A million Little Fact-Checking Issues
Thus is a controversial book for two reasons: 1)the subject is inherently controversial; 2) the author admits to using the book to influence parties to her own ongoing struggle with her family and the law. Family Court handling of abuse accusations is indeed an important topic. Yet, like another contentious treatment of the topic, the documentary, Breaking the Silence, the authors undermine their own position through overbearing tendentiousness. In reality,measured, thoroughly argued, discussions are the ones that can bolster a position; not the sort of sloppy logic and wild-shot rhetoric employed here.

As the previous reviewer stated, I too have not read this book.....yet. I wish to comment to the 'unknown' reader that did not read this book. I did indeed do as they suggested and followed a google search and found the statement allegedly written by her daughter Sherry.
Dubious
I confess I have not read this book but have read statements by the daughter, Sherry, who Amy Neustein claims was abused by her father. Sherry has stated that the alleged abuse never occurred and that this book is a pack of lies about her and her father. A Google search to find out more might be worthwhile before you consider buying this book. ... Read more

Thought-provoking and interesting
Mr. Regan draws on an impressive knowledge of law and the subtleties of human relationships in this book. I found it scholarly, but more or less accessible, as well as organized and thorough. At times approaching thephilosophical, Mr. Regan's work left me more knowledgeable about hissubject, but also more aware of my own place in a relationship and insociety. This is not just a book for law students.

The Best of the Best!
Elizabeth Leonard scored big with this book.The book approached the subject in an appropriate manner and will leave readers in anticipation for change.The narratives from actual California inmates really grabs your attention and makes you feel as if you want to reach out and touch these women.It has been long overdue for someone to bring the truth to light about spousal abuse and really make the public aware.That person was Elizabeth Leonard and she does it with perfection.

Sure to bring invaluable perspective regarding "domestic violence" to every reader. Impressively thorough in introduction to the topic, giving readers a solid framework to process the real-life stories of women inmates. I highly recommend this book as a must have to any sociological library.

excellent non-fiction book

behind the headlines
Groner's book is a painstakingly detailed, but highly readable account of the history of the custody dispute which riveted America in the late eighties and early nineties.The principals were a successful DC area plastic surgeon--Elizabeth Morgan--and an almost equally successful dental surgeon--Eric Foretich.Almost as important as the principals in the case were the army of lawyers and experts each enlisted to support their cause.Read more

I am the author of this book and I hope that by giving everyone in an abusive situation a voice we can stop this growing problem in our society. I felt it was really important to help these people, this is not just their problem...this is societies problem. Please, let's all hear their voices.
Finally!!
Finally a book that covers all of the victims! It made me cry and really feel for these people. The children's stories really affected me, I hadno idea things could get that bad for the children. I also had my eyes opened to the fact that men are abused quite ofetn. Keep writing M. Webb! You are doing a wonderful thing for many people. Can't wait for the next book.

Easy to read
Easy to read, short some forms that are required, and doesn't answers enough question, so be ready to consult an attorney.It was handy to have though, and worth the costs.It pointed me in the right direction, and saved me thousands.

Not only for women!
I just finished this book and was simply amazed at how much I learned from such an interesting and easy to read book. Ms. Barrett was able to take complex issues and make them actually "fun" to read by the way she brought in real life stories as examples. This is a book that men and women should read because it raises one's awareness as to steps that each of us need to take to protect ourselves. I just bought a batch of the books so that i could give my family and friends a copy as I think everyone should read it! It is a gift that you can, and should, give to those you care about.
