5-0 out of 5 stars Criminal Law
I thought this book was very useful in the study of Criminal Law at the undergraduate level. I enjoyed the author's selection of cases and thought that they were edited well so that they remained readable.

1-0 out of 5 stars I never got that book,
very fast but i never got the book, and refund

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text
As one of Professor Samaha's students, I found that using this particular text in corrolation with his lectures was extremely benefical in learning the basics of criminal law.His personal insight on the case studies undoubtedly aided in understanding the material, but I suspect that the text would not have stuck me as such an outstanding book had Professor Samaha not been there to add additional information on each aspect of his work. However, even without the personal commentary, the text is still a very clear and concise resource that would be excellent for an introductory course on criminal law. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Supervision of Police Personnel
Same like the Criminal Investigation book. I needed it so that I can studyfor the Sergeant exam. And Amazon.com was the only place that I could've order the book from. Keep selling the special books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Must have!Must buy!... but that doesn't make it good...
For promotion exams in my area, this is THE book that the examiners use for the supervision questions.
1-0 out of 5 stars dry as dry could be
This book was very dry and difficult reading due to the fact the contents could not keep my attention. The 15 questions on the sergeants exam that pertained to this book were lengthy questions that were the demise of all test takers scores. Although everyone passed the exam all test takers complained about the 15 responsibility questions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great working with you.
Your book was in great conditions, I'll do business with you again.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION
Relatively up to date (September 11 and law enforcement reactions, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.), and very informative, this textbook provides an excellent survey of the Criminal Justice System. The prose is streamlined, clear, and somewhat non-biased.Minor corrections may need to be made (e.g. the textbook states that the majority of female sexual assault victims do not know their attacker. . .), but these flaws are minor for a textbook of this scope. The book is extensively source documented, making it perfect for anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of the Criminal Justice System. The CD-ROM and online tools are comprehensive, and give the reader/student a more intimate view of the author's vision.

4-0 out of 5 stars Criminal Justice.

