5-0 out of 5 stars Relevant and Very Helpful
I studied the material presented within this book for three weeks prior to the exam and passed by an extremely comfortable margin.I did not find the kind of contradictions mentioned in the other review. This was the only source I relied upon in preparation for the exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
I have the 10th edition of this book. I'm studying it now for the Series 65 and find myself cursing every 3rd page or so. There are multiple typos, grammatical errors, and mis-spelled words. Even worse, a lot of the text doesn't make any sense. A subsequent paragraph often contradicts its predecessor, for example. I'm waiting until I finish it to call Dearborn's "help line" with all of my questions. It will probably take an hour to get through all of them. I do not recommend Dearborn's publications and wish that someone would kick them out of this market. Dearborn's editors are welcome to hire me to summarize all of the problems I found with this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good study aid
This is a great study aid for all first year law students. Each of the over 600 flash cards asks and answers questions designed to assist in learning first year law school torts. Each section of the flash cards (e.g., nuisance) starts with cards setting forth the black letter law (the elements) of most of the common law torts from assault to malicious prosecution. These cards are followed with flash cards presenting short fact patterns designed to test your understanding of the specific issues concerning those black letter torts. They are very effective in helping the student to focus his or her thinking process.Informative, fun and immaginative.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Law Made Easy
Great study aid to use along with your class torts textbook.Emanuel boils down the law to the essentials and includes a summary outline in the beginning of the book for easy review and study. You get the law in a simple, concise way, saving you the trouble of trying to distill the law yourself from hundreds of convoluted, wordy opinions.Emanuel saved me from stressing out before midterms and gave me a reasonable grade. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars everything is in there, but take it with a grain of salt.
If I had to suggest the purchase of this book I would recommend it. There is almost everything in the book about US antitrust. But some warnings are necessary. It's not for students. It's not for lawyers. Maybe scholars and judges can be interested. The author highlights what is not coherent in the body of untistrust legislation. He provides some solution but that solution turns out to be simple: stay put. On that we can debate, but for sure it's a useful check in the bugs of the system. Given the approach I would have given 5 stars if the author had provided some hints or quantitative analysis to the reader on the effects of some of the Supreme Court decisions on lower Courts and on the current management of antitrust law. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Practical
We used this textbook in our MBA level Business Law course. This book is an excellent resource for understanding business law from a corporate finance angle. The book is well organized and very useful as reference to any corporate manager or executive. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way to Go Sav
This book is super-great in every way.The forms are pretty darned good, but mostly, the book itself is exactly the right thickness to level up my dining room table. So when I'm not whipping out some quick construction contract form stuff, I can enjoy a meal without the table wobbling at all. The cover is colorful too- my pet ferret likes that. Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR THE HOMEOWNER
I purchased this book to help build my house.I am the general contactor for the job and I thought I would be able to find some form for the sub contractors to sign. This was not the case and it really wasn't any help to me at all.It might help someone who is starting their own business butnot for someone building their own house. ... I didn't even read the casebook because it was too blah... This was the best book I found for Future Interests...

