is not with criminals as much as it is our unbelievable tolerance for them. The book is a great read for anyone who wishes to see criminal offenders pay for their crimes. People like Atty Robbins are outraged at the treatment the sheriff metes out to the offenders but is strangely and disturbingly silent about their victims.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a man!
We need more men like Mr. Arpaio.Today the government seems to go out of its way to define and protect "prisoner's rights," while lacking any hesitation to trample over the rights of us law-abiding citizens.Arpaio dispenses justice much like a dispassioned referee does at a football game - if you commit the offense, you recieve a penalty, and your sob stories don't buy you so much as a pillow mint.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Economics of regulation and antitrust
This work provides an excellent overview of the field of regulation from an economic point of view. The primary focus is economic rather than institutional -- as a result it is more appropriate for economists than forlegal scholars.Although the book does not require extensive training ineconomics, it does assume some formal knowledge of basic economic concepts. Since its focus is economic, little time is spent discussing legal casessurrounding many of the regulations compared with, for example, Law,Business, and Society, by McAdams, et. al. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, Unique & Valuable
As a lawyer, AUTM member, business professor and technology entrepreneur, I highly recommend this as one of the best books you'll find on the practical aspects of commercializing technology. The book contains a wealth of tips, models and business strategies that other books on technology transfer don't cover. (Just a few of the tools presented such as the Marioni Matrix and TRIZ are well worth the price of the book.) Especially valuable are the tools and tips for evaluating potential market applications, end users, channels, revenue potential and launch tactics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Innovator's guide to the galaxy of commercialization
Phyllis Speser's The Art and Science of Technology Transfer is a must read for innovators and managers of technology. There are several uncomfortable hurtles for entrepreneurs along the path to commercialization. This book pulls the curtain back with a style that is both educational as well as down right funny. My only regret is that I didnt have access to this book before I embarked on my effort to launch my technology. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An older book full of useful content
As an information consultant to industry and the government during the 1980's, it wasn't until 1998 when James White noticed an ad in the Lansing, Michigan newspaper about an inventors club. He visited it a few times and decided to join. His outspoken advice led to a club presentation, and it was after the meeting he decided it was time to put this valuable information down in book form. 'The presentation was declared a success. But it was quickly determined that the speech, which just outlined the principles for determining marketability and getting to the market, had almost no apparent effect on the counter productive behaviors of most of the club members. In the middle of this book you will find a quote from Doug Tackens, president of a household manufacturing firm with over 50 years of invention experience, which defines marketing as follows:
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This book convinced me that the idea I had wasn't profitably marketable. It's very blunt and to-the-point.He has a lot of tips and things to think about.I'm glad I went through the book before I wasted time and money. On to the next idea....

3-0 out of 5 stars There should be clear descriptions when people decide to sell brochure wear
The advice seems to come from a real desire to share wisdom. However, the ideas can hardly seem impartial and objective with the degree of self-promotion the author indulges the reader in this short handbook. The author or editor of the book's description should try to clarify this position in the description. With the wealth of experience Mr. White has in this area, this book could have been written very professionally, as opposed to professionally promotional. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A good attempt at explaining a difficult topic
As noted below, DRM consists of legal, technical and business issues and anyone trying to provide an overview of all three has their work cut out for them. Particularly in the early chapters of the book, these authors give it a good try.2-0 out of 5 stars Still waiting for DRM to be explained.
The problem with the several texts available on digital copyright or Digital Rights Management is that the topic demands a treatment from at least three different perspectives: namely legal, technical and business. There are several books that try to tackle the topic of digital copyright from a legal viewpoint, and this one is clearly coming from a technical perspective. Legal issues are covered, but rather superficially. More surprisingly the crucial business issues and models that are driving interest in DRM are barely mentioned and there is no dicussion of the business models that are working and those that are not. Disappointingly many of the technical issues are also fudged in a way that will leave non-technical audiences confused, and those who are following technical developments frustrated. The fact is that, technically at least, DRM is an area whereapproaches, technologies and standards are all in rapid development and the industry has failed to converge on any single direction. This book's effort to offer a comprehensive reviewof available products means that it risked redundancy before it was published, as many of the companies and technologies have ceased to be relevant. What the world still needs is a book on DRM that reviews the law, discusses the business models (and consumer needs) that are driving developments, and describes fundamental approaches in a way that will remain relevant whatever product Microsoft may impose on us all next year. Unfortunately this bookintrigues enough to encourage one to want to know more about DRM, but never really provides the answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good market overview
This book combines a business strategist's view of the DRM space with a sound explanation of the underlying technology, and also explains how both have evolved over the past decade. It's rare to find both views in any book, particularly one about an emerging software market.
