Not too bad for a casebook
The structure could be better, but I do like how the book explains the rationales and policies in the notes between cases; it makes the cases themselves much more cognizable if you read the notes after the cases first.

this book is maddening. it zigzags through material in an incomprehensible fashion. you have to work so hard to see which cases go together and how they go together. it certainly doesn't make it easy. Quite possibly the WORST textbook EVER
If this book shows up on the syllabus for your Corporations class, run.There has never been a worse textbook published in the history of academia.The typos are beyond unacceptable. The flow of material makes no sense, and there is no commentary from the authors in between sections to explain why the authors seem to think the topics should be discussed in that order.The cases are incredibly badly edited.One example, out of too many to even count, is in the first case on the law of corporate directors' duty of care. The court's holding about which defendants should be liable is left in, but none of the facts about any of those defendants are in the book at all.Definitions are non-existent, and in the rare places where the authors do try to actually explain concepts, the text is full of errors and the explanations are badly written.Robert Hamilton and Jonathan Macey (the authors) should be ashamed of themselves. You'd be better off typing "business" into Westlaw or Lexis and learning it yourself. ... Read more

Unbelievably Brilliant!
I don't give top ratings lightly, but this book is breathtakingly well written and carries a powerful message. Any given chapter is a great eye-opener to how our society works and what's REALLY going on in the world around us... with all the distractions stripped away.
Maybe good for beginners
If you haven't read any other critiques of corporate power, this isn't a bad introduction. It covers the basics adequately (deregulation, privatization, monopolies, anti-unionism), but you have to wade through prose like "The language of responsibility -- rather than accountability or democracy -- reflects the depoliticizing of a movement that claims to speak for empowerment." For more experienced readers, I would recommend "The Corporation" by Joel Bakan.

Verbose unstructured rambling
The essence of the book is "corporations behave badly".I happen to agree but I don't need 339 pages to tell me this.I was hoping to learn something here.I was hoping for some history of how corporations developed.Nothing of the kind.Just a comparison to the gilded age (late 1800s) repeated throughout the book that is obvious to anyone who knows American history.Those liberals who love to read long winded tirades that support their point of view may enjoy this book.But if you aren't a liberal or if you are a liberal with a brain, this book will bore you to tears. ...
