Straight-forward Information

This is a great book!
This is one of four how-to adoption books my husband and I bought in our plan to start an adoption. It was BY FAR the best. It was clearly written and laid out the information just as I would have done. The amount of detail was increadible, as no other books came close. We loved the step-by-step approach, and the insightful tips the author gave on finding a qualified agency or attorney, and how to eliminate the ones to avoid. He bluntly says what others seem to hesitate to do. He is an adoption attorney himself, and his tips are great. What a let Down
As soon as I read this book, I wished I was the type of customer who sent back books of little value.We have just began the process of adoption and we are exploring the different avenues available in domestic adoption so I thought this book would be helpful, but instead I found the same information I was able to obtain in less than one day at the computer, by entering "Adoption" in my search engine. The chapter containing the laws of every state was concise and puts it all in one easy package but I am not sure if that is enough to make this worthwhile. The book also lacked any real material on the homestudy process, what you might excpect from agencies versus attorneys versus state agencies, and the pros and cons of each.So if you are completely new to the process of adoption, want the facts and nothing but the facts, are pretty sure that you want to use an attorney and conduct your own search for a prospective birth mother, then this book is for you.If not you might want to look elsewhere ... powerful and important, but simplistic and one-sided
First, let me say that this book does something very important: it tells the stories of a great many women who were victims of horrible violence and whose repeated attempts to get help from the police and courts were met with ignorance, denial, and even derision.Many of these women died because police, judges, and juries "blamed the victim."Jones is passionate about exposing the institutionalized sexism that destroys women's lives, and she does a good job.
An Excellent Learning Tool
Battering and how to stop it is an excellent source for anyone who desires to better understand the psychological trauma of the victim and the difficult situations that arise in trying to leave. The reader will understand the victim more thoroughly in some critically analyzed situations. Including The Steinberg Murder Case. This book is well-researched and thoroughly explained. High Impact!
In the course of this book, one learns the value placed on shelters as well as on battered women--which unfortunately is about nil.With violence increasing in society generally and domestic violence cases being reported more often, this book is a necessary supplement to those in criminology, domestic violence fields (e.g., counselor, social worker, etc.), and the sociology fields.Ann Jones writes prolifically in this book, and she should be commended for bringing out the sad reality of domestic violence and the supposed assistance they are really supposed to receive. ... Great book not only for paralegals!
Ehrlich's book is a great overview of legal issues in the Family Law Sector. It provides a brief history at the beginning of each chapter and then provides legal analysis of the issue and also some social debates. The topics in the book include Same-sex marriage, divorce, child custody, spousal support, child support, domestic violence, and the divorce process. This book provides a succinct and easy to understand explanation of family law issues.
