A Keeper Book
This well-written book helps debunk any assumption that the title "Why Lawsuits Are Good For America"may contain an oxymoron.Mr. Bogus describes a common law system that is very recognizable to those of us who practice law in America today. Jurors take their responsibilities very seriously.Jurors are fully capable of finding facts and applying nuanced statements of the law and crafting reasoned verdicts.Keep this book in your library and refer to it when you hear others fretting about whether jurors can handle emotional or big dollar cases.

Depressing
The problem with this book is that it doesn't adress important issues facing our legal system today. If for example Ford motor company manufactures a SUV with a faultly shock system that fails and causes the truck to roll over resulting in serious injury or death, clearly we have an open and shut case where Ford is completely liable and you can certainly bet that Ford is going to make sure that problem never happens again. But that's obvious. Anyone who knows little to nothing about the law understands full well that a company who is found to have a faulty product will increase their standards and work feverishly to fix the product in order to prevent future legal action. Carl T. Bogus has taken simple ideas like those and twisted them around to create a driving force for his political agenda, and baseless political agenda no less.
Disciplined Democracy
The author's central argument is that product liability lawsuits are an essential vehicle for enabling citizens to impose societal values on powerful corporations. The market can't do this because the profit motive can encourage corporate behavior that unfairly imposes business's costs on the public. Government regulation is often hamstrung by the pressures powerful competing interests bring to bear on the political process. But, combined with important safeguards built into the judicial process, juries bring diverse life experiences, societal mores, and a gut-level sense of fairness to important issues that impact citizens' lives. More than you might expect
Very impressive book. My initial impression was that this would be another competently researched book on tarot & it's history, I soon realised that it is a lot more. This is one of the most concise histories of modern westen occultism that I have found. Even though it's not broad in scope the leval of detail is impressive. The history of Tarot is thorogh & well presented but the background on Occult orders was unexpected. Groups like the Golden Dawn & the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor are covered with enough detail to merit this being rated as a good general history of Occultism. The Church of Light & Manly Hall are treated with good biographical essays on the central characters. Even though I have been reading about these people & groups for many years I learned much new information here.

A Senior (Judge) Moment...
This book comes as a disappointment.Prior to reading of Narrowing the Nation's Power, I had perused several reviews of it-some praising it and some panning it-and I was actually expecting to really enjoy the book and agree with all of its arguments.Unfortunately, I found myself underwhelmed after reading it.

This Book is Not About Depositions
I just went through 13 hours of deposition time and let me clue you, this woman is only giving you the basic bs and I am going to write my deposition book, because the judicial system is at best corrupt and some of the attorneys are absolutely criminals and will lie andcheat - depositions are complexed and a detailed books from a deponent's point of view and with legal ease needs to be done.

An Inspiring Story
This is a very interesting and very introspective account from behind the scenes in the landmark Cohen v. Cowles supreme court case.Reporters broke their promise to Cohen not to print his name as the person who disclosed public arrest records of the 1982 candidate for Minnesota Lieutenant Governor.Cohen lost his job and was ruined.By contrast the candidate who was the subject of the public records served two terms as lieutenant governor.The candidate for whom Cohen worked went back to being a billionaire businessman.

Great collection
I bought a whole stack of books on law and philosophy during the several months before I actually started law school (in fall 2000, at the age of 37). Most of them were just for "personal use"; as you can tell from my other reviews, I have a longstanding interest in philosophy anyway. But I waited until I completed a semester before reviewing them, so that I could plug the ones I found most useful. An excellent book
In my view, it�s the best compilation about philosophy matters about tort law. It seems to me that this book includes interesting works such as : "The Practice of Corrective Justice" by Coleman; Wealth Maximization and Tort Law.." by Posner; Right, justice and tort law by Wright;Intention in tort law by Finnis, The basis for excluding liability for economic loss in tort law, by Benson; Necessary and sufficient conditions in tort law by Honor�;Contributory negligence.. by Simons;Risk, harm and responsibility by Perry, and so on. Without the slightest doubt if you like the tort law, you should have it.
