4-0 out of 5 stars Advanced Vehicle Stop!
This is a good book. It clearly tells you how to do a safe vehicle stop and the different approaches/sides you can do it and also how to do it safly. You have some good tips. It covers approaching an SUV, car, Trucks and Busses. The tactics are good. The book also cover high risk stops which cover Verbal commands, Moving occupants from Vehicle, Clearing the vehicle (not SWAT style), Clearing the trunk. Like someone elses was saying it get littlebit repetely against the end but a clearly 4 star it is.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good, but uneven book
I first considered giving this book 5 stars, but then decided 4 would be more appropriate. The book is written in a clear and easy to read style, with some drawings and photographs. The first half of the book covers low/unknown risk stops, and the second half focuses on high risk stops.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A well teaching book for the coast guard
It teaches about ROTC and the uniforms during your hopefull coast guard career. It also teaches all the necessary tools you need to be in the coast guard.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all
I am in the Coast Guard myself and when I was in boot camp they even handed out copies of this book to us to learn what we needed to know about the USCG. It covers everything from a brief history to customs and courtesies and to Maritime Law Enforcement. It talks about the different knots we use and how to properly tie the knot. There's history on the USCG's uniforms and the different ships we use to the different jobs that we offer. It's a great book for all and I even find myself at times referring to it whenever I need to know something! So I recommend it for anyone who is entering the Coast Guard, looking to up their seamanship skills or just want a refresher!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Excellant
I was issued one of these in boot camp back in 79.As a AmericanLegion Commander now, I needed to know how to properly handle a weapon whilemarching and doing drills.Darn I wish I had of keep it.But I orderedthe latest edition and see it is still the great manual it always was andstill has the commands and theexamples of how to do proper manual ofarms. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks Mr. Hall and Mr. Patrick!
John Hall is a true American Law Enforcement icon ... the world's leading expert on this topic. He and Pat Patrick have done an invaluable service to all of us "sheep dogs" in law enforcement and the military by explaining why the law is on our side.Any attorney assigned the task of investigating or defending our actions MUST read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read For Everyone In or Who Supports Law Enforcement
The information in this book will save law enforcement officers' lives, both on the street and in the courts. I've never read a book where every page is loaded with useful information. There is no 'filler' in this book. I've testified on behalf of many law enforcement officers on use of force and deadly force. The case studies and analysis supplied in this book are invaluable to those investigating, reviewing, or defending officer-involved shootings and uses of deadly force. The authors do an excellent job of translating the legal-ese into understandable language. This is a must read for every American Peace Officer, his or her family, attorneys for agencies and jurisdictions, and everyone who supports the institution of civilian policing in our country. The investment will save millions of dollars; from designing outstanding training for law enforcement officers so that they 'win' in the street and defending against frivolous lawsuits by those engaging in the lottery mentality of filing claims based upon ignorance or distortions of facts. As a police family, this book provides great 'peace of mind' for understanding the law and right (and need) for law enforcement officers' to use deadly force to defend themselves and every law-abiding American. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars On the mark
I think that Col. Hunt has written a superb book of the challenges facing the US regarding the terrorist threats to us all.He writes in a very deliberate and to the point style that I find refreshing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Factvs fiction
Col Hunt spells out the truth of the war we're in as compared to the bias of the media.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Excellent book! The subject matter is tough to handle at times, but I've bought this book for a few friends because it is so good.

4-0 out of 5 stars In response to Julia Truelove
I thought the book was a little jumpy. It deffinitely wasn't the best book I have ever read in my life. But then again, the purpose was not to be a literary classic. The purpose of this book is to raise awareness. So the book does it's job.
1-0 out of 5 stars Self-serving to the author
I agree with Anne Scialottas review.I am not a Christian so I found Haugen's prostelitizing appalling and self serving.I think a problem such as the gross injustice and sexual abuse of young girls is a problem that everyone needs to be aware of (leave the silly religious zealot soap-boxing out of it)and make the government aware of the problem, then instead of giving lip-service, DO something about it as U.S. politicians with power to do so,.. no one cares if you are Christian. If you are a Christian, that is wonderful. Many other religions and nations that do not practice Christianity should be addressed and have just as much (if not more) love and compassion for the human condition and the oppression/abuse of poor people. Anne pointed out that not just women/girls in Vietnam are in this situation. In fact it is going on in brothels right under the author's "hero" (as he calls him adoringly "Our President, George W. Bush" nose)As if Bush is some leader or Jesus Christ -like savior for the poor people in this horrible situation.( Bush has been sending our military to kill those in Iraq for years now!) Oprah Winfrey's recent show pointed out about brothels just blocks from the White House where our own US citizens children and pedophiles promote and participate in the sex trade industy. (YES, the Administration is aware of it!) I feel this author seems to portray Vietnamese people as sinful, "not-'saved" therefore scorned as non-Christians(so not HOLY as he himself and his arrogant organization IJM is)He boasts ad-infinitum early on in this book about all of their amazing accomplishments to rescue the young girls via "daring" sting operations, endangering their own lives(!) all the while interspersing bible phrases and quoting scripture. He certainly puts himself on a pedastal along with his co-horts.I feel his goal as Anne stated is to raise money (which I would not trust at all)and tout his own Christian rhetoric and create his own followers. This "cause" of his might well be a self-serving ruse for self-importance and to gain popularity and notoriety for himself and the other gullible Christians in his circle. Taking these girls to a rescue place and most-likely brain-washing (traumatizing no doubt)conversions to Christianity(as happened to our Native American Indians in the US)Those swept up in the nauseating Christian revival movements may be impressed with his so-called social work/saving these girls. In general , the only good point may be (partially) helping to bring to light this problem to the forefront of the American public awareness;his narrow-focused, faith-based work seems somewhat unintelligent and certainly not close to scholarly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for anyone interested in police work!
