4-0 out of 5 stars Crash Course on Crimes
I left first year criminal law a little underwhelmed. After a lifetime of Law & Order, I just assumed that a law school crimes class would overwhelm me.But when class ended - and I felt normal - I figured I must have missed something.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gilbert Law Summaries: Criminal Law
This is an excellent book.It is clear and easy to read.Of all the material that we are using in my law school, this one is the most information dense. In fact, it condences information from the lectures, casebook, and handouts from class.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected
This was among the 7 pieces of source material on my most recent exam.It was better than I expected.I looked at it from the perspective that I should use a person's culture to my advantage. With a familiarity of culture specific issues, I can make myself a more effective police officer.I found the author's writing to be of high quality, but book did not make me more culturally diverse. If you are looking for a book that teaches you how to be a police officer, this is not it.If you are looking for a book that might explain why the Iranian guy got mad at you last week, this is the right one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Multicultural Law Enforcement
The worse book I have ever read. This book is filled with Liberal jibberish and worthless information that the authors try to pass off as fact. This 500+ page masterpiece is loaded with unfactual opinions from people who know absolutely nothing about Police work. It could have been explained in 50 or less pages.Don't waist your money!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Balanced and Necessary
This book is an important contribution to policing at multiple levels. It discusses ethnic and minority groups in a respectful manner, attempting to avoid stereotypes. It provides the police officer with insight into and strategies for policing a multicultural society. At no point does it even slightly suggest that law enforcement should use culture or race as an excuse to not enforce the law.The introductory chapter provides a framework for understanding the phenomenon of immigration in the U.S., and connects 21st century demographics to the need for the book itself. The authors provide useful information on topics such as community policing, racial profiling, and hate crimes. It is absolutely ridiculous to refer to this book as apologetic or soft on crime. If police officers are not ready for this book, then they should get out of policing. This book is one of the best that I have seen for law enforcement professionals related to the multicultural society. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth doing the time to read
It doesn't seem like it would be easy to have an impact onsociety from behind prison walls, but, easy or not, that is what K. C. Carceral has achieved. "Behind a Convict's Eyes" is tangible proof that even a convicted felon may make an important and positive contribution.

1-0 out of 5 stars Charging for information that is free on the internet
I bought this book because, like many others, I have an interest in the death penalty in the USA. This book is written in a very sensationalist form, which I didn't mind. Knowing what crimes the men and women committed, their last meal etc. is all interesting stuff. However, it was obvious to me that the author of this book gathered the information in it from various internet sites, specifically the official texas death row site.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely compelling
Regardless of how anyone feels about the death penalty, it is compelling to read and can also be disturbing.1-0 out of 5 stars Voyeurism
This book in no way is able to educate about the Death Penalty. In my opinion it only tries to satisfy the voyeurism of people who want nourish their feelings of revenge and hatred. Very poor. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Gary and Stephanie Ramona were part of a fairly typical, affluent Napa Valley family when Holly, the eldest of their three daughters, "remembered" her father raping her. Though the Ramona family was far from cohesive, Holly's accusations destroyed whatever glue had held them together. The lines were drawn clearly: the women of the family, Stephanie and her three daughters, shut Gary out swiftly and surely. Hoping to win his children back, he fought back the only way he knew how. The lawsuit he brought against Holly's therapist, whom he believed planted Holly's disturbing memories, set a precedent, and it would inevitably affect both the counseling profession and this gentrified community the Ramonas called home. 5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful examination of "recovered" nightmares
I first learned of this fine volume--named from an expression born during the Salem witch trials--while at a skeptic's meeting the keynote speaker for which had gone through a bogus "therapy" which ended her marriage and nearly her life. The person who told me of the book pointed out that the book's alleged victim, the one who'd "recovered" her memories--one of the turns for the worst of the victim culture--is now a therapist. Why does that not surprise me?5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
Destined to be a "classic" of all the books on the memory wars. The author masterfully recounts a tragic case of alleged incest by a fatheragainst his daughter, and captivates and educates the reader. This bookexcellently reounts the family's background, the therapy and theconfrontation, the science and the theories and counter-theories involved, and the court case and its aftermath. This is a must read for anyoneinterested in false and recovered memories, and the legal cases spawned bythe same.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very disturbing indictment of reality.
What and how do we really remember? Is memory ever really "the truth"? And why are all these people remembering things that supposedly never happened, yet are willing to destroy their lives in the process of asserting their perception of reality? Although this book has more questions than answers, it is very thought provoking and enlightening. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book
If your professor isn't using this book, shame on them. This book is written in clear, concise language that any student at this level can understand.I'm using it now, and my class is based entirely on this text. Lots of useful information. I actually like reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book! Lots of useful information.!
This book provides all the basic information in criminal justice. It is clear and doesn't go above your head with technical lingo.I had Joel Samaha as a professor at the University of Minnesota and he is very knowledgable in his area. This book is filled with useful information if you are persuing a career in law enforcement.I would recommend this book to anyone who is just starting out in a intro. to crimal justice class. It also comes in handy as reference for those who are more advanced. I often use it to brush up on facts in my upper division courses. It's worth the price!

4-0 out of 5 stars An useful tool in understanding Criminal Justice
This book was a required text in my Criminal Justice class at Stephen FAustin State University. The class was based entirely on the text.Uponcompletion of the class I was pleased with the ammount of information thatI had learned.I found it so interesting, I am planning on becoming apolice officer myself, and will be attending the academy in January.Iwould suggest this book to anyone who wants to teach a basic CriminalJustice class, or just wants to learn more about the subject on thier own. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Courtroom 302
This book is a candid look at life in Chicago's Cook County Criminal Courthouse. It covers the day-to-day actions of accused criminals, court officers, public defenders, prosecutors and judges from inside the courthouse and lockups.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good read but also depressing.
I found this book to be a good book to read but it also made me realize more than ever how unjust our justice system can be.The author portrays the people involved in the criminal justice system as being so mechanical at their jobs that justice just doesn't seem to enter the picture very often.Sadly the book is probably an accurate account of the Chicago court system, or any other court system in our country, but reading it made me wonder, if all this injustice is so evident to everyone involved, why is it being allowed to continue. These people who have other peoples futures and freedom in their hands seem to just find it easier to follow their routine than to do the right thing and create a criminal justice system that really does protect us and consider everyone innocent until proven guilty. This book definitely reaffirms the sad state that our court systems have become.

5-0 out of 5 stars Courtroom 302 not the television perspective of the courtroom
A must read for anyone remotely connected to or interested in the criminal justice system. It is at once informative and depressing. What makes it so valuable is that you get the back story of each participant (judge, DA, PD and defendent). The reality of a system that treats defendents with disdain and offers justice for a price should open a few eyes. I made it required reading this summer for my students doing internships in the court system. ... Read more

The applications of Biometrics technology range from federated identity management to digital rights management, time and attendance, background checking, and homeland security. None of the biometric characteristics has received more attention till date than fingerprints. Fingerprint recognition is the most cost effective and accurate biometrics, which is evident from its rapid deployment in the widest range of security applications. 5-0 out of 5 stars A "must" for all interested in Biometrics
