2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, I think
Well, the fact that I'm writing a review about this book, while it's sitting open on my desk next to my computer, open and not being read, might be some evidence of how I'm enjoying this book. This book just goes on and on in complex an unclear language about a subject which shouldn't be so difficult. This book is not clear or easy to understand at all. Every sentence is awkward and followed by a footnote, and the masses of footnotes together take up half of EACH page (!), making this work look like a research project for a PhD publication. I have the casebook in this series, and sometimes it seems reading the cases alone will bring more clarity. And it turns to be true! This book might be good if you're advanted-contracts and want to know every little detail, or as an advanced reference later on, to look something up like in an encyclopedia. Some concepts, which should be pretty clear just get too in-depth coverage in this book. It's too complex for a first-year student. Sometimes it starts describing the different views out there, and then there's a jumble in your head as to what the law really is. I wish the author used his own knowledge and fluid language more than footnoted ideas from other authors.

1-0 out of 5 stars Best used as a doorstop.
This book tells you nothing that the U.C.C., Restatement 2nd, and a basic cases and examples book (Farnsworth, for instance) doesn't already tell you. This hornbook, however, is much denser and dryer than these other texts.Surely there must be better study texts out there than this for the first-year Contracts student.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best Hornbook I Own
And I own far too many, especially for someone who actually spends time writing Amazon reviews.

Very fast delivery, thanks I was in a hurry and you have made me very happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for the Instructor; for the Student
This is an excellent text at various levels of interest, desire, talent and time. The text is arranged that given the time, the Instructor can dig deeper and deeper into thorny topics. Additionally, curious students can rely on numerous web sources for enhanced views and greater depth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not Only For Students
I am using this textbook in several of my classes, and let me just say- it has everything I could have hoped for. The chapters are laid out well, many cases are cited, and the student is given actual cases to figure out, with the citations given at the end so he can find the actual outcome. I've found this to be among the best textbooks. It is so good, in fact that I've reccomended it to several of my friends who are going into business for themselves. This covers nearly everything they'll need to know regarding contracts, secured transactions, warranties, etc.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Foundation of Labor Relations Practice
Hardin is to theoretical and strategic labor relations as Elkouri is to contract administration. It is the place my staff is instructed to start on any collective bargaining issue. Also as with Elkouri, it tries so hard to be balanced that neither management nor union regotiators may be able to find the hard edges they might be looking for.Its utility in the public sector depends on how similar the state or local bargaining law is to the National Labor Relations Act.If the bargaining duty language is similar to the NLRA, the public sector practitioner will find Hardin useful. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars confusing but convincing
Magnesen is probably a great detective and FBI agent, but he gets a C grade for organization and writing. The book was difficult to follow; as were the characters. One thing that would have helped immensely would have been to put a list of key players and their job/title descriptions at the end so we could refer to the list when the people would be mentioned in later chapters. However, his purpose in writing was not intended as great literature, but to convince readers that Dummar is not a kook. And, he did succeed in doing that because I did put the book down feeling like the "Mormon Will" could be real.Magnesen discovers some very convincing evidence that did not come out in the trial or was not pursued.
5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!
It took a the span of 24 hours to read this book.Every second I was not working or taking care of a 10 month-old baby I was hiding in a corner with my nose stuck in this book. The author starts as a skeptic, but through brillant research and persistence he uncovers the truth of this long-awaited fiasco. His years of FBI experience really shines through his journey to the untold story.Highly Recomended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing and Informative
I came away from this story convinced that justice was not served in the case of the Howard Hughes will. Mr. Magnesen's investigation of this mystery clearly demonstrates why he enjoyed a long and successful career as an FBI agent. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic. One of the best study guides on the market.
Brief, clear statements of the law. Lots and lots of practice problems. Just a fantastic study guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent treatise
This is an excellent treatise on the law of property.Because the sections on Bailments, Gifts, Rights of Possessors of Land, Present Possessory Freehold Estates, and Future Interests were very useful, I would recommend this book for the first semester of property.Unfortunately, Hovenkamp's coverage of issues traditionally discussed in second semester property is not as useful. For second semester, I would suggest using Understanding Property of the Understanding Series. This series is published by Lexis.Understanding Property is also useful for first semester, but because Hovenkamp's treatise covers first semester issues well, it's not really necessary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another night law students dream
This is a very consise treatise of Property Law - it is not your typical hornbook - this is an excellent study book - with excelent hypos - it has very terse restatements of the law with killer Essay - hypo problems ( Lots of them too - numbers of roughly tracking the importance of the subject - IE lots of Adverse Possession probs - a few finders law probs ) - its like a Siegels or Emanuels Q&A but with hard covers - it is really a "find" for those studying property law. Im tickled the most recent edition is 2001 ! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading in high school
Great and informative book.Puts a lot of the problems now faced in the west into their context.Covers a lot of land history in the west not generally covered in school, but definately not a dry read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and thought provoking
An excellent rendition of how western law had transformend the American West into a land for humans, filled with dam after dam.Wild salmon have no where to go.Laws seem to be more powerful than Nature!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, thought-provoking
A very scholarly, but accessible, history of the development of the West and the social/political/economic structures that shaped land, water and resource rights there. In particular, Wilkinson is addressing the notoriousHardrock Mining Act of 1872 (still in effect), the distribution of land andgrazing rights, the fisheries of the Pacific Northwest, and the timberindustry. His analysis of the Lords of Yesterday - his term for theantiquated statutes that govern those industries - is very convincing. Thebook's only weakness is that this is a 1992 text (presumably researched inthe decade previous) that doesn't reflect changes in the laws and politicalpressures over the past decade. It would benefit from a new edition. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars astonishing
I go to Harvard law school and I have found this book to be helpful in my field of study. Although i also study criminal justice law I have now become interested in environmental and this book has been impressive. This book is a life saver. It was classy and sophisticated. Please go buy this and I hope to see some new challenging faces at Harvard. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an outstanding book.
I've used this book in two seated classes and one online course on environmental law. If you want a glorified HAZMAT course or have decided that the way our legal system actually operates doesn't matter, then look elsewhere. This is not a science book (nor should it be). If you want a text that students find easy to read and that provides comprehensive coverage of environmental law and our legal system, this is your book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Book!
I've used "Environmental Law" by Nancy K Kubasek and Gary S. Silverman in two seated classes and one online course. It is an outstanding text for describing the parameters of our legal system to students. Those to want a glorified HAZMAT approach to environmental law (or want to ignore the legal system) might not like the book. I love it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Didactic and morally condescending
My biggest complaint is Willis's assumptions about the reader. She assumes every reader is deeply and fundamentally flawed, with money only exacerbating existing conditions. People that are relatively level-headed and well-adjusted will find little in this book about the trouble money can bring. They will, however, find out how money affects those that already have psychological issues. The book should not be used as a predictor of the problems that come with money.
5-0 out of 5 stars Opportunities for Young or Old Inheritors
Excellent book for individuals, who have inherited money or have accumulated a large amount of wealth at any early age and retired.Gives examples of opportunities for enriching ones life and providing knowledge of how to maintain wealth for future generations.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Book for the Right Reasons
Navigating the Dark Side of Wealth is an extremely valuable book for all the right reasons, because its focus is not on accumulating and multiplying material riches but on fostering the emotional and spiritual values so vital to coping with the destructive allurements, issues and challenges that confront many inheritors of material wealth today. It is a text on developing character and morality -- on protecting one's soul against the pervasive ravages of human greed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone even thinking of getting a divorce!
I bought this book and even though I used a lawyer it was great.I totally understood everything to expect and it did not seem so confusing.I really liked seeing what the forms are.The info about mediation would have helped me a lot if I ordered the book before we went to the lawyer. The advice about custody was so right.

