Review of Law in Medicine
Pozgar's book is organized by legal topic and cites relevant case law in all instances.It is an excellent overview of American law as it applies to the health care practitioner or organization.He has taken a topic thatit difficult to communicate and made it very enjoyable reading.Studentswill find it much easier reading than most graduate level texts.

Must read, for Nurse Practitioners & students
Great book which provides definitions and state-by-state breakdowns of important concepts, such as collaboration, prescriptive authority and SCAs.

2nd edition
I found Carolyn Buppert's second edition of Business Practice and Legal Guide to be very helpful. The additional chapters are useful for my practice and for research on a state wide level. I would recommend this book to nurse practitioners and students of the profession. It is proving to be a valuable resource for improving NP practice in Alabama. Be sure to get the second edition (2003/2004)as the first was published in 1995.

Information is outdated
As a grad student interested in starting my own practice upon graduation, I found this book to be useless. It has been reprinted by another publishing company and its original copyright date is 1999. Between then and now - 2004 - a lot of things have changed.Therefore, I would recommend that anyone who requires current information should look elsewhere.This is a very expensive book as is not helpful at all!!! ... Mother Earth to the Expert Witness
I'm farily judicious relative to giving a product 5 stars when providing reviews however, HOW TO EXCEL DURING DEPOSITIONS (HTEDD), is incredibly deserving. While this is certainly a niche book and one very few in the Amazon world will read, for those few who are professionals, whether in the litigation consulting arena or not, this text provides an over-the-top treatise on the right and wrong ways of providing testimony under deposition. Further, regardless desire, chances are that many professionals will be called upon to give a deposition at some point in their professional careers given the litigous society in which we live. Real Answers to your LNC marketing questions
All the accolades that have been written about the Joos' book are true! This little jewel of a book is one I know I will keep referring back to in the years to come. Detecting Lies & Deceipt
I found this book to the most informative and useful reference of all those I have read regarding the subject and techniques relating to detecting deception by means of statement analysis in it's various forms. Easy to read. Easy to understand. It will remain a guide to forensic investigators, polygraphists and the like for many years to come.

Excellent survey of psychological literature on deception
This is an extraordinary book, a well-written and clear survey of the psychological literature on deception written by one of the leaders in the field.Extremely thorough, and although sophisticated enough for professionals it is nevertheless useful for students and non-psychologists.As a lawyer and academic who writes on psychology and the law, I found it enormously helpful in preparing an article on the admissibility of expert testimony on lie-detection techniques.Having written on the subject before, and being more adept at legal rather than psychological research, I was thrilled to find such a clear and thorough collection of sources and commentary on the myriad social science research on lie-detection, and have already used the book's index to locate and look up numerous studies with which I was previously unfamiliar.

useful book on current healthcare economics

Tort Reform Ignored
While I found Dr Cutler's analysis penetrating, I was disappointed that he did not discuss in any detail the large impact on medical costs of medical malpractice lawsuits. Not only do these lawsuits increase malpractice insurance premiums of physicians and health insurance premiums of patients, they lead to wasteful defensive medicine, as physicians do unnecessary tests and procedures in order to reduce the risk of malpractice suits. Tort reform is essential to control rising medical costs.

Forty million Americans lack health care insurance and costs leap three and four times the inflation rate yet few Americans feel the system provides adequate care.Harvard economics professor and health-care expert Dr. David M. The committee approach
This is a book which, despite being written by a committee and showing it, has a definite point of view.It is somewhat superficial, but contains a fairly good review of the literature on medical error and some definiteideas about what to do.This is the book for policy wonks who areinterested both in health care and in government intervention.Thoselooking for more in-depth treatment of the subject would do well toconsider Human Error in Medicine, edited by Marilyn Sue Bogner.

Helpful - but out of date
I had this text book overnighted to me due to the fact that my campus bookstore didn't have it in stock.I paid the shipping then found out later that the book had been updated and my classmates were all using the fourth edition.The editions are rather similar and the book is still helpful.There are enough "real time" examples as well as charts & graphs to make this a necessary text for Health Politics.The appendix section is also noteworthy. ... A Better Book By Far
This is a better book by far than the unfortunately better known INTERNAL BLEEDING.It is certainly more honest.It has the clear advantage of being written by people who know and understand the subject ,and unlike Internal Bleeding, it does not suffer the disadvantage of having been written by physicians who, purposfully or otherwise, seem very intent in obscuring the responsibility for medical mistakes.
Truth be told
This book is a well researched, well written must read for all Americans. The authors share their personal story as well as the stories of others who have suffered at the hands of a careless physician. While the stories will break your heart, they may also save your life, or the life of someone you love. While none of us want to believe that those we trust with our bodies and our lives would neglect a sacred trust, the fact is it is happening all too often.This book delivers the message without hype, fear or hysteria.Read it, share it and take it with you.

First do no harm
If even one person dies, that is one too many. But it is not just one, not even 10 or 100 patients who are maimed and dying from health care mistakes.
