5-0 out of 5 stars This book can also assist lawyers.
Although this book is designed for clients, this is an excellent guide for lawyers who generally do not practice in the family law arena.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book!
I randomly came across this book in the library while looking up something else.I thumbed through it a bit and then ended up checking it out and taking it home, where I have proceeded to read it almost constantly over the last couple of days (with occasional breaks for comparatively less compelling things like eating, sleep, class, and hanging out with friends).I'm always a bookworm and am used to becoming absorbed in what I read. However, this is the first time in quite awhile that I've been so caught up in a book, particularly a non-fiction book.5-0 out of 5 stars Compulsively Readable
This is a textbook of the juvenile dependency system that reads like a page-turner novel. I was unable to put it down for 2 days. The authors' treatment of their material is even-handed and true-to-life.I have worked for the past 4 years as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian Ad Litem for these children in my local juvenile court and the cases featured in the book closely mirror the actual cases I've seen over and over again in the courts. The book raises problems in the system to which there are no easy answers, and the authors don't attempt to offer any simplistic solutions:What does the system do with severely emotionally disturbed kids who blow through one placement after another? How do you know when to give up on parents and terminate parental rights?Do you wait until the child's crucial childhood years are mostly over, waiting for the parents to get their act together? How do we place children in good homes when there is such a shortage of foster and adoptive families?I urge anyone interested to get involved with the system as a volunteer. There are over 700 advocate programs around the country and the minimum time commitment is only 12 hours a month.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a superb book!
I have been in the field for over 20 years and this is the most accurate account of the Juvenile Justice system. The stories are real and moving.I could not put this book down. I did not agree with everything in thebook, however,if you want to know the real story then this is a mustread. ... Read more

Dr. Crowley has reached across the barrier between academia and the lay community to provide us with an insightful and thought-provoking book about the history and politics of Child support in America. But wait, it doesn't end there. The insights she has gleaned in writing this book, provide the political and academic community with a unique perspective by which to set their standards for creating future policy in this area and are also an excellent resource for political science students to study the way America has historically approached the making of public policy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A logical & comprehensive guide for both sides of the issue.
I am a noncustodial parent who has made some serious mistakes on my case. While no book can correct these mistakes, I now know how to avoid them in the future & to handle the problems I have now.My mistakes?I paidcash for child support, I lost my job & didn't know I could have theorder modified downward, I lost my driver's license before I learned how tomake payment arrangements & get it back. All in all, it was a veryinformative guide & easy to read.I highly recommend it to all parentswho have to deal with government child support enforcement agencies.

5-0 out of 5 stars I got my money!!!...
YES!!! I collected $11,225 in back child support thanks to Simone Spence's awesome book. 1-0 out of 5 stars Another child support expert
Spence is yet another self-described expert on child support collections taking advantage of human difficulty and ignorance. The vast majority of child support that is not paid, is not paid because the person ordered to pay doesn't have the money to pay, which results in a low probability of collections -- if he's not already paying. The fact that 80 percent of payments are normally made without problem never surfaces in this sort of book, which finds its roots as just another unfounded attack on men. Outside the very very low percent of actual "deadbeats" (those who can but won't no matter what), there is a much greater percent of those who can't but don't -- and a very easy prescription for getting greater financial support; stop blocking visitation, stop ripping the guy off, call off the war, grow up, and allow him to be involved in his children's lives the way he wants to. Then you won't ever have to waste money on a book like this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars I gave this book to my daughter!
I bought this book for my daughter!I two weeks, she already has siezed money from her ex's checking account to pay back child support. She is also having the child support payments increased because he is making moremoney now.She now knows what she needs to do to keep on top of thesituation. This book has payed for itself more that a hundred times over! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Will reduce the confusion and anxiety of not knowing
Wisconsin Father's Guide To Divorce And Custody was written by experienced men's rights advocates specifically for Wisconsin men having to consider or deal with a divorce and its emotional, financial, social, parental, and familial aftermath. Specific, practical, effective advice covers the entire gamut of pertinent issues including choosing a lawyer, Wisconsin divorce laws, developing a winning strategy, fighting judicial gender bias, why "temporary hearings" aren't really temporary at all, preparing for mediation, containing legal costs, continuing to be an active father during and after divorce, and much more. Wisconsin Father's Guide To Divorce And Custody is a user friendly, highly recommended "how to" manual that will significantly reduce the financial costs of legal fees, reduce the confusion and anxiety of not knowing what is going on or why, and enhancing the chances of a divorce settlement that is fair, unbiased, and as satisfactory as circumstances can permit under Wisconsin's legal system. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars "How To" get visitation in court when barred by mom/dad
The author presents the basic legal process on obtaining visitation rights via petitioning the circuit court in your state. The steps here are only for those who cannot negotiate reasonable visitation directly with the custodial parent. The book includes brief suggestions on hiring an attorney. The book is fairly dry and basic, with little commentary. An alternative would be to purchase a how-to divorce guide an apply the process to a grandparent motion; you may receive more in-depth information from a "how to" divorce guide on the court process than from this book. ...
