5-0 out of 5 stars A must if you want to avoid a money sucking lawyer
I recently became a guardian of my young nephew but could not afford anddidn't want to deal with a lawyer. This book made it possible. It layedout the steps in a well structured manner.I was very satisfied with mypurchase. The forms itincluded with the book were just great.Buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, whether or not you will use an attorney!
As an attorney who regularly represents clients in guardianship proceedings, I strongly recommend that my clients read The Guardianship Book so that they understand the sometimes confusing process. In some cases, I hand the book to my clients during our first meeting, as "homework" to read before I will prepare and file a petition. For those who cannot afford an attorney, I recommend this as a resource that will save considerable time and avoid court hearing delays. For clients who can afford to pay my fees, the book still saves my time explaining many issues -- the $25 book can easily save $250 in attorney fees. 5-0 out of 5 stars For those involved in such a dispute, sound guidance
At the outset, I wish to say that I am personally offended by the illustration on this book's cover of a child dressed as a U.S. Marine. That said, I realize that for many involved in a child custody dispute, it may seem like a "war" to them. Charlotte Hardwick offers to them an abundance of practical advice as to how to formulate and then implement strategies which will help them to achieve their objectives. Almost daily it seems, the media inform us of violence which results in the deaths of estranged or divorced parents; worse yet, the deaths of their children. These are indeed tragedies. Less publicized (if at all) are child custody disputes in which one parent is better prepared than the other for obtain a court ruling favorable to her or him. (Many of murder/suicides occur after such a court ruling, despite a restraining order and other prudent precautions.) I highly recommend this book to any parent who either anticipates a child custody dispute or has become involved in one; also to grandparents and other relatives of the principals involved in such a dispute; also, to others who could become involved, such as clergy, law enforcement officials, social workers, school administrators, teachers, coaches, and even attorneys who do not specialize in child custody law. One of the greatest values of this book is that it identifies what seem to be all of the options to consider. Another is that Hardwickhelps her reader to sort through those options inorder to select those which are most appropriate. Once such selection has been made, Hardwick then answers the inevitable question "What now?" To the best of my knowledge, there is no other single volume which offers anywhere near as much information nor one which presents its often complicated material as clearly. 5-0 out of 5 stars My Friend Was Terrified!!
The book arrived! My friend was very happy to receive it.5-0 out of 5 stars Too Much Information, Is Just Right!
Every attorney I talked to sent me away. I didn't understand why.One woman told me to get my issues sorted out and get an education about what was really going on.I went to Dad's Against Discrimination meeting andthe guy sitting next to me had a copy of Win Your Child Custody War.Itwas three years old, tattered, marked on and very well used.I tried tobuy it from him but he wouldn't part with it. I found it here on Amazon. The one you sent me was twice as big as his.At frist I was overwhelmed. Then I was greatfull. After reading Win, I was able to sort things out andwith a great attorney I have temporary custody that will assure a safefuture for my sons. When it comes to the information in this book, too muchis never enough. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very important book, for everyone.
"America went from a scant 3,000 reported incest cases in 1980, to over 132,000 in 1987. And nearly 500,000 by 1990." This quote from the book alone should tell anyone that this is an extremely important andinvaluable book. It is a MUST READ, not only for anyone suddendly facedwith allegations of child abuse, but all lawyers, judges, social workersand pyschologists who work anywhere near this area. Finally, we haveguidelines for descerning real abuse charges from false ones, and atemplate for how to defend against the exploding number of false charges,by a team of experts who have worked this field for 20 years. As thesecharges are made in civil court, no one should be naive about the fact youare guilty until you go to the large expense of proving yourself innocent. And it is no longer only men caught in this. "Today, there is agrowing body of allegations against women."

5-0 out of 5 stars Scary but so true!
An excellent book for those falsely accused. In a time where anything a child says is taken as truth it is good to see that Dean Tong found the voice for the falsely accused. Today children know exactly what to say andwhat to do to get even or back at a parent. Children of divorce are all tooften used as weapons against their parents. This book gives attention anddetail to the system and the behind the scenes accounting of the process onabuse allegations. Dean Tong gives a voice and manual to the many who areor will be falsely accused. It can happen to anyone, read the book andlearn to protect yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Suggested gift for the falsely accused
There are many unexpected gems in this book: Chapter 10 has a wonderful, very useful explanation on anatomical dolls; I particularly liked pages 105, 108, and 112.In Chapter 11 on "Agencies," look forward topage 121.And Chapter 12 describes a volunteer court-monitoring systemwhich excited my pronounced sense of proactivism. Sate your appetite forvery useful information.Happy Holidays from falseallegations.com! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Effort
I had no idea what this book was, except for the title since there was not even the publisher's comments, but this was a topic I very much wanted - and needed - information about.Once I received it, I discovered that it is a "Reader" - which, in actuality, reads like a Ph.D. dissertation, involving a great deal of research and many many documented sources about the affect on children of domestic violence, particularly in the UK.Because of all the referrals to other documents, this is not the easiest reading, but it did enlighten me a great deal and appeared objective because of its involving so many sources.I am very anxious to try to read some of the books and articles referred to in the bibliography - if I can get them. The topics include, not only the affect on children, but also the way children are generally handled in this context, the laws relating to the children (in England), and the efforts toward treating the men.I did become much better educated after reading this book. The only reason it is not 5 stars to me is that it doesn't read as most books - but as a research paper - which is what it really is.That made it more tedious to me. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Unsolicited Faxes!
I would never buy this book! They sent us a fax with no return fax number and no way to be removed from their fax list. There was no contact number of any sort. This is a very sleazy way to do business and I would never buy a book from a company who would do this!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Cut and Dry
This book contains alot of great information for the parent who is RECENTLY SEPARATED OR DIVORCED.It gives a simple explaination how to negotiate the court system, what forms need to be filed, how to find an attorney, and how to determine child support. 5-0 out of 5 stars It's all in there
Child Custody Made Simple covers every issue of a custody plan and going to court about custody, finding the right lawyer or representing yourself, how to respond to custody emergencies, and enforcing child support.Watnik is not a lawyer, but this book is well-written and complete. This is a great primer for someone representing themselves in a custody matter, as well as someone represented by an attorney. It's a gem of a resource for who to contact for what kind of help, as well as defining the sometimes confusing legal jargon that accompanies custody cases. 4-0 out of 5 stars Filling a gap
This is the first book I've seen that addresses the important, and often confusing legal underpinnings of Foster Care in a manner that is helpful to those not in the legal profession. It's a must for anyone involved in the Foster Care system.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Expert Overview and Extremely Readable
This book is a terrific overview of the law of foster care, written by two of the leading experts in the field. It is a perfect introduction for social workers, lawyers, and others, and is a useful reference as well. And it is highly readable, not the ordinary legal treatise.
