5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book if you and your spouse agree on everything
This book helped me tremendously. It is an excellent resource, especially if you and your spouse can come to agreement on everything - you don't need an attorney if you can agree.I read the book, copied the forms out of the book and filed them with the court, typed up an agreement that both of us signed and everything went smoothly. You really can have a "do it yourself" divorce for the cost of the court filing fee.Highly recommended book.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book was great!
I found this book at the library, it was soooo helpful! i would recommend it to any one with a divorce issue!i just copied the stuff at a copy machine and filled it in! I only had to pay $65.00 to have it filed and everything!,very good book!enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars How to File for Divorce in Georgia, 4th ed
Excellent book...There is no telling how much money that it saved me, well into the thousands, because when my now ex-wife and i could not agree on one or two small things and I had to get an attorny, after all.All i did was give my lawyer the Papers that the book helped me write and he basically copied them for the Divorce. He asked me if I had had any leagel training. (NO)Then I showed him the book, and he made the commit under his breath "We hate those things"He then asked to review it and asked for the number were he could get it.The next week, I was in his office to sign some papers and he had a brand new copy of it laying on the corner of his desk. Thanks alot for the help Amazon.com ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great look at children and custody
I read this book in a developmental psychology course and it really made me think about divorce and custody issues. Maccoby presents some compelling points regarding children's decisions, the tendency to award custody tomothers, the more recent popularity of joint custody and arrangements madeby the parents themselves. It will give you a good background on thehistory of custody decisions as well as what has happened more recently. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful And Complete
Just today in CT the lead story in the newspaper is of a divorce of a couple that was being handled in the adversarial legal system filled with lies and out-of-control anger that erupted into a shooting taking the lives of both parties to the divorce. I say enough is enough. Too many lives have been destroyed buy the adversarial legal system that pits husband against wife and makes the lawyers vast amounts of money. It is obvious to me and should be obvious to any thinking person that divorce of marriage does not belong in an adversarial system. It certainly belongs to be in a system of binding mediation with the purpose of protecting the lives of both parties, but not at the expense of the other.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Divorce Mediation Answer Book is a terrific book!
It anticipates any and every question a prospective client or referral source may have about the Divorce Mediation process, andprovides thoughtful and complete answers to each one.

4-0 out of 5 stars 3rd Edition Vast Improvement
I recently bought the 3rd edition by Diana Brodman Summers. It is a clear, well-organized description of Illinois Divorce Law that includes sample forms for Cook and DuPage counties. The author warns that the law is changing all the time so you need to obtain the most current versions from the office of your Circuit Court.Appendix A lists contact information for all 22 circuit courts and the counties each court serves. Included are web site addresses for the Clerks of Cook and DuPage County.I was able to download the most recent versions as PDF files from the DuPage County Clerks web site. There is no superfluous discussion in the 3rd edition about how to re-enter the dating scene.Even if you ultimately decide to hire an attorney, I think the 3rd edition will educate you well about what your rights are and what you are paying the attorney to do.The author acknowledges the emotional pain of a divorce and advises seeking professional counseling for that, but she sticks to the law.She paints a sympathetic picture of the daily emotional drain on divorce lawyers who hear the horrible things spouses do to each other.I only gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't used the book to file my own divorce. After I've gone through the experience with this book to help me, I might write another review.

