Perhaps outdated but offering ample food for thought is Sean Melvin's Y2K Business & Legal Survival Guide, which deals with handling the legal aspects of Y2K-related claims. The explanations of liability and computerlaw still apply.

Light reading about a number of serious topics.
This is a short, honest, informally written, unpretentious and mostly amusing account by and about a once common but now fast disappearing type of socially conscious attorney in our big American cities.A late sixties graduate of an elite law school, Geoghegan sought to change the world through the court system, to do well by doing good.Now, some forty years later, he tells us that he settles almost all his civil cases and he details the many ways in which he can't begin to try a criminal one.Geoghegan has also found it necessary to settle in many other, more important respects.He makes less than a first year associate at a large firm.He no longer looks to the courts to upset the status quo.Even as recently as Clinton, he expected intelligence on the federal bench.Now he finds less and less--and that was before Harriet Miers called George W the brightest man she ever met!
Avoid This Book!
The author is a weak, whiny fellow who spends the duration of this slender volume wallowing in self-pity at his wasted life.There are no insights about criminal trials nor criminal justice; the author is too much of a milquetoast to even do anything during the trial other than watch. Thomas Geoghegan has done a remarkable job showing both the triumphs and frustrations of a working case in the criminal justice system.The reader follows an appeal of a young man convicted in conspiracy during a robbery that had turned into murder.Geoghegan sits as the second chair (the support attorney) during the appeal. Geoghegan does a wonderful job of explaining that the convicts can actually be nice people and have remorse for their actions.The convicted shooter actually tries to help the young man during appeal by testifying for him, although he has nothing to gain.The reader learns that Geoghegan is surprised to find that the shooter is actually nice and well spoken.The reader follows through the appeal process and learns the law is very different depending what type the lawyer practices.Criminal is much different from civil in which Geoghegan practices.Read more

Captivating stories from a First Amendment warrior.
What is clear from the accounts of Garbus' battles for freedom of speech is that the struggle to be free or to remain free will never end. Garbus also shows how one person (or a few) can make a huge difference in the freesociety we enjoy today. The book portrays many heros, several scoundrals,and events in the past that all jump off the page in a new light. The book is a must read to understand the REASON for revenge and the equally important NEED to forgive.

Alan Dershowitz is a sick puppy
I had the opportunity of reading the first chapter of this "masterpiece" in a magazine, and I must say that if Alan Dershowitz thinks that murdering innocent children is some sort of defendable "Just Revenge" then he's not really fit to be making moral and legal arguments. This is a guy who defended O.J. Simpson and who currently advocates turning America into a police state.
What a mind!
This book is suspenseful, surprising, full of wisdom, as well as containing interesting information about the law as well as its limitations in rare cases for the layman. "Cast all your anxiety upon Him for He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7).
This account of the author's true-life struggle that continues even now is a very strong and inspiring testimony of how God helps us to bear struggles that would overpower and defeat us without His help.Not knowing when nor how life will "throw us the next curve" makes us utterly unable to withstand heartbreaking trials on our own, but having the faith this author demonstrates in a loving and faithful God makes His grace a very tangible resource that will not let us down.

Brilliant!
I am a college student studying to be a medical assistant.I had to write an essay on a specific medical lawsuit for my class "Medical Law and Ethics."I have not read a nonfiction book in years, but once I started reading this book I could not put it down.It is so stimulating, exciting, and brilliant.Mr. Werth had little to work with since there was no court room drama.He did a spectacular job with the resources he had.He is indeed an intelligent writer.I wish him well.

Instructive page turner...
Well written, a gripping story and balanced.I am teaching a course on medical malpractice at the local law school.This book is the text.It provides a frame work to discuss numerous issues and the potential impact - or more accurately non-impact - of many tort reform proposals.

It takes courage to speak an unpopular truth
ok, there is always bias....but so much bias goes against Michael that its only fair to see the other side...andother side that might just change your mind. This is the second published account od the 1993 events that follow this as an extortion attempt, the other was a GQ article: "was michael Jackson Framed"

Thank God someone finally wrote a book telling the truth.Although the book may not be as obective as some would prefer, it is factual in a way that many news reports regarding Jackson have not been.If anything, this book allows the reader to get some facts to consider side by side with what they have heard in the popular media and tabloids.So much of what is written here is obscured from the public.Let the people get a fair and balanced account of what happened and decide for themselves.I think that people of goodwill will decide after considering all the facts that: Michael Jackson made some naive decisions in who he allowed to cohabitate with him; Michael Jackson genuinely loves children in a non-sexual way which may be viewed as inappropriate by some, but certainly not criminal; Michael Jackson is a generous person; Many people want to exploit Michael Jackson for financial gain; Evan Chandler is capable of extortion and had the means, motive and opportunity to exploit the situation with his son; Jordie Chandler is a victim of parental exploitation; Michael Jackson is probably innocent of the crimes that he was accused of in 1993 as well as in 2005; and finally, because Michael Jackson settled with the Chandler family, and has admitted to sharing his bedroom with children, he has made himself vulnerable to more accusations.This book is a must read for those who are honestly seeking a full picture of the accusations against Michael Jackson and the motivations behind them.
