Right to Free Speech
Okay, I understand we have freedom of speech, and textbooks are another way we can use it (apparently.)However, I'd prefer not to be a captive audience to someone's blatantly biased, snotty remarks against anyone on the other side of the fence.I pay good money for my graduate degree and right now I'm wasting my time listening to barbs and zingers.If he even attempted to just present an informative textbook with a little flavoring of opinion for spice, that would be okay.Variety is the spice of life and I like to have a comfortable debate with classmates.He overseasoned the pot and has left a sour taste in my mouth!There is no room for any other view but his.I paid $70 for that?You can't say I can't read it--it's mandatory and I didn't get to preview the book before I purchased it.And some genius bought the most recent addition, too, so there were no used!What a waste.Hello, Dr Dresang, textbooks aren't a venue to print your editorials on life.You're only one man with one man's opinion.Allow a little room for others'! ... excellent discussion of the executive branch
"The American President" is the only text that thoroughly discusses every aspect of the executive branch of the United States' government.The text covers the written and assumed powers of the presidency, the bureaucracy, the approaches of governing of past presidents, foreign affairs, the interaction between Congress and the President, the electoral process, the office of the vice president, etc...This is the finest book I have found for an excellent and thorough discussion of the American Presidency.This book is a necessary text for any registered voter.

Excellent textbook, interesting, factual, and insightful.
I read this book for a class I was taking called "The Modern Presidency".I found the book to be factual and insightful, DiClerico's observations were generally truly interesting.My favorite thing about this book was that it was an easy read, some Political Science textbooks just put you to sleep, but I found I actually enjoyed reading this one.That said, I doubt I would have picked it up to read for pleasure, but it makes an excellent textbook for junior and senior level college courses. ... Super choice!
This book is a winner!If I Were President is a fun, yet informative, book about the presidency for a young child.Illustrations are appealing to kids and the text is easily understood.A delightful read aloud for adult and child!

Finally an age appropriate book about Presidents!
I am a Kindergarten teacher and I really appreciate having books to use that give accurate information on topics I teach.This book does a super job describing the responsibilites of Presidents.We are even told that not everyone will agree with the decisions that the President makes and that the President will not always agree with congress (veto).The kids loved the part where the President's dog is in the newspaper because she had puppies.The use of children in the illustrations was appealing to my students. Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade teachers should get this book!

A good book to read before you begin
I have been working to implement an effective measurement system in government for some time now.My search is somewhere between the panacea of sure thing quick fixes and "it can't be done".This book usesa no nonsense approach which clearly understands the real world side ofmeasurement in government.I am getting copies for the city council andmanagement team as I am hoping the views shared here will draw eachparticipant from their secure pessimism to a middle ground.Let themeasurement experiment begin and count whatever progress is made a victory.
