Good coverage
Many people get al excited when they first try to get into the music business only to get shot down by the many intricate twists and turns involving all the legal aspects of running a record label. Mountains of forms and paperwork with no understanding slowly stack up on the producer's desk with no end in site. The situation is a cry for help and that help comes in the form of information, information obtained by reading this very interesting book that details all that is involved with law aspects of this kind.

A must-read.
This book is hella boring, but its definitely a necessity for anyone involved in music. It clears up a lot of questions, and a lot of things you might have never even thought about. Reading this book is a must if you want a grasp on legal concepts. I also suggest "101 Music Business Contracts" from Platinum Millenium.

Necessary book and usefull information!
this book isnt all its cracked up to be but has plenty of really good onformation and examples hide inside it. from how to negotiate a contract to many other laws and such this book covers mainly all of it. for a better less boring book that has plenty of examples in it i suggest the book by ty cohen "101 Music Business Contracts" you cant go wrong with that one! ... Required Reading for every real estate investor
This Third Edition is a great book for all real estate investors, whether yoa are an agent or not.In fact I think that is more valuable for the knowledgeable investor. The author is a CPA and real estate broker, who has written a marvelous book relating the Federal Tax code to real estate applications.There are chapters on Personal Residence Exclusion of $250,000/$500,000, Capital Gains, and Installment Sales.you will find detail in this book that is not present in any other tax book for real estate investors. This book is not meant to be read cover-to-cover.It would take a very patient and determined reader to go through every example and exception and tax detail.However, it is in these details that this book stands out.The language used is straightforward, the examples are well thought-out and realistic.Use the book more like a reference - go directly to the chapter related to your intended transaction; the chapters are quite self-contained. Not good for problem solving
I didn't like this textbook at all: on one hand, it is easy enough to read (with the simple examples throughout the chapters), on the other hand, it doesn't give you any guidance on how to do the homework problems, which totally differ from the chapter examples. Many of the most important rules were not in the body of the chapter but in a tiny footnotes, which you are constantly required to use in homework problems. Unless you have a great instructor, who can explain the steps for performing tax plannig cases and problems, I would not recommend this book for students who are not familiar with tax laws.

good introductory book for taxation
It is a good book to get started with some basic concepts and framework behind taxation. The book is well written and easy to read, even for people with very limited knowledge in taxation or accounting.

International taxation made understandable
This book makes international taxation easy to understand.
Sloppy and superficial
This book was disappointing for three reasons. First, there are computational errors in the chapter on the foreign tax credit. Second, there are errors of fact in the summary of Aiken v. Commissioner on page 239. The author confused the roles of the Bahamian corporation and the Honduran corporation or, at the very least, doesn't adequately explain the relation between the two in this case. The case is only 2 pages long, which makes this slip inexcusable. Third, the author is capable of better. He openned his career with one of the most powerful critiques of the "substance over form" doctrine. This book, by contrast, reads like something that was tossed off in a week. Moreover, the work is out of date. Four years is an eternity in this fast-changing area of the law. Conduits are old-hat. The "limitation-on-benefit" clauses included in every US treaty since 1979 has killed them. Where is the chapter on dual consolidated losses and other double-dip transactions? Why does the author cite cases from the 1920s when there are more recent guidance on point? Etc. etc.

Home Business Tax Deductions Review
This is a great book and well worth the money. It is well layed out and organized. I found it easy to find information. It is very detailed and covers all the basic information needed to get a small business started. The book is well written in that it explains everything in an easy to understand manner.

Very helpful and easy to use.
This book was very helpful and used language and a format that made it easy to follow and understand. I was left with some questions but mostly because of the unique qualities of my business.

The Written Rules and the Real Rules in Plain English
This book starts off with a very good description of what this book is all about: John and Jane both gross $50,000 a year. John gets $40,000 after taxes, Jane gets $45,000. The difference - John works for someone and goes into work. Jane works at home and gets to deduct her home office expenses.

Not great, could have covered more complex issues
Book covers all of the basic deductions. The J.K Lasser's small business taxes book is much better. Everything in this book is available on the IRS website. In fact, much of this book seems to be just a rewrite of the standard IRS tax guides.

Whoops !
I found a significant error in this book. Medigap policies were listed as both a valid medical deduction and an invalid medical deduction.