This subject is very interesting and the book go along with it well. The book is very interesting and is not boring to read. It has a lot of detailed pictures and information that goes along with it. Plus the reading is enertaining. This overall is a very good book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the book I was looking for
I bought this book because I'm interested in series on discovery such as: Forensic Detectives, Medical Detectives and The Fbi Files. This book describes everything(see table of contents) in detail, from the history of crime investigation till gunshots etc. After almost every subject, the book givesreal life examples and pictures.5-0 out of 5 stars The best in a long line of boring criminal justice books!!!
This book is by far one of the best of the criminal justice books that Ihave ever read.If it wasn't required reading for my CriminalInvestigations class, I just might have picked it up and read it on my own. This book is one of the most interesting and easy to read books that hasever been required reading. The photography in the text helps with thetopics in the reading much more than in any other books I've read.Thougha bit gruesome, the photos are of great quality and only help the book thatmuch more. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good gloss on Dressler's casebook
This book isn't going to change anyone's life, but it is well written. It's also the perfect complement to Dressler's casebook, providing much more indepth analysis and notes than the casebook. As grizzled vets of past law school exams will tell you, it is frequently the notes and squib cases that fact patterns on exams are drawn from. If you can recognize those fact patterns instantly and have a pre-digested analysis ready to go, you will be at a distinct advantage in the exam sweepstakes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful review book
This book explains all of the basic concepts of criminal law in a clear, intelligent manner. His explanations were so clear that I could easily incorporate them into my outline, even though the guide was not keyed into the assigned casebook.I used this book to study for my crim law exam.My professor wasn't very well organized, so I really did not feel very confident about the exam before using this book. This book helped me get one of the highest grades in the class.
3-0 out of 5 stars Keyed to DRESSLER Casebook - Good treatise
DRESSLER is heavy in political correctness and Model Penal Code and is also anti - Common Law tradition, and anti-anything to do with moral principles - hence the recurring theme of "Legality". However, if you can get past all that - & if you are using the DRESSLER Casebook - this treatise is keyed to it .. Also, His Audio lecture on CD-ROM is also keyed to the casebook. A nifty package that is throughly integrated. Tab the table of cases in the treatise & refer to it when doing case following hypo problems. ALSO, GET LaFave's Treatise / Hornbook - as a source for great exam prepping Hypos..Overall a very concise treatise in a small package. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Missing a "key" point...
While this book does address a variety of necessary topics and its overall praise is well-deserved there is a gap, which means there is still a need for a textbook in forensic entomology. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Overview of Forensic Entomology
This work is extraordinarily useful to any death investigation professional. It provides an extensive overview of all aspects of forensic entomology with chapter contributions from the leading forensic entomologists in the United States and Canada. It is expertly written so that the investigator with no formal entomological training can easily understand the context of the book, while still on a level that other formally trained entomologists will find very useful. It is richly illustrated with over 150 color photos of insects of forensic importance. This allows investigators to immediately recognize forensic insects at the scene so that collection can be assured. This book is certain to become an invaluable reference for anyone in the field of forensic entomology, or those involved in the collection of entomological evidence from a death scene. It is a perfect complement to the other works published on the subject by K.G.V. Smith and E.P. Catts. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Alright.
In a word, this book "sucks."I had to purchase it for a class in which I am currently using.Yea, it has an ABUNDANCE of useful information, but the part that gets me is the fact that if your teacher uses Abadinsky's testing booklet, it's all wrong. It's even been discussed in our class at how off the test questions are as opposed to what's in his book.If possible, which is hard when it comes to textbooks, buy another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for Criminal Justice majors
I am a college professor who just finished teaching ORGANIZED CRIME to twenty college juniors and seniors.I selected Abadinsky's book as the text because it is carefully and thoughtfully "choreographed."The information provided flows in a sensible and clearly written design. Some texts appear to be designed for Rhodes Scholars and are virtually impossible to read. This is not the case with this great book!I recommend it to teachers and those who have in interest in this fascinating subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Organized Crime's concept, empircial evidence and current LE
If you (the reader, the researcher) is interested in Organized Crime, I strongly recommend this book (Howard Abadinsky's Organized Crime, 6th Ed.) This book is the only detailed book I have come across in studying Organized Crime. I am currently a criminal justice graduate student attending the University of Central Florida. RSB ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I guess if your class requires it, you have to get it.
I find it hard to believe this book was edited before it was sent to the publisher. For a college text book, there are multiple mistakes. It refers to modern day Native Americans as Indians. The pictures are something to be laughed at. There are pictures showing officers standing around with their hands in their pockets, male suspects laughing as they are being searched by female officers; the cover has an officer appearing to be using "community policing" while sitting on the back of his patrol car. I have yet to run into a department where that is exceptable. There are many more law enforcment books out there with more information, that is better put togeather, and not such a bore to read. But, I guess if your class calls for this book, you have no choice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Resource
As a school administrator, I find the information on interviewing and interrogation helpful in getting to the bottom of issues I previously have not been able to solve. The questioning techniques and the observation of behaviors presented in this book enable me to allow my students to tell the truth and help to solve their own issues. The resolution of these issues and the breaking down of lies and cover-up behavior is the first step to helping students make better decisions. This book is an invaluable resource in that regard. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
This book was very good. Dressler's classic "Understanding Criminal Law" has a more thorough (and probably better) explanation of the law. However, the Examples in this book are very helpful and as a result this book rivals Dressler's.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time
All of the E&E books I've read, including this one, are disappointing. They might be good if you haven't been attending class and need to learn the material for the first time. But I'm not sure why you would waste time on these vague materials if you have kept up in class. I recommend a more advanced study guide. Also, the Q&As at the end of the chapters are too verbose. Most of the answers are pages long, when they should be at most a few paragraphs, if not a few sentences.

2-0 out of 5 stars Almost Useless
Unlike most other Examples & Explanations Series, this one is one of the worst I have read.Authors waste too much time on history of criminal law and MPC, and very little time explaining the law.Common law and MPC are not distinguished and characterized well, and no clear conclusions of law are given. The example are very plane, without exploring the variety and complexity of real-life problems.Unbelievably, only 35 pages are spent on homicide, the most common and complex problem in criminal law, and the examples and explanations for homicide are terrible. ...
