need to use this edition which is completely updated
The only reason I am filing this review is that I want to correct a comment that is on this page (page reviewing the 8th edition of the book).An old review of the book has been placed on this page erroneously.It refers to the book's being out of date.It is referring to a much earlier edition of the book and was reviewing that edition of it.The book on this page is the latest edition, the 8th, published in August of 2004.I just used it myself this fall term of 2004, and will be teaching from it again this winter semester of 2005.It is completely updated.You will discover that if you buy earlier editions, also for sale on amazon, that they are out of date.I insist that my students use the 8th edition and made them return earlier ones. An out-of-date text is of little use in our classroom.

Out of Date!
The text does a superb job of covering real estate law essentials in Ohio, however, there due to recent (1996) legislation, two of the largest and most important chapters are out of date and must be re-written!!! UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE
Pipe's thesis on freedom and property is an in-depth evaluation of the effect that individual freedom to own private property has on the history, wealth and type of government of a country.Pipes relates a thorough and interesting concept that supports his opinion that the most desirable type government is brought about by freedom to own property.
Don't read in front of an open fire

Completely off-the-mark.
Instead of being titled "property and freedom," it should be titled "property and power." Pipes was a prominent old cold-war apologist for American capitalism, and you can tell that he is still trapped in his little world of false-dichotomy.

A decent guide to the UPC, be careful with it though
While this book is a little pricey, it is usefull to a degree.Unfortunately, the authors neglected to state in the title which UPC thisbook deals with, i.e. UPC (1969) or UPC (1990); the reader has to reallydig for that information in the "history" section laid out in theintroduction. Nor does this book do a particularly good job contrasting thedifferences between the 1969 version, which has been adopted by roughly 1/3of the states, and the 1990 version which has been adopted in Colorado. Inthe malpractice minefield that surrounds this area of the law, thisoversight seems rather remarkable.Read more

Buy the California Department of Real Estate Reference Book
This book is dated; the law changes at least one a month, sometimes more often. Your examiner doesn't live or work in the past or regard out-dated laws as useful tools for business. You will never know what is current, right or wrong when you trust a dated law book. NO. NO, NO, NO, GET SOMETHING NEWER.

Although this book is designed for clients, this is an excellent guide for lawyers who generally do not practice in the family law arena.

Provoking
Zoning has many critics, but none has stated the case for its abolition more clearly or forcefully than professor Siegan. A "must have" for Law Students interested in Property Law
As a First-year Law Student, I needed supplementary reading as I began preparing for my Property final.Zoning and Takings were especially confusing, until I read Siegan's "Property and Freedom."Sieganlays it out in plain, simple terms.He cites the leading cases dealingwith land use regulation, and relays the "black-letter law"applicable to different situations.Also included is Siegan'sinterpretation of the Constitution's Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.Ihighly recommend "Property and Freedom" to all Law Students andlegal minds alike.

A Study in Anti-Humanism

A thoughtful and moderate defense of democratic humanism.
...Ferry sees deep ecology (or what Americans would call deep ecology) as fundamentally at odds with democracy.Essentially, we may read his critique as claiming that, while democracy incorporates an open-ended dialogue over the good, deep ecology promotes a singular vision of what is good.Deep ecology is biocentric, placing humankind squarely in the midst of nature; democracy, in contrast, is humanistic.Deep ecology promotes a dissolution of the subject; democracy places the subject at its core. Accurate yet misleading
This book is an astute critique of some of the naive and even undemocratic tendencies in Deep Ecology. But it is unfair to associate Deep Ecology with fascism without pointing out that fascism has other political heirs far more powerful than any ecologist. Read more
