5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good for a promotional book
This book is currently being used for the Lt's promotional exam in Houston, Texas. As promotional books, it is pretty useful. The text covers all of the topics that a supervisor/ manager should know (Management Styles/Leadership Theory/Communications, etc..)without going into too much depth as some texts do.There is enough material to make it challenging, but what is important to me is that after the test is over, there still is worth to this book. They list resources, ideas, and plans that can be converted to your departments use.If your studying, good luck.If you just want to pick up some ideas on the latest in police management theory, this is still a good book to study!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy
The book has no color at all, everything is in black and white; also the case files found in the book are briefed and are poor reflections from the orginal public documents.I had to buy this book for a college class, it was cheaper here than in the school book store but I feel the book is only worth $20.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Law, Business, and Society
McAdams, et. al. provide an interesting mix of economics, law, business, and ethics in this textbook aimed at upper level undergraduates. This interdiscplinary approach is especially appropriate for business courseswhich should examine these issues from multiple perspectives. My onlyreservation is that perhaps too much emphasis is placed on the legaldimension within the text. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Deep content, but terrible style
First, I should note that The Wealth Of Networks is terribly edited. Given that Benkler thanked his editor for his Herculean work at the beginning of the book, I can only imagine the state it started in; as it is, it ended with glaring grammatical errors, including using "effect" when he meant "affect" and "wave" when he meant "waive". (I'll provide specific examples sometime tomorrow.) Editing, apparently, is a craft that is only noticed in its absence. I didn't realize this until I read The Wealth of Networks. By the time I was done with the book, I was copyediting every page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Web 2.0 rationale
I have worked with some of the new web 2.0 products and felt unease at explaining how they fiteed into the 'selfish' model that we associate with economics. Benkler explains this without sounding hippyish or Marxist. A good read. ... Read more

MISSING INFORMATION IN THE BOOK ABOUT SHOTGUN WOUNDS, AUTOPSY PROCEDURE,BLOOD SPOTS ETC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference
If your idea of forensics is CSI on television, this book is not for you.If you are studying forensic science, or need an excellent reference book, by all means - buy it.This book gives one a strong foundation, and the photographs are an excellent source of information, of which to look at after reading the descriptions.
4-0 out of 5 stars ??No gunshots??
This seems to be pretty good, comprehensive, and easy-to-read text on forensic pathology... but there is *nothing* at all on gunshot wounds... not even basic guidelines on entrance and exit identification. You have to buy his separate text on gunshot wounds to get anything on the subject. This book is cheaper than Spitz and Fisher, but when you find that there is nothing on gunshots, the price advantage is lost. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive and Too Big
This massive back-breaker of a casebook is seriously in need of major editing. The cases were frequently repetitive and exhaustive about minute details. The editor would make a point, the following case would repeat it twice, and then the editor would again repeat it following the case.
2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Editing
The whole point of buying casebooks like this is to have handy a collection of the most pertinent points of relevant cases presented in an effective manner that makes sense. That said, Sullivan (who FAILED the CA bar exam) does a horrible job editing, and fails to make a decent casebook.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why are you reading this review?
More importantly, why am I writing this?If you're considering this book, you'd better be in law school. In that case, you're probably obligated to buy this book for your Con Law class, which begs the question in the title of this review. You're buying it anyway! Stop wasting time on the internet and get back to work (oh, the irony).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of business law
I realize that many of you buying this book won't have a choice about it--it's probably required for a class you are taking and don't much care how good or bad the book it because you need it regardless. However, for those of you who do have a choice:5-0 out of 5 stars Current, Thorough, and User-Friendly

5-0 out of 5 stars I Actually Took the Author's Class!! Awesome Book. Easy Read.
I actually took Professor Cheeseman's BUAD 403 Legal Environment class at the University of Southern California! He's the funniest and most interesting professor I've ever had. Read the Haiku at the beginning of the book. It's bizarre until you know his past; then it's hailarious. Cheeseman is a brilliant man. After serving in the Army during Vietnam, he's earned 6 degrees!

