I bought this guide for myself, then my mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away within seven months.The workbook pages really helped me to know what questions to bring up with her.It saved a lot of time andaggravation after she passed away when I wasn't emotionally able to handletough decisions.There are so many extra tips in this workbook; it ishelpful even if you are going on vacation and someone needs to housesit. This workbook is helpful if you're 25 or 75.I highly recommend it.

This books covers everything and is very comprehensive. A must have as a read or simply a reference for the Star Spangled Canadian.

You'll ease your stress if you use the advice in this book
Jim and John have a wonderful way of making you feel like you're sitting down at your kitchen table with a bankruptcy attorney who only has your best interests at heart. They don't pull any punches, and sometimes what they tell you isn't what you really want to hear, but you know they're giving you solid advice. Your anxiety level will plummet if you are thinking of filing bankruptcy and are looking for someone to hold your hand through the process.

Very solid, down-to-earth advice, and they make you feel a little bit better about yourself.

Great advice for doctors and others.
As an attorney, I enjoyed reading this practical easy to read guide to asset protection.I have recommended this book to a number of my clients.
Shallow and Disappointing
I had high expectations for this book, to which it didn't live up. I presumed, incorrectly, that Mr. Shenkman had specific experience as an attorney practicing in this area. My impression is that his writings on asset protection appear to be just a summarization of the writings of others, with little or no original thought. About halfway through this book, puzzled by its consistent shallowness, I finally did some research on Mr. Shenkman and found out that he seemingly just quickly cranks out a new book every time some topic heats up, such as his "How to Buy a House with No (or Little) Money Down". ... Protecting Your Finances
This book is a must read! The book covers so many topics such as: writing a will, protecting your business, protecting your assets, provides sample documents, and much more. This book has definitely expanded my knowledge about protecting my finances. I assumed these techniques were only available to wealthy people. I was so engrossed in the book I read it in two days. I have recommended this book to all of my friends and family.

A Must Read to Protect Your Family & Your Financial Future
This is a simple, easy to read book about how to protect your money, savings and your assets.It reads like a novel with good stories, yet it has information like a reference book that you can easily refer to over and over again.I had never heard of the authors before, but when I found out it was a Time/Warner Book of the Month Club Selection, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did.You will be too.

Detailed!!
Helps you to understand the complexity of marital debt/assets.In doing post-divorce mediation, the aftermath is worse than the initial filing of the divorce petition.Here we have two consenting adults reigning over the financial thrones of the other.Leaving their financial future in the hands of someone bitter will only gain negative results.What makes one think the court order will enforce resolution? The other party may not feel the urge to pay out of malice.This can lead to foreclosures, collection calls, garnishments, jdgements/liens, (ALL in YOUR name!!!) and frustration.

Disappointing but useful
This book was written by two distinguished experts on tax policy and reviews the development of the campaign to end estate taxes at the federal level.In many cases it is quite informative.But compared to Jeffrey Birnbaum's book on the development of tax policy in Congress (Showdown at Guccci Gulch) is it quite light in a couple of areas.
Too partisan to prove useful
As a tax attorney, I was excited to purchase this book and get a non-partisan, in-depth look at what was going on with respect to the estate tax.Michael Graetz has a stellar reputation as a law professor, so I was doubly excited.
Who knew?
My grandfather was born in the rural South in 1885. With little help from family and no help from his government, he put himself through college. He married, became a dairy farmer and sired seven children which he brought up and thoroughly educated (all seven went to college)during the Great Depression. Of those seven children, his four sons all became his working partners and one son lived and raised his own family on the family farm.

Very Thorough and Detailed Book
This is a good book to help prepare someone with an estate plan before consulting a lawyer. Depending on your situation, it might be easier to use this book and some estate planning software instead of paying a lot of money for an attorney.I think the key here is that this book will help motivate people to TAKE CARE OF YOUR ESTATE!After you read some of the stories that occur when people fail to do this you will be glad you have purchased this book.It certainly is not a substitute for an attorney, but it will help make the layperson ask those critcal questions as to what should be done with their estate after they are deceased.It talks about avoiding estate taxes, setting up partnerships, trusts, financial planning, life insurance, and gives some referrals to professionals in each one of these fields. ... Protect Your Estate - by Esperti, et al
I bought the previous edition of this book several years ago and learned so much from its straight forward, well-organized and clear presentation (I am neither an accountant nor a tax person) that co-workers and family members began quizzing me on matters of estate planning.This book allowed me to answer many questions and also enabled me to have a very intelligent conversation with a professional estate planner. I consider the book such a valuable resource that I just purchased the updated edition.
