4-0 out of 5 stars Understand U.S. Immigration Law through examples.
The most striking thing about this book is the extensive use of examples throughout the book. One of the main problems in understanding the law is trying to figure out how it applies to your particular situation. The use of examples is one of the best ways for an author to explain the various aspects of any law. In this book, the author did such a fantastic job that I have picked up the book at various times in the last decade to figure out how I can solve my own particular immigration problem and I was able to fix it very fast. He does such a great job that I got carried away by the confidence the book inspires and decided to handle one of the more difficult immigration situations myself. It worked out alright but in hindsight, I should have taken the assistance of a lawyer to make things easier for myself. 5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
This is the best book on this subject available. I am a new citizen to this country, and it would have not happened so easily without this great book. Thank you, Mr. Wernick.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very usefull and well written
This is an excellent book for anyone going through the hurdles of US Immigration. The author covers all bases and still keeps the text easy to read and easy to reference. I have seen Mr. Wernick speak and have read his authoritative newspaper column and this book lives up to his usual high standards. It is the only book of its kind you will need and with the high cost of legal advice, you will save time and money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is terrible.
I thought I was purchasing an Administrative Law text book. This is not a text book. It is a book of this guy's opinion. For example, he writes that the courts are not well suited to the task of being a watchdog overagencies and says that the members of the Reagan Supreme Court believe thatit is not the proper judicial role for for judges to play an active role inpolicy making. The guy never mentions that the Consitution makes aseparation between the courts and legislature -- he just decides to bashReagan and his appointees. He also states: "...the Depts. ofEducation and energy are still alive and well today and apparently notendangered despite nearly 2 decades of attack by Republicanpresidents...even though the agency's (National Endowment for the Arts)budget is less than a pittance of the whole federal budget, the agency hasbecome the symbolic whipping boy of Speaker Newt Gingrich..."Thisopinion has nothing to do with administrative law, and is completelyunnecessary. I certainly hope anyone who has to read this book for a classwill think for themselves before taking what this guy says as law. Further,he says he's a professor at, according to US News, a fourth tier lawschool: Washburn University. However, I can't seem to find his e-mailaddress there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
To the torture apologists: You need to ask Mandel Al Jamadi and Diliwar about their "humiliation." Oh that's right, you can't because they're dead, hung from the ceiling and beaten to death.
1-0 out of 5 stars Way too liberal
Once and for all, prisoners at Abu Ghraib were humiliated, not tortured. If you don't know the difference, well................

5-0 out of 5 stars Every American should have this book
Every one of the 50 people at my son's wedding reheasal will be receiving one from me. Like a "Bible zealot", I am becoming a "US Constitution zealot." The book is small & easy to read, a good learning handbook for everyone.FREEDOM THROUGH KNOWLEDGE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Victim of Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
I think that some zealot right-wingers got a hold of this because I can't find the part about separation of church and state anywhere.Oh, that's right that did not exist until the Everson v. Board of Education decision in 1947.This was a 5-4 decision by a court packed with Roosevelt's socialist justices and they barely bought into this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
This is truely a wonderful item.It is reference that everyone should have.I orginally bought it just for a copy of the constitution, however, I have found the court cases and other parts to be just as helpful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Constitutional or Unconstitutional - Explained
An excellent analysis of how the Justices of the Supreme Court decidewhether or not a law (created by Congress or the States) is valid or not. More than just a compilation of majority, concurring and dissentingopinions, this book looks at why the decisions were made, not just what thedecisions were.Well worth the money and a fine addition to the library ofanyone interested in law or the legislative process. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and easy to follow
This book is an absolute life saver for those trying to muddle through the United State's fiance/spouse visa process. It include step-by-step and line-by-line instructions on all of the forms and tries to answer any questions you might have. It also includes checklists in the back for each visa process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - Well Written and Highly Recommended
My wife and I were married in St. Petersburg, Russia. When I returned to the USA, I began the immigration process for her to obtain her visa so that we could be together as husband and wife. Not knowing the first thing about which forms to fill out, I did a lot of online research, and chose to purchase this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Better than a lawyer

1-0 out of 5 stars Disaster.
This is one of the worst law books I have ever read.It was assigned for an upper-level constitutional class.Trying to decipher what the authors are attempting to impart through the near total use of squibs as opposed to full opinions, and their own cryptic notes interspersed among snipets of the cases, is next to impossible to accomplish. In addition, their particular method of editing is intrusive and annoying. Some of the brightest minds in the country have written classic opinions on the very important subjects in this book. Why in the world Sullivan and Gunther think they can do better is beyond me given their result.Avoid this book like the plaque if at all possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
This is a classic Law school Constitutional Law case book. It's very complete, with A LOT of cases, but some useful explanations and the latest development in constitutional history.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good casebook for a very difficult subject
Profs Gunther and Sullivan's casebook is an excellent casebook for Constitutional Law which is a difficult area of law professors to teach and for law students to understand. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Johnson's Classic Novel of "Passing"
Many novels of the African-American experience in the United States use the theme of "passing". These novels generally involve a light-complexioned African-American who can "pass" for white.Among other things, novels based on a theme of "passing" allow the character and the author to comment upon black-white relationships in the United States from both sides -- from the black experience and from the white experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully woven plot that holds your interest
I absolutely loved reading this book, and would eagerly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn of Johnson's America through the eyes of a man caught between two worlds. The sometimes humorous passages and vivid details held my interest and fueled my imagination. I have countless sections of the book underlined in red. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Separation of Church and State Does Not Permit Harmful Acts
We live in a time where extremes of behavior seem to have almost become the norm. We have a long tradition of separation of church and state, where the rules of church and state seem to operate in parallel with almost no touching. And we seem to be in a time where the most fundamentalist Christian beliefs have become stronger in America while the most fundamentalist Islamic beliefs are being used to build an army for a holy war against America, the Great Satan.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Balanced Look at Righting Judicial Incompetence
When you think of people who break the law and get by with it, what kind of person comes to mind? A rogue bureaucrat who can arrange an audit of anyone who opposes him? A cop on the take, who can hide some evidence and manufacture the rest? A celebrity who can buy a trial, and later write a book about it?
