5-0 out of 5 stars All You Need to Pass Exam and have Abundant Knowledge
After studying in Illinois for two years, well I wouldn't call what I was doing STUDYING, I happened upon this book.I saw the light! It is so clear, user friendly and succinct.I feel that I owe the authors something. As you can see, I've crossed a couple borders over to Ohio. Thank goodness the publishers make many many state editions. Never too much of a good thing. The sixteenth edition of this book comes with a study CD-ROM which is fabulous. If you've "studied" real estate and have yet to pass your exam, just take the quizzes over and over until you achieve 90-100% accuracy. That will be soon and you will blaze through the state exam. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best literature I have read on Animal Rights and Animal Law
Gary Francione's thinking on animal rights is at its most refined in this book, which is a terrific blend of law and philosophy. The book is well-organized and easy to digest.Francione first diagnoses society as having "moral schizophrenia" when it comes to the treatment of nonhuman animals. On the one hand, we all accept that animals should not be subjected to "unnecessary" suffering, and should be treated "humanely."On the other hand, we support institutions - most notably the food industry - that cause the vast majority of unnecessary suffering and that do not treat animals humanely.Francione contends that this is because animals are treated as legal property; i.e., as things we own.Because animals are property, we treat them as resources - exclusively as means to human ends - that have no inherent value despite what we say about taking animal interests seriously. He then provides a powerful argument against such treatment - that it violates the "principle of equal consideration," which says that we should treat like cases alike. We already recognize that humans and nonhumans are alike in that both are sentient (in short, have an interest in their own lives).Although we do not protect humans against all suffering, we accord them the basic right not to be treated as resources.Francione argues that if humans are to make good on our claim to take animals seriously, we must also accord to them that one right, which requires the abolition of animal exploitation. This book concludes by rebuking some common objections to animal rights and the utilitarian approach popularized by Jeremy Bentham and Peter Singer. Also be sure to read the Appendix, which contains Francione's answers to twenty common questions he receives while lecturing on this subject.
5-0 out of 5 stars The most succinct and thorough animal rights book
The three most well known authors of 'animal rights' books are Tom Regan, Peter Singer and Gary Francione.5-0 out of 5 stars It caused me to become vegan (and I am grateful for it)
This is an amazing book.Eloquently written, well-thought out arguments, facts to back up their arguements. If everyone read this book, I don't see how our world would be the same.We would be unable to continue our misuse of animals without, at the vary least, a guilty conscience of knowing what we are doing is wrong.Highly recommend to anyone whether or not you already believe in animal rights. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Towards a European Civil Code
On its first appearance in 1994, Towards a European Civil Code ushered in the new field of European private law. After its publication a great number of major events took place. To mention only a few: both the UNIDROIT and the Lando Commission published their Principles; Markesinis published a book on the gradual convergence of common law and civil law in Europe, Ktz and Von Bar published the first book on European Contract Law, and European Tort Law, respectively; the Trento Project on The Common Core of Private Law in Europe was commenced by Mattei and Bussani; and an international conference was held in The Hague under the very title Towards a European Civil Code . These events, and indeed many others, convinced us that the idea of a commonly held civil code for Europe is not as bold as it might have seemed when we started preparations for the first edition of this book in 1991. European private law has become an established field of research in which many eminent scholars from all over Europe are involved. Courses on European private law are taught at several European universities. All these events - and the commercial success of the first edition - call for this second edition, which differs from the first in several respects. First, we have added several new subjects, which have increased the number of chapters from 23 to 36. Secondly, we no longer asked the contributors to discuss the feasibility of a European civil code - except for a few chapters which deal with completely new topics - but instead to directly address the possible content of common rules. Thirdly, we are glad to welcome some new authors for some of the subjects already included in the first edition. Finally, all chapters have been updated.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!
I am a Harvard law student and I went CRAZY preparing for exams.(as did everyone else) but a wise 3L gave me some advice that saved my life. Here is goes: Use Gilbert's on Prop to learn the black letter law of the cases you will be studying. Then use West Group's High Court Summaries to figure out in simpler terms your case.Read your cases. After you learn each subject, do the problems in Examples and Explanations to really apply your knowledge. At this point you may have lost sight of the forest for all the trees...Then for the week before the exam, this nutshell will become your bible. It is clear, concise, and presents difficult but very clarifying examples of applications of laws after each law you learn. It was the perfect compact tool to "bring you back into the forest."I got an A in property (am VERY proud of myself) and it was because of this book.I highly suggest you buy. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good
They are good tapes. They go over all of the issues, and clearly and concisely state the rules you need to know. Be aware that she has an unusual style though. For example, she raps like six lines from the Shaggy song "it wasn't me" when describing quit claim deeds. Lots of other references to and imitations of characters in pop culture. As another example, she tells a story in which she compares law school to shoveling manure. Her point being that you should be positive because if you're shoveling manure, there must be a pony somewhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucid and Informative
As a newcomer to real estate it is important to get the basics down before engaging in the process. To borrow a builders metaphor -- you need to start with a solid foundation and then build up from there... Jack Harris's Barron's real estate handbook is a wonderful and lucid introduction from within which one gets information to build from a solid foundation. One of the more valuable aspects of the book is how Harris brings everything down to its most basic component and if for that alone it is worth the money.Computations are broken down to their most basic and elemental components, house type as well as engineering terms and real estate jargon are simplified but not simplistic, and terms are well explained.A valuable tool for every potential or current homeowner.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginner!
This is a great book to have a available for the beginner real estate agent. This book was essential in assistaing me in passing the Real Estate License Exam the first time. It allowed me access to tons of terms whicharen't readily available in other books. Now that i am just getting startedin selling real estate it has become a life saver when I run across terms Idon't know. Sure, it's not something you would read next to the fireplace, but it's a nice reference to have sitting in the office! ... Read more
