Used this text in my Masters of Science in Real Estate
The book is useful if you have no experience with real estate law.It presents real estate legal concepts in a logical manner breaking topics up into such things as easements, etc.However, much of the information is covered in the real estate law class if you have taken the California Salesperson exam.

Complete, concise and understandable
I am not a law student, but I want to feel secure in the legal aspects of my activities as a real estate investor. This book provides exactly that. It is easy to understand and very well organized. Comprehensive, but unbelievably out of date.
This book simplifies corporations law and gives concrete examples and good summaries. A Valuable Study Guide
I cannot imagine getting through my exam study for corporations without this guide.It gives a very clear explanation of the topics that were covered in class.It is very helpful to people only taking corporations because of the bar exam rather than a specific interest in practicing in this area.One caveat - unlike some other outlines, this text does not specifically brief any cases, so it is still essential to keep up with the text and attend class.

A must own for law students taking a corporations law class!
This gouge explains corporation formation in a format that is easy to understand.This is especially helpful to law students who have never had a business course prior to law school.I found the author's coverage ofthe duties of coporate officers and those of shareholders to bestraightforward and easy to understand.Additionally, the coverage ofcurrent case law in the area of the Business Judgment Rule, along with examtips and "test your knowledge" questions were extremely helpful.(class taken in 1998) ... Useful book
This book was somewhat useful, but I found it to be not as helpful as a Gilberts Law Summary.The "Nutshell" was, in some places, just as confusing and convoluted as the case book.But it was very helpful in assisting me to understand some of the basic concepts.

Not the best I've had, not the worst
You'll most likely have this assigned, or you won't be reading this...so since you have no choice in the casebook your prof is using, here's my 2 cents:
One of the best casebooks my 1L year
First, you must consider that a) this is a law school casebook, it's not meant to be light reading, and b) my review might be somewhat tained by the fact that I've taken a Contracts course taught by Mel (an awesome lecturer), but: this is a more clearly organized and well edited casebook than most. Poor organization and explanations
Of all the textbooks I've ever had in law school and undergraduate classes, this book is likely the most frustating and the worst.Read more

Poorly Written
The book is poorly written, which makes it difficult to read and understand.There are very few examples.The end of each chapter has a 10 question quiz, but there are no answers included.The practices they teach in the Prospecting section are questionable.

What You Need to Get Started!
This is an excellent book that covers all the basics of getting started in real estate. It goes into the systems you need to be successful, such as developing your listing presentation, servicing your listings, and advertising. Everything is here. I recommend this book highly!! (It also helped me pass the CA broker exam.)

Good, to the point, technical overview - A must read for any manager
I am trying to educate myself on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and bought this, and another book by Scott Green to get started."What is Sarbanes-Oxley", is an excellent starting place.At just over 100 pages, the book gives an overview of the sections of the Act (404, 302, etc.) one needs to know in order to navigate through the terms, terminology and subtleties of the Act.
Disappointing
I needed to know more about Sarbanes-Oxley for work and ordered this book.While I was waiting for it to arrive, I went onto the Internet and downloaded some information, including the text of the legislation itself.
Finance Manager
This book provided a brief overview and was short on application which I required.Perhaps the books intent did not comply with my needs.However,"Manager's Guide to Sarbanes Oxley Act" proved valuable and aided in presentation to our managers group for the need for internal controls. ... Read more

A Must-Have for University Administrators
Kaplin & Lee's "The Law of Higher Education (Third Edition)" was the required text for a graduate course, "Legal Aspects of Higher Education" and should be present on the bookshelf of any university administrator.The book's subtitle, "A Comprehensive Guide to Legal Implications of Administrative Decision Making," is wholly accurate in describing the scope and utility of this massive tome (over 1,000 pages from cover to cover).

Findlay and Farber treat environmental issues in this work that is a part of the "Nutshell" legal series. Law students snap these works up around exam time to make sure they haven't missed any valuable tidbits, andthis book has that sort of "Cliff's Notes" feel to it -- that is,it is not an exhaustive environmental law treatise, but makes an excellentsupplement to such treatises. ... This set me straight on a few things while setting up my business. It is well written and easy to understand. I would recommend this to any 1st time business owner starting out.

Full of the information you expect based upon the title of the book. The information is detailed so you have the guidance you sought.
Just what the doctor ordered!
Nolo's Legal Guide to Starting and Running a Small Business was exactly what I needed to help start my company off on the right foot. I don't have a very strong legal backround and would have been way over my head if I'd tried to forge ahead totally alone but at the same time I didn't want to spend a fortune consulting a lawyer. If you're in a similar situation then Nolo's Legal Guide is the perfect solution. It is well written, well organized, thorough, and very easy to use. It's a great general start-up kit that would be helpful to any fledgling business that I can think of. If I had had to call a lawyer to answer every legal question that arose in the first couple of months (a huge number) then my company may easily have never gotten off the ground. I was so pleased with this product that I have since purchased two more Nolo books (Tax Savvy for Small Business and The Employer's Legal Handbook) that are more directed at business owners who have gotten through the initial start-up phase. good organization of estate planning topics
The columns are interesting in themselves, but are much more searchable with an index and grouping by subject, starting from planning early in life, then progressing through changing needds at marraige, parenthood, retirment, and estate settlement.This is a great guide for learning about transfer of wealth and how the government is a party to it.The quotations at the beginning of some topics are a nice opeing statement to get you thinking philosophically about a subject, or just to give you a chuckle while reading an otherwise dry subject.