2-0 out of 5 stars divorce is STILL too difficult even with this book..
even with the book, i feel like its too much of a maze for us.. we might have to get a lawyer after all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Empowers Producers Against Moochers and Looters
From the aptly named Galt Press comes the Complete Guide to Asset Protection Strategies by Mark Warda, Attorney at Law.In modern America, no one remains safe from frivolous lawsuits.A person's entire life savings can vanish overnight thanks to a tort system that rewards envy and careless living. The American legal system authorizes tort lawyers to work on contingency fees with no penalty other than wasted time if they lose but huge payoffs if they win. This arrangement encourages the filing of frivolous lawsuits against easy yet wealthy targets.According to the author:
5-0 out of 5 stars Readable overview ofa variety of asset protection techniques
Describes a number of asset protections strategies, and for the real estate owner, explains how to combine the strategies together to potently isolate your liabilities and defend your assets. Read together with his book on land trusts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Regurgitation of Old Ideas
I was very disappointed with this book, and only after reading it did I find out that Warda doesn't even practice in the area of asset protection, but instead just cranks out "self-help" type book (over 60, according to his own plug). The old phrase "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" seems to be particularly applicable to Mr. Warda's knowledge of asset protection, which translates into little more than a re-write of other (now outdated) works from last century. I guess you'll buy this if you want the entire Warda-on-everything collection, but take a pass if your specific interest is asset protection. ... Read more