2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat helpful
For the most part, there is nothing this book can teach you that you won't find in your casebook, but the problems are good practice. A lot of the information is helpful, but I don't know if you can trust all of the answers. My study group and I have found various confusing mistakes within and it has cost us valuable study time. See e.g. page 152 --second paragraph explaining a RAP problem (the author confuses O and A in saying that all of A's children would be born or conceived upon O's death). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and well-writen
Probably the best book on Contract Theory I know. Very rigorous but with the posibility of a second non-mathematical reading. The conceptualization of most examples and motivations in terms of buyer-seller limits the scope to economists.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous contract theory book
I really liked this book -- it's very clear and covers a breadth of material.I have two complaints: the notation is sometimes less clear than it could be, and secondly, I think some things could be made clearer using monotone methods (a la Topkis) and the Milgrom-Segal envelope theorems. But other than that, I'd say it's a fabulous book, going over a lot of material with good examples, and building its way up from simple illustration to general theory. It's more expensive than the competition, but it's worth it; trust me, I'd know -- I bought the competitors too and then returned them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional
Despite more than 20 years of research there are not many books out there on contract theory.Laffont & Martimort and Salanie are perhaps the most widely read ones. What distinguishes this book from others is its comprehence coverage of modern contract theory: unlike the others, it allocates sizable portions on multilateral/multiagent/dynamic/incomplete frameworks, which until now only had to be learned by reading journal articles. This book picks out the most important and influential models and present them in depth, while not losing sight of other streams of literature. My only complaint is the book is not exactly user-friendly in some places.I had to spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out some missing steps in derivations.Usually these were resolved in second reading, so it is not a major issue (reminded me of reading quantum mechanics...)The benefit of having a single definitive source of modern contract theory (as opposed to flipping through hundreds of journal articles) is enormous for a student like me who is new to the subject.I suggest reading Salanie along with it.Salanie is more readable and short, and these two complement each other very well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for anyone confronted with the title question
Attorney and business-law expert Anthony Mancuso presents LLC or Corporation? How to Choose the Right Form For Your Business, an in-depth guide to making the right choice when one's company has grown to the point where its legal structure needs to be upgraded to something that will protect one's assets and provide tax benefits. The question of "corporation or limited liability company?" isn't clear-cut, but since it will directly affect the legal and tax status of one's business, it is a crucial question indeed. LLC or Corporation? covers all aspects of this decision, including concerns of doing business out-of-state, money issues and personal liability concerns, converting a partnership or a sole proprietorship to another entity, converting an LLC to another entity, converting, dissolving or selling a corporation, and much more. Highly recommended for anyone confronted with the title question - it is much better to get all the facts and make an informed decision now than expend an excess of time and effort cleaning up after a mistaken choice later.

5-0 out of 5 stars An informative reference guide to the complex laws and regulations concerning neighborly disputes and intricacies
The newly expanded and updated fifth edition of Neighbor Law: Fences, Trees, Boundaries, And Noise by attorney and mediator Cora Jordan is an informed and informative reference guide to the complex laws and regulations concerning neighborly disputes and intricacies. Deftly covering laws concerning such issues as water runoff and flooding, trees that hang over property line, problems with neighboring businesses, noisy neighbors, unclear boundary lines, blocked views, high or unsightly "spite" fences, dangerously deteriorating fences, dangers to children, and so much more, Neighbor Law is a complete and thorough compendium ideal for non-specialist general readers wanting to know (and be able to enforce) their rights as a property owner in a neighborhood of property owners. Neighbor Law is very strongly recommended for anyone searching for a "user friendly" informational documentation of all the rules and regulations concerning proper neighbor responsibilities and an understanding of what can and can not be lawfully done when a conflict arises between neighbors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST book on Patent Law
This is undoubtedly the BEST book on Patent Law. It is written so well that you could read it as a bed time story. It's name couldn't be more accurate -- "Essentials" -- that's ALL it is. No fluff, no distractions. Just pure distilled patent law principles and concepts. There's a reason this book sells for $100. It would be worth buying at twice that cost. I highly recommend it.

While waiting to find out if my application to the PTO to sit for the next patent bar exam was approved, and prior to obtaining a full-fledged course of study on patent practice, I decided to invest in this book to get a better idea of what I was getting into.I must say that not only did I get a comprehensive introduction to the topic, but it was also an enjoyable read. The author uses subtle humor to get the points across, as exemplified by his use of various, patented mousetrap designs as examples, and his knowledge of patent law is superb.Indeed, there is hardly a page in the book sans footnotes and citations to case law.Read more

This was an excellent book, very well written for the layperson. The online links to further instruction and the CDROM were fabulous tools. I highly recommend this to an start-up non-profit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Step by Step Guide to Forming Your Non-Profit
This book is an excellent step by step guide for starting your non-profit corporation in California. The author does a lot of hand holding, which is especially helpful when it comes to filing your 1023 with the IRS which establishes your tax exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization.

This book has gotten us through filing papers with the Secretary of State. I haven't gotten into writing bylaws and filing tax forms yet--which should be much more challenging--but from skimming over those sections, I think I should be able to manage.
