Plenty of books impart the basics of how to work independently - but too few include all the legal tips, tricks and traps involved. Record-keeping processes are simplified with sample logs and entry advice, chapters on how the IRS defines an independent contractor versus a paid employee are essential keys to keeping independent status, and advice on pricing and insurance offer key strategy-oriented tips and approaches. A 'must' for any who would work independently.
Great straghtforward information and advice
I recently a started an S corp for my software contracting.The book is helpful and worth the price.It won't answer EVERY question you will have, but you probably should talk to a CPA for those anyway.

Another Nolo Press Winner
My husband is an independent photographer, so the Nolo Press books are great for him, geared as they are to all those wishing to handle all the paperwork for themselves, instead of the usual array of lawyers, accountants, etc.He keeps it as a reference book and can easily turn to whatever subject he needs more information on.Well-written and easy to understand, as are all Nolo books, these books are wonderful to review periodically. ... Hot Field, Hot Book!
Call this book Release 2.0!It's a fine upgrade from Prof. Burgunder's prior release. Stay Current on Technology & The Law!
A splendid piece of work!It is timely and up-to-date with all the most recent & important technological law issues, including the Internet.It contains sophisticated analysis, but in an easy-to-read style.I particularly liked how the Internet is treated in the context of associatedtechnology issues, rather than segregated as a separate unrelated universe. A big plus is the web site connected to the book where Burgunder providesupdates about current issues --- such as Napster, Internetlinking, and the antitrust case against Microsoft.This will keep thematerial fresh for years to come!I recommend this book to anyone whowants to learn about technology law.It's a winner!

I bought this book because it was the most recent publication purporting to explain technology law.Although I thought the price was a little high, I sure got more than my money's worth.This book really covers the mostimportant and interesting topics in technology law, and it does soextremely well.Biotech, Internet patents, privacy, obscenity, copyrights,trade secrets, click-wraps, domain names, design protection, strategies forcomputer programs, the Microsoft Antitrust case-you name it and this bookhas got it.The book also deals with international matters, such as theWTO, and international strategic considerations.The court case examplesare well selected, and the editing is superb.They are not to short to betrivial, but not to long either.I also visited the Web site mentioned onthe back cover.It already has a bunch of helpful updates, including theNapster and DVD encryption (DeCSS) debates, among many others.This reallyis a great book.I recommend it highly. ... A wonderful book for applying Law everyday.
This is a wonderful book because of the way it is organized from the definitions of law and how American government works in terms of business dealings and legal relationships with others. I'm impressed at the margin headings of each chapter and a thorough definitions of each law which is easy for the reader to read and understand. An additional pro of this book is the numerous case examples given within each chapter and towards the end. Each case is interesting and useful once you take a thorough look through it. This book is very in depth and yet still finds ways to make the subject interesting. I was amazed at how much was included between this soft cover edition. Very Helpful Product
This is the legal thesaurus that all my law professors suggested.So far it has been very helpful in research and writing.

Relied on daily at work
Next to case law, I find Burton's Legal Thesaurus indispensible in writing appellate briefs. I only wish it were available in a downloadable form for use with my word processing program.

Good for beginners, but likely to upset anyone else!
If you're buying this book for yourself, spare yourself the headache.It is certainly not of any academic value, and considering what I've read so far, it does even appear to be a business law book.The book chronicles very simple and basic legal matters, and presents these topics in such a way, someone interested in a thorough discussion of them would likely become upset.

Great book!
The class was great and the book was great. Give you real life cases so you understand material. Gives you information on how the US compares to other nations. Also has funny facts and snippits of funny cases. Highly recommend, can learn a lot!

Economics and the Law
Nice introduction, very clear. I think that this is the first steep in this field. After reading this book I highly recommend Cooter's book Law and Economics (3rd Edition).

a very good introduction
The authors know what they are talking about. The book is a survey of the main strains of law and economics theories and approaches. It provides examples of each theory and that can be illuminating. However, more examples could have given a better sense to the differences across the several theories. The notes are well written and provide all you need for further reading.

Useful introduction to an important field
What is law & economics? It is the school of jurisprudence in which the tools of microeconomic analysis are used to study law. Those of us who practice economic analysis have a deceptively simple task. We translate some legal doctrine into economic terms. We then apply a few basic principles -- cost-benefit analysis, collective action theory, decision-making under uncertainty, risk aversion, and the like -- to the problem. All Around Good Introduction To Business Law
Well written book that provides a good introduction into business law principles. Outlines complex concepts with case law that makes it easy to understand. A reccomended read for the pre-law students as well as a valuable reference for business owners.

Condition of Text
The text was torn. The cover was horrible and it had so much writing in it. It was the wrong text. I typed the IBSN, why would that book show up. I was very disappointed in this purchase.

Business Law Explained for the Intelligent Layman
I was given this book for free by someone who had used it for a college course and didn't want it. I couldn't believe the person wanted to throw it away. This book tells all the basics of business law. If you don't know anything about business law, read it. It is a good book for beginners. I know I will keep it for a reference book for a long time. I am starting my own business and I refer to it all the time. Not only does the book tells just about everything you need to know about business law, it gives actual descriptions of court cases to illustrate the points of each section.
