5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference Book for Small/Home Based Business Owners
It is rare to find a great tax book like this - easy to read, understand and implement, with all authorities referenced. The information in this book is literally worth a ton if taken to heart and implemented - especially for small and home based business owners. A dollar saved by reducing taxes is worth much more of income generated. Pay the price of learning and implementing the concepts laid out in this book - I am confident you will be glad you did. Highly Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth The Investment
This is one of four books on purchasing and managing real estate that we purchased.Although pricey due to availability in hardback only, for those such as us that are first time buyers of commercial real estate, the data, clarity of thought and information will likely prove very valuable. It is a quick read that provides the basic tenets of buying multi-family units. The financial elements are fairly simplistic; hence we purchased an additional book that delves into the intricacies of purchasing and financing multi-family units.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best I've Found Thus Far
Of the three books I've read on investing in multi-family real estate, this is by far the best. The author does a good job of walking the reader through from start to finish the purchase of a representative property. In the appendix the author provides several very easy to understand and useful financial analysis templates which can easily be recreated in Excel or any other spreadsheet program.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Real Estate Recipe: Make Millions by Buying Small Apartment Properties in Your Spare Time
I found the book to be a very concise (Nuts & Bolts) and logical approach to buying small apartment properties from someone who obviously knows the process. He gives you all the tools needed to anaylise, purchase, manage and project profits. The forms in the book are easily accessed at the publisher's website www.dnapress.com for downloading. I'm closing on a 7 unit property in less than 2 weeks. Thanks Brian! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Diane Kennedy's the Bomb!
I heard her speak at a recent eBay convention & she's a great speaker with great ideas. The book is a must-read for anyone contemplating selling on eBay.She is a professional with good, sound advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, lots of good tips!
Very useful for online sellers and anyone getting some kind of income from casual ebay sales or any other comparable site. Lots of money saving tax tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5+++++ stars!!!!
Even if you don't have an Ebay business, this book is so informative for those of us who just don't understand the behind-the-business scene. My husband and I have had a business for years and FINALLY, I now understand what the heck an "S" corporation is and why we have one, as opposed to the "c" corp that we used to have. I HIGHLY recommend this book to ANYONE starting a small business, whether its Ebay or not. Thanks to the authors for putting it in plain English. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars You would be a dummie to buy this book.
Open this book and you will see that it is formatted and reads like every other textbook you have read since college. The writing makes no attempt to reduce the complexities of the subject. It simply reiterates all the language you never understood in the first place. As the author of "Everything A Baby Boomer Should Know -- An Insider's Guide to Estate Planning," I suggest you compare my book which honestly and easily explains the tools of the probate system, to this book which is impossible to understand if you have no background on the subject.

3-0 out of 5 stars Its okay but I wanted more-specific information
This book gives you general information about Estate Planning but It left me wanting more. I was surprise that it didnt mention anything about AB trust. I wish it would have given the upside and donwnside to each options of wills or trust.
2-0 out of 5 stars They weren't kidding when they said "for dummies"
I didn't find this book helpful at all.It just barely skims the surface, and usually concludes with "make sure you talk to your accountant/attorney/estate planner."If I intended to talk to all those folks, I wouldn't waste my time reading this book in the first place. Most of what this book covers could be learned by snooping around the web - and in many cases you can learn more that way.It defines the terminology, but even that is often inadequate. I suggest you check this book out from the local library, and then if you find it to be a useful resource go ahead and buy it.I wish I had done that - I don't feel this book has enough information to really qualify as a reference book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 'The' book to read on the issue of the role of corporate power in the US
Disclaimer: I'm a bit more than half through the book - and ready to comment on it.
4-0 out of 5 stars informative evaluation of a business dominated culture
A very good evaluation how business dominates govenments, now and in the past. It illustrates how everyone must be vigilent if an individual is to be of any importance in any society. The informed reader will find the book somewhat redundant, because the author tends repeat examples after he has clearly made his point.

4-0 out of 5 stars Can't laugh away world spinning out of control
While some of the material here is not unique to Hartmann, it's the sort of thing you don't read out in the open.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for small business deductions!
This book is absolutely terrific (as are most NOLO books).the author details what is deductable for the different forms of businesses, what records are required, how to record those records and specifics for all the major topics of deductable expenses. All in all if you walked in to see an accountant day one of starting out your business he should just hand you this book have you read and then answer any questions that you need further clarification on.This is a great reference if you are unsure how a specific deduction works and a very quick and easy read. This should be on every business owners shelf!

