Outstanding, explains the basics, then drill's down
Dean is a great writer, his background positions him well for this book.He is a family man doing what many need to do, start a small business and keep food on the table and insurance laying in wait. I am using this book for a master's level personnel law course.It coversall the topics quite thoroughly.It might be useful as a quick selectivereference tool for HR administrators unfamiliar with one or more of thespecialty areas.Some chapters (such as the one on benefits and the one onpensions) might benefit from another look at organization of the material.However, most of the information is accurate, if necessarily streamlinedin many areas.Since personnel law now covers several deeply specializedareas, this is not surprising.Read more

Not just for lawyers
I am a physician who tested out of all college English to focus on science. Writing chart notes, scientific articles, or even parts of textbooks does not prepare one for the type of writing one must do when performing legal work.
Shockingly good

social security disability and the legal professional
Having represented many people in their appeal process for disability benefits for the past 13 years, I have found that understanding the Administration's maze of regulations is full time effort.After a careful review of this book, it is my opinion that it will provide invaluable information for a newcomer to Social Security Representation as well as otherswith more experience. Wolf and Prozcek did a very good job and find myself referring to this book several times each week,to make certain that I did not leave "a stone un-turned'.It is my understanding that Wolfe is an Administrative Law Judge(ALJ) and Mrs. Proszek was a senior staff attorney with the Office of Hearings and Appeals-SSA, which adds to the credibility of this book.They write the decisions.Therefore, they covered in the book exactly what they would expect of a representative to provide for there client during the appeal process and at a hearing.It is a prudent practice to fully develop your case before you step in the hearing room, follow the steps in the book and you will make a better impression on the ALJ andprovide your best effort for your client.I wish that I had a copy of this book 13 years ago! ... Polemic, but good
When you read this book, keep in mind Bork sold out to the populist critics of Microsoft for a fee, and repudiated this book.Which proves that economic theory is great at the macro level, but, at the micro level, game theory beats out. Misinterpreting the word "efficiency"
I have enjoyed other writing by Judge Bork.Unfortunately, in "The Antitrust Paradox" Judge Bork misinterprets the word "efficiency" as it applies to antitrust law.U.S. antitrust law was designed to advance Pareto or economic efficiency, not business or productive efficiency.That misunderstanding leads Judge Bork to propose, in essence, the following Carrollian extended syllogism: Antitrust or Maximization of Consumer Welfare
In the Antitrust Paradox, Judge Robert H. Bork gives a fascinating, though demanding, review of the most important antitrust issues in the United States. The central, pragmatic thesis of Bork is maximization of consumer welfare (also called economic efficiency) and not the protection of small businesses in addressing any antitrust issue. Unfortunately, the legislative, executive and judiciary branches of power as well as the practicing bar have not always shown consistency in making, interpreting, and applying antitrust rules. The main reason for their shared sub-optimal performance in that area is the too-often absence of a rudimentary understanding of market economics according to Bork. As a practicing marketer and lawyer, I agree with his observation. Law and economics are two complementary disciplines that should be taught together as part of the academic requirements or at least whose teaching could be made optional at the undergraduate level in our universities. ... Excellent overview, but only useful in conjunction with casebook, not instead of it
This book is a well-written, interesting, sometimes chatty look at the wonderful world of Business Associations. It conformed well to the topics in my BA class; I think the professor was inspired by it in some of his powerpoints. It conformed poorly, however, to our casebook, Klein's own. This was surprising to me. Therefore, this book is most useful as a big picture giver, not a resource to prepare for exams or to get cliffs notes on cases. Nonetheless, I recommend it. You'll feel like you understand BA after you read it. Watch out though, because, for the reasons stated above, this feeling will probably not correlate to exam success unless you are diligent with the casebook.

Could be a lot better
This book is geared towards people in the legal profession. Most of the info contained in the first 3 chapters a business person would not need to know; or if they did they, would probably have a corporate attorney that could tell them. The book does a very poor job at explaining some of the financial examples. I have an MBA, and I still got lost at times! This book should be considered 2 books in one volume (first 3 chapters for the legal profession, last 2 chapters for the business world). ... Read more
