high school level textbook
I suppose nobody is going to buy this book unless they have to, so there is not much point to reviewing it.My girlfriend took the course. I looked at the book and was disappointed.Paralegal classes are generally at least junior college level.Except for the cases, statutes, etc., the book is on a high school civics textbook level, sort of patronizing, as if the author expected junior college students to be dumb.It's superficial, not particularly informative, and on some points, inaccurate. I'm not impressed.

A Former Student Speaks
I read this book for a class I took from Joanne Hames, one of the authors, at the paralegal program I attend.I found the book very well- organized and practical.The subject matter not only covers all the basics, but italso equips the paralegal to succeed in today's high-tech law office. Also, the "Ethical Choices" and "Paralegals on the Job"sections in each chapter make the book quite dynamic.The authors of thisbook are experienced attorneys who know the law and are abreast ofeverything relevant to the modern paralegal.

All introductory books should be like this.
Both informative (covering the "high points" or notable and interesting aspects of law) and well-written so you can read it straight through and get a lot out of it.The best starting point I have seen forbeginning to learn about law. ... Read more

Great Book No serial number for online part
I bought this book from Amazon recently, they have been great about getting it resolved but from what we can tell after having replaced twice the serial number that they mention on the book is not included in any of the books Amazon has in stock.

A digest of rules too broad for serious instructional use.
The 5th Edition of "Business Law Today, The Essentials" is a slightly pared down, paper-bound version of the authors' hard back college text "Business Law Today, - Text and Summarized Cases, Legal, Ethical,Regulatory and International Environment."Read more

One of the Best Business Law Texts
I have been teaching Business Law for 12 years and I practiced law as a trial attorney for about 20 years before that.During this time, I have reviewed and used many different text and without a doubt, this is thebest.Specifically, the authors make this subject of Business Lawextremely interesting through this very readable text. It uses greatexamples and cases.In many places, the authors use a light-heartedapproach in covering the subject which makes this text that much morereadable. I also find the ancillary material excellent.

Comprehensive, student friendly, written in people language.
Began using this text over two years ago.I switched from a subject solid, albeit legally intimidating test that I had used for over seven years.Immediately I saw positive results: students were reading withgreater comprehension, and their class participation increased.Recently Ihad the text customized for use in my two course sequence in business law. The customized paperback books maximize the full potential of the text formy students, as well as providing some economic benefit for the student. Combined an indepth analysis of legal issues with perceptive on point illustrative examples. Very helpful for my high school class.

Colorful but lacking in substance
This book should please those who are looking for a colorful book to keep high school students interested in what many might consider a dry subject.It covers a host of topics and issues and will lead students to think. However, it is marred by its appalling ignorance of economic analysis.The worst example is in Chapter 2 where it offers up some comments on the "idea of profit maximization".Any student who has had a principles course in economics is likely to see these comments for what they are, namely the kind of rhetoric one would expect from someone manning one of the ubiquitous anti-globalization tables at a large university. ... ABA Guide to Workplace Law
This order was received earlier than expected and has proved a useful reference guide.

Issues In The Workplace
The issues covered include the Family and Medical Leave Act, harassment and discrimination, drug testing, the Americans with Disabilities Act, unions, worker's compensation, dress codes and worker's rights.
Better than most other offerings
First, remember that the book was written in 1997. It's dated.It also appears to have been organized by dropping the sections together from around ten feet above the pages while standing in a strong wind - that is to say, the format and sequencingis not what it could be these days.

good reference
This is a great book to own if you have or are thinking of starting an LLC. I've used many of the forms. The layout of the book is well-organized. Forms are easy to find on the CD. The tips in the book are very useful. I reference this book often. Highly recommended.

Good Resource Guide
This book provided me with the essential information an LLC owner needs to avoid trouble with the IRS and the courts. This book contains a lot of practicle information, useful forms and many real life examples. It covers meeting minutes preparation, record keeping and the updated Federal 2003 Tax Act. This is a must book for any LLC owner!

Can't imagine many people need this book.
Generally I have to say I was a little disappointed with this book. To be fair it lives up to its claims that it will basically help you run LLC meetings and provides forms for most basic LLC functions EXCEPT creating one.It provides no business advice and no tax advice to help with serious beginning operation issues. I was hoping for a book that would offer advice and successful strategies for managing money in the LLC and discuss tax strategies and so on. Advice, that would help me operate an LLC with the legal documents to back up the advice. That is not what this book contains.Read more