This book offers a unique insight into the effect that police shootings have on the officers who are involved. It covers the extensive training that officers receive about shooting incidents, stories from officers who would have been justified in shooting but did not fire, stories from officers who did shoot, more stories from officers who had been shot, and stories from officers describing the aftermath and lasting effects of their shooting experiences. The author interviewed several policemen and women, and the stories his book contains are all genuine.Names and certain identifying information have been altered to protect the anonymity of the interviewees, but the content of their stories remains intact.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Civilian's Immersion into Life or Death Decision Making
Mid-level corporate executives are constantly bombarded by competing forces to make seeminingly crucial decisions in what feels like maddingly short time frames. The customer and the board of directors; both relentless and unforgiving. As such, I am always looking for glimpses into other disciplines as to how these dynamics can be better balanced.Edges into how assuredly stressed individuals can perform in a calm, clear focused manner, meeting the needs of both of the divergent groups they serve.
5-0 out of 5 stars Life and death decided in the blink of an eye
I grabbed a copy of KILL ZONE after Malcolm Gladwell described it as "fascinating" and "extraordinary" in his new book BLINK.KILL ZONE does not disappoint. In fact, it is a wonderful read, taking the reader inside the hearts and minds of our nation's police officers in a way I've never seen before.KILL ZONE presents the stories of dozens of cops who have shot suspects in the line of duty and lived to tell about it.In five lucid chapters, it covers 1) why men and women become cops, 2) the training young officers receive about making the ultimate decision that Gladwell focused on in the last chapter of BLINK, 3) how cops manage to avoid pulling the trigger when they have justification to do so (some incredibly scary stuff), 4) gunfights (the stories of officers' perceptions during shootings, as Gladwell touched on in BLINK, are quite amazing), and 5) how officers live with the knowledge that they have shot someone.I was particularly taken by the story of a young female officer who killed a carjacker after he shot her through the heart, staved off death by the sheer force of her will, and then went back to work to keep protecting her community. In all, KILL ZONE offers a compelling portrait of how America's cops deal with the awesome power they have over life and death.Like I said in my review of BLINK, anyone who wants to learn more about decision making under extreme pressure and the intriguing topic of police shootings should do what I did and read Klinger's KILL ZONE ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A good intro text only
I was originally excited for the update of this text. I was diappointed after such a long wait. The book is a good text for the basics of drug enforcement, but many of the focus areas are watered down. Where are the tactics and techniques for the street officer? In comparison to other high quality texts from CRC Press such as Geberth's Practical Homicide Investigation, Practical Drug Enforcement misses its mark. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to start a Risk Management Program.
As a safety officer myself, I found this book truly captivating. I couldn't put it down.If you ever had a difficult time starting a safety program, I recommend you read "Risk Management in the FireService". This book is a recipe for an effective safety/riskmanagement program.Mr. Wilder's five-step risk management process is sosimple, I will use it for all future safety programs.I can't think of anyincident too complex for this process.I used to think budget determinedhow effective a safety program could be, but this book gives step-by-stepadvice on things you can do within any budget. It's nice to know there's areference and an authority I can turn to when I need help.Thank you Mr.Wilder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes fire service and EMS risk management understandable
While the concept of risk management is new tofire and EMS services, it is obviously not new to the author. His fire science background combined with his risk management background make him the logical choice to trainthe industry. Having sat in on lectures given by the author, I purchasedthe book with the hopes that it would be as easy to follow as are hisclasses. I was not disappointed. This book is written in a such a way thatit takes a complex topic and makes it easy to follow and understand. As afire department captain and EMT, I have already taken some of the ideasgained from this book and brought them into our department. I stronglyrecommend this book for fire department administrators, training officers, safety officers, and anyone interested in learning the basics of riskmanagement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clearly, Mr. Wilder is the authority in this field !
Having spent nearly 28 years in the risk management business it is refreshing to find a book that deals with timely issues in a clear, concise manner. The exposures unique to fire fighters/medics are unique and Mr.Wilder has unique approaches to today's risks. This book is a must read forany fire department in the United States and City Managers, Fire Chiefs, firemen and women would be remiss if it wasn't mandatory reading. One thingfor sure. . . as soon as we are finished posting this review an invitationwill be extended to Mr. Wilder to come address our departments and keypersonnel. I would encourage anyone in the business, who has not read thismasterful work, to pick it up. I am certain based upon years of defenserelated consulting work that this book will become a standard in theindustry and will be guide lines for conduct observed by both theplaintfiff and defense bars across the country.