5-0 out of 5 stars J Vasquez
This book is amazing. It's hard to set it down.Well organized with clear explanations and examples.A must for new business owners. It will help you steer away from IRS audits. The capital expense section will show you how to deduct the cost of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Explaining the Rules, Both Written and Understood
The income tax laws of the United States clearly allow you do deduct business expenses. But from this basic rule has come an incredibly complex set of subsidiary rules that further define what are legitimate deductions and what are not allowed.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Primer on Trusts

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book for new practitioners!
I have only purchased this book tonight, yet not on Amazon.com.I actually went to Borders and paid full price.Reason being, I could not wait to get my hands on a reference book to help me conceptualize projects and cases that I presently deal with at work as a new estate and tax planning attorney.I hear about ABC trusts, GST trusts, Living Trusts, just to name a few, every day.Yet I don't have the slightest idea about the particular mechanics of many of these valuable estate planning and tax saving tools.
2-0 out of 5 stars Written in Legaleeze...got a better book for you
Read "Beyond the Grave, The Right Way and the Wrong Way of Leaving Money to Your Children" instead of this book or before you read this book.I bought both and gave up on this book after a couple chapters.Itwas a struggle to get through.Very dry, written like a tech manual, areal sleeper.Go read the reviews on Amazon for Condon's book beforedeciding which one to order.Trust me, you want the other book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of a large number of topics
This book covers a lot of ground. As other reviews have pointed out, one consequence of this is that there is not very much detail on the implementation of most strategies. If you decide that you are interested in implementing a particular specific strategy you will likely need to look elsewhere for full details about that strategy.
1-0 out of 5 stars A sales pitch that lacks any in-depth info.
The book is poorly written and largely a superficial analysis of the issues. It was not until after the first 150 pages that I first learned something. This is clearly writen as a marketing piece for the authors. And, when you do go to the website where various additional promised information is supposed to be, it is not there.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy and A Must Read
I am a 49 year old executive and have been doing retirement planning in earnest for at least a decade.I have read many books on retirement, wealth, and other personal financial topics. Most of those have either been overly general, too mathematical, or have been far too narrow in scope. This book is written in clear, concise language and is a treasure of knowledge...including the pitfalls in our tax and legal system and how to avoid those pitfalls. There are great ideas in here and some eye-opening revelations for those unfamiliar with some estate and tax issues.I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to structure their will, trusts, and overall personal financial structure so that after-tax and after-death returns are maximized for you and your loved ones. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Updates with latest laws mean always up-to-date legal documents.
Great software.Simple to use.The legal team at Quicken/NOLO appear to constantly be surveying the legal findings in the courts and automaticly push the implications into the software as updates. The best part is that as the laws change, the software alerts you when you need to reprint and resign your legal documents so that they comply with the latest laws.It is the perfect balance of accurate legal advice at a very fair price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Guide for Peace of Mind
This book & CD set are all you need to do proper, professional looking Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney for Health Care & Finance, and related documents.Peace of mind at a fraction of the price for an attorney's clerk to do exactly the same things you can do with WillMaker Plus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book and software
This "book" is basically a printed user's guide to the Quicken Willmaker Plus 2006 software, which is included on the accompanying CD-ROM.That is, you get the software itself and a thick printed guide, not a bad deal at all.The guide is actually more than just a manual; instead it gives you a lot of background information on property rights, wills, living wills, living trusts, estate planning, etc.I think this is a better bundle than the software itself which doesn't even come with a printed manual. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars useful book on current healthcare economics