5-0 out of 5 stars How-to reference
Filing a patent application comprises essentially three parts; writing the disclosure and drawings, drafting the claims, and filing the required work and fees with the Patent Office (which includes dealing with the office actions, if any). This book focuses exclusively on the second of these three parts, writing the claims. The claims are the legal heart of the patent, since they will define exactly what is, and what is not, covered by the patent; the application will be rejected if the claims are too broad, or not supported, or fail to be specific in pointing out the invention; on the other hand, the patent will be useless if the claims are insufficiently inclusive, and a product can bypass the detailed claimed invention. This book covers the details of exactly how to write a good patent claim, that will satisfy the requirements of the U.S. Patent office, describe the invention clearly and distinctly point out the novel features, and cover the invention sufficiently to stand up in court. It is the classic how-to reference for the practicing patent agent or lawyer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, I think
Well, the fact that I'm writing a review about this book, while it's sitting open on my desk next to my computer, open and not being read, might be some evidence of how I'm enjoying this book. This book just goes on and on in complex an unclear language about a subject which shouldn't be so difficult. This book is not clear or easy to understand at all. Every sentence is awkward and followed by a footnote, and the masses of footnotes together take up half of EACH page (!), making this work look like a research project for a PhD publication. I have the casebook in this series, and sometimes it seems reading the cases alone will bring more clarity. And it turns to be true! This book might be good if you're advanted-contracts and want to know every little detail, or as an advanced reference later on, to look something up like in an encyclopedia. Some concepts, which should be pretty clear just get too in-depth coverage in this book. It's too complex for a first-year student. Sometimes it starts describing the different views out there, and then there's a jumble in your head as to what the law really is. I wish the author used his own knowledge and fluid language more than footnoted ideas from other authors.

1-0 out of 5 stars Best used as a doorstop.
This book tells you nothing that the U.C.C., Restatement 2nd, and a basic cases and examples book (Farnsworth, for instance) doesn't already tell you. This hornbook, however, is much denser and dryer than these other texts.Surely there must be better study texts out there than this for the first-year Contracts student.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best Hornbook I Own
And I own far too many, especially for someone who actually spends time writing Amazon reviews.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible!!
This book is just plain bad.Writer has very hard time getting anything across clearly..way to wordy for the simple messages that he is trying to get across.Avoid if at all possible unless you like to sleep!! or if you have to read it for a test...even then not worth it!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Long winded.
The only reason anyone would read this book is because it was listed as required reading for a promotional exam. Mr Whisenand is out of his mind and should limit his writing to something he has firsthand experience in. Read this book only if you are having insomnia.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tiresome, windy, unrealistic, list happy
This guy is out of his mind.A very frustrating read which makes U.S Army technical manuals seem fascinating.Mr. Whisenand is an obvious scholar, but I fear his "book of lists" does not translate all that well to actual human beings. In addition, I found the section on "community oriented policing" especially overblown. He fails to consider the prosecutorial implications of stating that "long and detailed reports are turnoffs to many people" (page 331, paragraph 1), they're turnoffs to defense attornies too!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother Earth to the Expert Witness
I'm farily judicious relative to giving a product 5 stars when providing reviews however, HOW TO EXCEL DURING DEPOSITIONS (HTEDD), is incredibly deserving. While this is certainly a niche book and one very few in the Amazon world will read, for those few who are professionals, whether in the litigation consulting arena or not, this text provides an over-the-top treatise on the right and wrong ways of providing testimony under deposition. Further, regardless desire, chances are that many professionals will be called upon to give a deposition at some point in their professional careers given the litigous society in which we live. HTEDD is a small investment that will pay off in spades.5-0 out of 5 stars How to Excel During Depositions
This book touts itself to be an excellent resource, and it is. It is a follow up to a previous legal resource book entitled How to Excel During Cross-Examination. The authors discuss numerous subjects that are germaneto expert witnesses. Subjects included in this book range from answeringquestions correctly to how to set your fee schedule. In addition toproviding helpful information on the aspects of the expert witnessprofession, the authors have included a deposition checklist, 150 examplesof questions and answers from depositions, and select Federal Rules ofCivil Procedure. It is a must for the beginner as well as the establishedexpert witness. ... Read more
