One of my favorite study aids
I love these Examples & Explanations books.The rules make sense when you can get decent examples, and these books do a good job of that.
Great book
Great book. Definitely doesn't cover every area of Torts that you're going to need to know for your course (IIED, false imprisonment, etc.). Get Gilberts or Emanuels or just use your class notes on this stuff though. Also: if your professor has a slightly different view on the rules (even if it's just a difference in semantics) use your prof's rules when working the Examples. Writing out your answers to the Examples throughout the semester will solidify your knowledge and you won't have to struggle to memorize the elements of each rule at the end of the semester.

BE CAREFUL WHICH EDITION YOU BUY!
The book is great as it is, no doubt, but the older editions do not have Products Liability in them, which is VITAL to your studies. Make sure you get the latest edition, which has two chapters on PL.

Finz is a very good presenter
I used this review for the bar exam and found it to be very helpful.Finz is both entertaining and concise.This set is thorough and I would recommend it for law school or the bar or even for professionals just looking for 'nutshell' encapsulation of the subject of Torts.This one compares favorably to the many other Sum and Substance CDs as well as other sets I've listened to.

A great break from reading torts
Finz has an interesting accent and he does sing a few times, but this cd set is a great way to refresh after lecture or after reading the text.From intentional torts to strict liability to products liability, Finz covers it all and he uses examples to illustrate his point -very useful.I would give it 5 stars, but he is somewhat annoying.I'll never be able to get "fun trucking, fun truckiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg" out of my head.Buy the set and find out what I'm talking about.

The Must-Have Review of Torts

Synchronicity???
Is this book, a worthwhile read, an attempt to close the book on shady goings-on in Woburn of the 1960s?Were some children in this case treated for leukemia using cutting edge techniques of the day,such as bone marrow transplants, and some of those children survived only to be tormented because of their unexpected survival?
Just a an ending, not a beginning!
This is a necessary book which does a public service by highlighting the repercussions of poor environmental stewardship. It does not, however, indicate the extent of a broader mystery behind the events in Woburn and Middlesex county itself, respectively.

This Book is a Tort Itself
This is biased, pro-plaintiff, and hard to follow. It is a self-justifying, defender of the out of control legal profession. Only 60 pages are devoted to the defense. There is nary a word, beyond brief dismissal, of the devastation wrought upon our besieged Nation by the profession. There is nary a word about changing the unconscionable 80% error rate in tort litigation. There is nary a word about the wackiness that passes for judicial decision making, mind reading, fortune telling, etc. A fine hornbook

Really good study aid
This is a great study aid for all first year law students.Each of the over 600 flash cards asks and answers questions designed to assist in learning first year law school torts.Each section of the flash cards (e.g., nuisance) starts with cards setting forth the black letter law (the elements) of most of the common law torts from assault to malicious prosecution.These cards are followed with flash cards presenting short fact patterns designed to test your understanding of the specific issues concerning those black letter torts.They are very effective in helping the student to focus his or her thinking process.Informative, fun and immaginative.

Okay but you'll also want some study aids
Case books have a difficult time getting respect, because they have to include the opinions written by the different judges for the different cases.So, you're dealing with many, many writers, and unfortunately, judges aren't known for their entertaining, flowery prose.
Pretty Standard, Could Be Better
OK, it's a casebook.By definition it is just a bunch of cases thrown together to demonstrate various areas of the law.But lately there has been a new trend in books for 1Ls... analysis.Sure, this book has "Notes" sections between the cases, but they are little more than hypotheticals or one-line versions of even more cases.What about some essays?Talk about the logic behind the cases or maybe mix in some Law and Economics theory.As a generic casebook this is quite good, but adding a little more than just cases would be outstanding.

Best tort study guide
This book is a must have for any torts class.Forget Gilberts.This book is easy to read, straight forward, and gives examples on every topic it discusses.This book is the secondary text book in my torts class and was highly reccommended by my professor.If you are confused about anything, this book will make any complex theory easy to understand.

A really outstanding concise - but thorough hornbook
This is a really great book - it also is small ( less weight to carry in bookbag )- it has some short commings ( light on product liability ) - I used this with Epstein on Torts ( Aspen Hornbook ) Shapo on Torts ( West Hornbook ). You will find that all authors give some topics less attention than others - hence the plethora of hornbooks. Emmanuals & Gilberts are not so good.. Also - get the California Baby Bar Essay problems and answers - this is the best resource for practice exam taking. If you're lazy - get the Black Letter Law series book on torts for very concise rules - I used this as a rule book to capsulate the restatements so I could remember them for the test - ( got an A by the way .. )

Very useful
I'm currently a 2L and last year, I used a plethora of study aids. I found this book to be the most helpful for Torts class. The book explains the history behind the subjects and then what the substantive law is. It lays everything out very logically and is organized in a way that makes sense as well. While it doesn't have any comprehensive case summaries, if you truly want to understand the law of torts, you can't go wrong with this book. ... Read more

the worst casebook in all lawschool
I never encountered a less useful book during all my three long years at law school. Do youself a favor and buy a companion guide- nutshell or something.

Wishful thinking from Insurance Company Defense
Particularly when compared to the classic Prosser & Keaton, it is pretty clear that this text is geared toward tort "reform."There are long excerpts from law review articles written by the authors (how modest.) Conservative points of view are offered without "alternatives."The history of torts in the common law is rather distorted, particularly regarding strict liability which these authors present like it is a surprising new invention. The Products Restatement is overemphasized.And too many cases that come out aberrantly for the defense are included. If nothing else deters you from registering for the class that uses this book, consider how you would feel about a book called "Tax Law and Alternatives"or "Contract Law and Alternatives."This is law school folks.The alternatives are Med School and B-School.As long as you're in law school please try to find out what the law is.What somebody thinks it should be is all well and good, but it is not helpful to present "alternatives" as thought they are the current state of tort law.

1st Year Tort Law
You will most likely not buy this book for fun but because your 1st yearlaw professor tells you to.Most parts of the book are very dry and ittakes a long time to read it properly.The cases are good, standard Tortcases.The most helpfulexplanations can be found in the Notes andQuestions.While the book is dry bordering on boring, the Notes andQuestions at the end of each chapter will give you a much betterunderstanding of the information.Franklin and Rabin deal with physicalinjuries, non-physical harm, causation, trespass and liability.Read more

Good Basic Study Aid
I got this specifically to prepare for a midterm.This is a good basic study guide that will help you review key points that are in the cases if you have already done the critical reading on your own.Do not rely on the briefs--they were much shorter and did not include key information that our prof expected us to know in class.But in preparing for the midterm, this gave a great, basic overview.I would recommend this book if you feel like you have prepared yourself well, and need a basic overview of the material.

Great for Test Preparations
This book is extremely useful in preparing for a torts exam.In fact, the fact patterns on one of the questions was so great that my professor copied a large portion of it on our final exam question (the ethical side of that can be debated with Emory).

Helpful for learning the intentional torts
I entered Law School with a great deal of reluctance about any sort of commercial aids, especially flash cards.However, I have since discovered that some commercial aids are helpful with certain aspects of studying.These Torts flashcards have been valuable in helping me learn the elements of the various intentional torts, and spotting those torts in a hypothetical fact pattern.Read more