1-0 out of 5 stars Contact Your County's Court Clerk Before Buying This Book
For any couple seeking a divorce, especially an uncontested divorce, it is important to know that there is an alternative to retaining a high-cost attorney. It can be, in many cases, quite simple to file for divorce onyour own. Yet there is little information available on exactly how one goesabout doing this. Unfortunately, this how-to book does a relatively poorjob of filling this gap.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I got my money!!!...
YES!!! I collected $11,225 in back child support thanks to Simone Spence's awesome book. 1-0 out of 5 stars Another child support expert
Spence is yet another self-described expert on child support collections taking advantage of human difficulty and ignorance. The vast majority of child support that is not paid, is not paid because the person ordered to pay doesn't have the money to pay, which results in a low probability of collections -- if he's not already paying. The fact that 80 percent of payments are normally made without problem never surfaces in this sort of book, which finds its roots as just another unfounded attack on men. Outside the very very low percent of actual "deadbeats" (those who can but won't no matter what), there is a much greater percent of those who can't but don't -- and a very easy prescription for getting greater financial support; stop blocking visitation, stop ripping the guy off, call off the war, grow up, and allow him to be involved in his children's lives the way he wants to. Then you won't ever have to waste money on a book like this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Know before you go...
Divorce law is a maze of state-specific laws, fraught with pitfalls such as custody rights, property division, residency requirements and a lot more. If you are considering divorce, or if you are being divorced, you need a guide. For one thing, a good guidebook could help you choose your goals in the divorce outcome and for another, with this book in hand, you can review what your lawyer tells you and ask intelligent questions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Empowering, Comprehensive and Informative
FACT: Over 2.3 million Americans divorce each year.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Resource on Law and Negotiation
If you have never been divorced before, you probably have some pretty unrealistic expectations of what the process is all about. Many people believe that a judge is going to favor them at the expense of their spouse in ever single aspect because their spouse has been such a trial.Because of that belief, many people pursue divorces in ways that are harmful to their emotional and financial well-being while creating unnecessary hurt for their children.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Info still worthwhile...
As stated above, if you go to the pro se website or to any clerk's office, there is a packet of forms available for handling your own divorce. Many legal aid-type offices also run clinics, if they don't provide representation outright, to assist with the forms and procedures.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book if you live in New York City
My wife and I agree on this one: the book is useless for an "Uncontested Divorce" thanks to incomplete instructions, an incomplete form, wrong instructions and wrong forms. One example: the author says you have to attach a certain form to every other form you submit. If you do that, the County Clerk's Office will tell you that you need to fill out just one copy of that specific form and check on it all the forms you submit. You would not be able to do so on the form in the book because it's the wrong form. And so on. For those in the city: save your money, go directly to the County Clerk at 60 Centre Street and ask for a free package of forms and instructions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Child Custody 101
This is really a terrific book that asks (and answers) a rather surprising but fundamental question in the child custody wars: Should you REALLY seek custody? Most people, I would venture to guess, when thinking about a potential custody dispute would automatically answer yes.But Dr. Kerman, whose considerable and obvious experience and knowledge in both the legal and psychological aspects of the question (she is both a lawyer and a psychologist), goes a little further in this very valuable book and guides the reader to think twice and then to think twice again before answering this extremely important question.5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific guide with a wealth of info., practical and legal
A terrific guide with a wealth of information, both practical and legal, for any parent contemplating one of the most important decisions that will be made in their lifetime.5-0 out of 5 stars The Child Custody Guide for Dummies
I am so thankful that I was able to get my hands on this book.I was once a dummy when it came to the legalities involving Child Custody but can honestly say that this book, SHOULD YOU REALLY SEEK CUSTODY OF YOUR CHILD?, enlightened me to the point now where I feel completley comfortable discussing child custody matters with my counsel, though the present circumstances are about as painful as one can go through.Dr. Kerman clearly explores all the issues surrounding seeking custody of your child through her extensive knowledge and experience, and presents them in a non-conventiontial method of exploring what is in "your best interest" as a parent. If you have any doubts about what course you should follow in making one of the most important determinations of your life, whether to seek custody, then I would strongly recommend that you make yourself familiar with this book before proceeding. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Pastoral Guide for Laypeople & Clergy
This is an excellent, pastoral and sensitive work that has given much hope to people searching for a solution to their individual marriage cases.Father Catoir is known for his sensitivity and gentleness and it is very evident in this book.Yet, it is also done in a professional, canonical and informed manner.5-0 out of 5 stars A Definitive guide for divorced and remarried Catholics
As a former advocate procurator for a Tribunal, I longed for a concise pastoral guide for the divorced and remarried Catholic, particularly with regards to the reception of the Eucharist. This is that book.Clearly and simply written, it gives a pastoral approach to the problem ofreception of the Eucharist by the remarried Catholic.Following the advicewill not be easy, particularly for those who feel their individualconscience must bow to external forums.Yet it relies upon Canon Law andthe 1994-97 Catholic Catechism to bring hope and joy to the remarried. Unlike the vicious diatribes of Vasoli and Kennedy who seek to wreckdemonical vengance upon their nullity seeking spouses, this guide uses theexamples of the Samaritan woman and the Chicago "marriage inpossession" practices to guide the "internal forum"solution. Thus, in good conscience, a divorced and remarried Catholic canreceive Communion, be a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, even when theTribunal has said that the evidence for the "external forum"isinsufficient.A must read for remarried Catholics, their pastors, andtheir bishops. Specific, practical, effective advice covers the entire gamut of pertinent issues including choosing a lawyer, Wisconsin divorce laws, developing a winning strategy, fighting judicial gender bias, why "temporary hearings" aren't really temporary at all, preparing for mediation, containing legal costs, continuing to be an active father during and after divorce, and much more. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding and Vital Contribution to the Subject
Professor Glendon of the Harvard Law School is a rare voice of sanity, compassion and honesty in America's abortion debates. She is an especially rare voice within the legal academy.Glendon shows that America's abortion regime, set into place by the Supreme Court in its infamous Roe v. Wade ruling, is the most radical in the Western world. In the United States, the richest nation in the world, we have the least amount of legal protection for unborn children; to use Orwell's phrase, they are "unpersons" as far as our laws are concerned.5-0 out of 5 stars Fair-Minded and Comprehensive
Mary Ann Glendon is among the most talented members of the faculty of the Harvard Law School, and this book is a detailed comparison of abortion and divorce laws in the major developed nations. Such a comparison leads to theconclusion that American law on these matters is the most extreme in thedeveloped world. Glendon then argues that the peculiar extremity of ourlegal situation reflects the deficiencies of a constitutional order thatplaces unprecedented importance on rights, a contention which is furtherdeveloped in her book, Rights Talk. This book is very valuable indispelling the notion that where we Americans stand with regard to abortionand divorce is simply consistent with the law of other Western nations. ... Read more

I qualified 2 years ago as a Marriage and Family Therapist and I know how vital it is for the therapist to have a firm grasp of the ethical and legal issues involved. And this book is a fine guide. Not being sexist or anything, but you just don't know when some flaky female client is going to misunderstand something you say and slap a harrassment suit on you. 9 times out of ten the husbands don't back you up in those sort of circumstances either so you need something like this book to bail you out. Excellent. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Heavy, but helpful and applicable
I was given this book by a relative who wanted to help me heal some pain in my 20s and now 11 years later I got the courage to pick it up again. The author is also an adult child of legal or emotional divorce and makes no distinction between the two. He argues that both are harmful to the child. Children, while apparantly resiliant at younger ages do indeed suffer consequences that often don't manifest until mid life hits and then, voila, they are ill equipped to keep their marriages together.