3-0 out of 5 stars Tort Reform Ignored
While I found Dr Cutler's analysis penetrating, I was disappointed that he did not discuss in any detail the large impact on medical costs of medical malpractice lawsuits. Not only do these lawsuits increase malpractice insurance premiums of physicians and health insurance premiums of patients, they lead to wasteful defensive medicine, as physicians do unnecessary tests and procedures in order to reduce the risk of malpractice suits. Tort reform is essential to control rising medical costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars compelling approach to fix the broken American health system
Forty million Americans lack health care insurance and costs leap three and four times the inflation rate yet few Americans feel the system provides adequate care.Harvard economics professor and health-care expert Dr. David M. Cutler believes that the problem lies with the inability for most people to understand opportunity costs based on choices that may not lead to an improved life quality. The government and medical leadership exacerbate the problem with saving money as their solution, ignoring effectiveness. He makes a strong case on how much health care has dramatically improved over the past five decades as dramatized by longer productive life spans.Dr. Cutler believes that more money should be spent on further medical advances and that universal coverage for all needs should be implemented so that the present day uninsured can afford care rather than drain at a more costly rate the system. The key is to change from a system that economically encourages doctors to choose techniques that are not always the best for the patient factoring in cost and life quality to a system that reimburses doctors for quality service (not as hard as it first sounds).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Full of Useful Information But Needs an Editor
This book is full of useful information and strategies for active traders and investors. However, it is poorly written. The author repeats himself often, while omitting important information that I guess he assumes the reader knows (for example that the mark to market election can only be changed once chosen with the specific consent of the IRS). Sections and subheadings are poorly organized. Often the author writes something like: "we recommend X for the following reasons" and no reasons follow. The book desperately needs editing. If you are prepared to put up with this and have a good understanding of the basics of the tax code as they apply to investing already then this book is very worthwhile reading. I am just starting Ted Tesser's book on taxes for traders. It is a MUCH better read. I have yet to see if it is as useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you wanted (and need) to know...
If you are an active trader, this book MUST find its way into your hands. It covers every issue necessary to help you in filing your taxes with trader status. If you can file as a trader, a whole new world of business expense deductions will be open to you. I found that this book answered every question I had, along with some I hadn't even thought of yet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Advice that could get you in trouble...
Famous authors of several other books like this one, for example Jerome Schneider, have already been * convicted * of tax fraud and have handed over their entire client lists to the US Government.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't read at your peril
If you are looking for a "feel good" book that only gives you the sugar frosting about offshore without warning you about the many pitfalls, then this book isn't for you.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book for newbies
This is a good book for teaching newbies the basics of how to go offshore, open bank accounts, and (perhaps most importantly) avoid offshore scams.

2-0 out of 5 stars VERY BASIC.... VERY DISAPPOINTED!
As a government employee, I bought this book hoping it would provide some good tips on the federal retirement system. This book may help the new or very unimformed employee, but that's it.Some of the information on government benefits was just plain wrong, which is why it only gets two stars from me.As an example, it states a FERS employee can contribute a maximum of 10% to the Thrift Savings Plan each year.Wrong! An employee has been able to contribute 15% for years and I believe there is no limit in 2006.This is not good information for a book that was updated in February 2006!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is A Very Important Book About Your Government Benefits

5-0 out of 5 stars Crucial Information
This book contains must have information for anyone owning an IRA. I had a previous version and wanted to keep current as I approach the magic age. This book tells you how to avoid fines and penalties from the dastardly IRS. Keep as much of your hard earned savings as possible for as long as possible by reading this book several times then saving it for future reference. I also marked many pages for my beneficiaries just in case. Do yourself a favor and invest in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very User Friendly!
The book is well organized.I was able to use it, immediately, to answer 'basic questions' to help a relative avoid a costly mistake and, more importantly, to learn 'options' that could help.Though I am an insurance agent, I've had little exposure to the 401(k), IRA, etc., market. This book is quickly moving me to the 'top 20% group' of informed agents and financial advisors.I highly recommend it, thanks to Ed Slott!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pay attention to the sub-title
The reviewer plugging the "MarketBuster" book has totally missed the point of this NOLO book, which is given in the subtitle: Taking Your Money Out. The reviewer is talking about strategies for growing your account.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers the new law comprehensively and accessibly
To begin with, bankruptcy law changed completely as of October 17, 2005 for really the first time since 1978. Therefore, all books published before that date are pretty much worthless since they are giving you outdated advice on the old law. Of the ones that are in print covering the new law that I have looked through, this one seems to be the best combination of accessible and complete. It does a good job of answering common questions that a person would ask about bankruptcy in the new environment, as well as going into painstaking detail about all of the changes to the law, including the new means test. Included are the steps you need to take to declare bankruptcy, the order in which you need to take them, and the forms you need to fill out. The book also talks about impacts to your life you might not have thought of, such as how declaring bankruptcy might impact your ability to get certain types of jobs or even auto insurance of all things! The reason I have read so much about this is not that I have declared or am planning to declare bankruptcy. Just call me an interested citizen that followed the debate over the new law very carefully and therefore I know a little more than the average citizen about what is in the new law. That is how I know that this book covers and emphasizes the changes so well. ... Read more
