3-0 out of 5 stars Tax Equalization for school funding does not work
Equalization tax policies directly forcing tax payers redistribute educational monies equally on education.Equalization does not work. It's a socialistic virus starting in Wilmington, Delaware and moved to Maine in 1970 and eventually hit Texas. The most important question facing tax payers is can equality of education spending buy equal performance? The truth suggests the more money pumped into a school has no direct correlation in producing better students.Equalization did not improve test scores.Force distribution of wealth never works.
5-0 out of 5 stars Government Has No Money That It Doesn't Confiscate
I just don't understand how it's considered "greedy" for me to want to keep all of the money I have worked to earn -- but it's somehow NOT greedy and/or lazy and/or selfish for someone to want the government to provide his health care (or pay him when he is unemployed) with money that has simply been confiscated from some other person who performed the work to earn that money. Can somebody explain that to me, please?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent "How To" advice
Using only the material contained in this book I negotiated (without the expense of lawyer, accountant or ex-IRS official) a fifteen cents on the dollar settlement of a past due account with the IRS. I found the adviceclear and easy to follow. Bottom line: if you are having problems with theIRS this book is definitely worth buying and reading. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic guide - helps understand the vocabulary of taxes
First, this is NOT a tax manual. This small and colorful book is designed as a general introduction to the process and vocabulary of the various taxes we all pay under varying conditions of income and investment. It is not a current guide to assist you in tax planning.1-0 out of 5 stars OBSOLETE
Tax laws have changed dramatically since 1995. A lot of the information in this book is irrelevant now. Does not include infomation on newer tax credits.4-0 out of 5 stars Taxes in brief for beginners

I have learned to be skeptical of financial privacy and asset protection books, most promise far more than they deliver--this book is no exception.

4-0 out of 5 stars The book is okay
The author presents his opinion that paying taxes is bad, and giving to charity is good. There are some techinical details on tax planning, but they seem to be too complex for the beginner and too easy for people who know about tax planning already. If you have a novice understanding of tax planning already, this could be a good book to fill in any gaps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Place to Start
The book is for people who are new to the concept of Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) or need a quick refresher. The book does an excellent job describing the fundamentals of CRT and gives numerous hypotheticalscenarios in which this method of financial planning would be beneficial. Although rather simplified, each scenario is illustrated with $ comparisonsof Assets, Cash flow, and Estate tax, with and without the use of CRT. (This comparison got a bit tedious towards the end.) The book also containsa short glossary for reference. As with any beginner book on a highlytechnical and complex subject, the reader is left with more questions thanhe/she had started with.A good beginner book answers most of thequestions that the reader started with and elevates the reader's curiosityto seek answers to a more refined set of questions. I believe this bookhas been successful in accomplishing that. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated
While this book might have represented the cutting-edge in 1997, it is seriously outdated today. For instance, the book talks about offshore trusts as the penultimate asset protection tool, which was of course disproved in the Anderson case in 1999 and the Lawrence case in 2000, where in both cases those who set up offshore trusts went to jail. This book is good for the archives, and not much else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book On Asset Protection
Arnold Goldstein's classic book Asset Protection Secrets is probably one of the few asset protection books you will find that actually gives you your money's worth.4-0 out of 5 stars What is the right answer?
I have read several books on this topic; none of them provided me with the "right set of answers" to my questions. Everyone of these book authors recommends their "favorite" legal structures for asset protection, and all of these protection schemes have "holes". Furthermore some of these schemes come at a steep price: on the one hand you may give up considerable amount of control over your investments, and on the other hand it (most likely) will cost you lots of time and money to set these structures up. What I like about this book is, that Mr. Goldstein presents this difficult topic from a neutral point of view - not recommending one legal structure over the other one. His discussions of the various asset protection vehicles are "to the point" - yet complete. What I miss is a more thorough discussion of the risk management side of asset protection. If you are in the middle class and you are on a limited budget, risk management is they key to (reasonable) asset protection. Let's face it, myself and probably most of us are better served with high liability insurance than with legal structures of the "rich and famous". Nevertheless, if you want to learn about the world of asset protection, Mr. Goldstein's book is a great reference! It will provide you with all the basic knowledge to discuss your case with an experienced asset protection lawyer. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Might be so basic it's not worth your time
If you're looking for solid guidance as an executer or fiduciary, go elsewhere."How to Settle and Estate" is the better choice. The handbook gives a scant 7 pages of practical advice on what to do if/whensomeone close has died. Things like: Contact the funeral director, determine your parent's wishes concerning the funeral, ascertain whetheryour parents have already paid for their funeral, notify friends, locatethe original copy of the will - - you get the idea.I was verydisappointed especially given the glowing reviews provided by others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rare find.
Most books on estates and trusts are simply clueless in dealing with anything except for numbers and laws, as seen from the perspective of someone setting up a trust.5-0 out of 5 stars Good presentation of "Plus's & Negatives" of alternatives
This book is very well written and organized without being "over legal." My recently deceased Father, who was an attorney speciallizing in Estate Law, always down-played Trusts (although he set one up forhimself.) From this writing, I now see why they are not for everyone. Iplan to purchase a copy for each of my siblings, as our Mother ages, tokeep us on the same "wavelength." ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT A BAD BOOK
I have had my fair share of speeding tickets. With the help of this book and my favorite, the Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace, I beat almost every ticket in court. Both books help prepare you for court. The Educated Guide even has a chapter on how to avoid getting stopped and ticketed in the first place. Also, the author Mr. Wallace is a former cop and he even returned my phone call to him, imagine that! These insider information books really help people fight back at a greedy system designed JUST to make money for the governments.2-0 out of 5 stars The Educated Guide Is Better...It's Written By A Cop!
I got another speeding ticket in Connecticut, with the help of the Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets, How To Beat & Avoid Them written by an ex cop, Richard Wallace, I beat my case in a court in Connecticut. I loved the book, it really helped. Well, I got another speeding ticket, and was checking around on Amazon.com for other books on speeding tickets, and found the Traffic Ticket Defense, it looked interesting, so I bought it. The book is OK, but not great. It contains alot of info but alot of comes from common sense stuff, but the book is not as good as the Educated Guide, which is down to earth, written by a cop who tells all, it is well written, full of useful information. I just believe an excop over other people. Mr. Wallace has a website, and even returned my phone call. He has a toll free number. Anyway, enough free advertising for Mr. Wallace's book. The Traffic Ticket Defense book should be bought AFTER you buy the Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets. Together, they work well and you will win in court.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for it's intended purpose - winning in court!!
This book is great for it's intended purpose - winning your case in court. In fact, that's what the ENTIRE book is devoted to.Unlike similar books, there's no information about different types of radar/laser devices or getting out of your ticket when you get pulled over, but there is LOTS of info on how to prepare and win your case once your court date rolls around. ...
