1-0 out of 5 stars David Brock admits he was wrong about Anita Hill
I do not understand why this book is still in print, or at the very least is not published with a huge disclaimer on the front cover. The author himself has admitted in more recent books (_Blinded by the Right_ and others) that he was *lying* when he wrote this book, and that he deliberately spun every piece of information about Anita Hill to discredit her.
1-0 out of 5 stars This is a smear job trying to pass off as real literature.
This book is clearly partisan without any objectivity whatsoever. All attempts at actual journalistic integrity totally failed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anita Hill: Slave Girl for Feminazis
Brock did an excellent job sifting and analyzing how Anita Hill's charges do not add up. This is very well written and Brock approaches the case in a very independent-minded way (his latest self-flagellating recantation notwithstanding). Doubts from both sides are aired. Corroborating (or non-corroborating) testimony is matched. Character witnesses, consistent or inconsistent statements, chronologies are included.

5-0 out of 5 stars at long last
This book fills a gaping hole that has existed in federal criminal law. Fassler has managed to write the seemingly impossible -- a book that simultaneously deals with all aspects of federal prosecution from the defense's point of view, while at the same time making the subject understandable to the average defendant. It is difficult to do justice his effort. Suffice it to say that I know of defense attorneys who buy this book for their clients, and then find themselves referring to it again and again for their own use.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Everyone Interested In Truth and Decisionmaking
This is a very unique book and entirely appropriate for nonlawyers. This is not a "law book" on scientific evidence. The authors merely use Daubert -the case that announced the Supreme Court's current approach to scientific expert testimony- as the vehicle for an extended meditation on the nature of truth. There are very few case citations, and all jargon is thoroughly explained in advance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Belongs in every critical thinker's library
I disagree with the previous reviewer's comments that the book is largely of use to the legal professioin.I find the law case serves as a great backdrop to understanding science and judging scientific claims. Many great principles are explained in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Requires a bit of grappling with math, but well worth it
Since O.J. Simpson's double homicide trial acquainted everyonewith the concepts of RFLP and PCR testing for DNA, the issue ofscience in courtroom has been on the frontburner. As Foster and Huber demonstrate, however, this issue has had a long and controversial history.Read more

Editorial Review

Ronald Kessler, an investigator reporter who has worked for the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, researched deep within the FBI to produce one of the most thorough looks ever at the agency. Most of his findings focus on changes in the bureau since the days of autocratic director J. Edgar Hoover. He also shows how the FBI solved such cases as the World Trade Center bombing, covered up internal problems, and instituted many technological changes in criminal investigations.Kessler's research raised questions that played a role in the eventual removal from office of director William Sessions; events that reflect Kessler's investigative knowledge of the FBI. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent insider account of the agency
The FBI is one of the most respected yet least understood agencies in the federal government.Given it is frequently misunderstood, this is an excellent book to inform the public about the FBI's history, the good and the bad.5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
If you want to know about what the FBI does, this is a must read.Ronald Kessler is an award-winning journalist and he does an excellent job of taking the reader inside the most powerful law enforcement agency on earth.4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
I am impressed with "The FBI: Inside the World's Most Powerful Law Enforcement Agency." Kessler explains the workings of the FBI in great detail. He stays on track most of the time, although rambles now and then. His story is very intersting. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it just because it's the only book available
I hadn't heard good things about this book, but given the scarcity of exam preparation guides available for the FSWE I decided it was worth a shot.I did not receive any pleasant surprises.
1-0 out of 5 stars The publishers should be ashamed of themselves
I'm glad so many other people out there agree with me.Obviously little care was put into this book, which can only be a cynical way to cash in on the demand for a legit FSWE study guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Reference Book On Small Claims Court
This book has information on how to prepare your case, win in court and collect your money. You can learn how to determine the damages, mediate the settlement, write a demand letter, file and serve papers, prepare for court and collect your money when you win. A big plus, this book includes information for all 50 States. For 24-hour access to straightforward legal solutions check out www.nolo.com. The author, Ralph Warner, helped found Nolo in 1971, and is one of the recognized pioneers of the self-help law movement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Veteren Should Read This
I am a patriot and have gone to war for my country.I would do it again all the while thanking God for the good people that work so diligently, as Linda Hunt has, to keep our government honest and out in the open. This is an intriguing book and there is much evidence that things of this nature are still taking place.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inadequately researched
I have to agree with Robert Carver that at least some of the information in this book is inaccurate. Whether Hunt is an opportunist or not, I cannot say, and that is beside the point. Motives and intentions are matters of speculation; however, I do know for a fact that least some of the information in this book is inaccurate. I do not question Kathleen Sullivan's perspective that this book is objective (though perhaps not "painstakingly" so) nor do I disagree with the position that this should all be brought to light; however, in the tremdendous volume of data processed in writing this book, I do know for a fact that some things, surely without malice, were inaccruately portrayed. Since the reputations of individuals are at stake, I find this unfortunate indeed. Being someone who is going into teaching as a second career, I have been made aware of the importance of telling students to always question the validity of what they read even in history textbooks from school. Before giving credence to what you read in, or cite from this book, please do corroborate the information (especially if it has to do with any one of a very large number of individuals listed by name).

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource!
Having read many books and articles about the U.S. government's secret recruitment of Nazi scientists and war criminals, I can state - without hesitation - that Linda Hunt's "Secret Agenda" is unusually accurate, painstakingly objective, and well documented.Although her revelations about the creation of NASA by Nazi recruits and documented war criminals may be painful for some individuals who are devoted to, and highly supportive, of our federally funded space agency; the information contained in Secret Agenda should nevertheless be made widely known.Only by learning the truth about the secretive sins of our government's employees and leaders, can we - as citizens - work to ensure that such sins are not repeated in the future. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Indispensible Resource
The Federal Information Manual provides a wealth of information to anyone interested in how the government stores and discloses information it collects. It is meticulously researched, intelligently organized, and elegantly written.Anyone who has had to wade through the text of the Freedom of Information Act or related statutes will find Stephen Gidiere's book to be a helpful guide. While lawyers will find it to be an invaluable desk reference, the book is a godsend for non-lawyer researchers seeking information from the government.I highly recommend this superb work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, practical FOIA/government info guide
I found this book to be an incredible source for finding your way around the very tricky FOIA and other government information statutes. Anyone who needs access to government records or information, suspects the government is keeping secrets, or wants to keep their private or confidential information protected while in the hands of the goverment needs this book.Despite the complex subject, the Manual is surpisingly easy to read and follow. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars TRULY a desk reference on 19 federal employment laws.
The first thing I worried about after incorporating my business and before hiring my first employees was all the employment laws I had to follow. I had been warned that there are many laws that I need to comply with proactively to ensure minimal problems in the future. I knew that starting a small business and making it succeed would be very hard and I didn't want to make it any harder by leaving myself open to legal liabilities. I originally had to look through several references trying to understand all the different employment laws till Nolo released this book last year and I felt a huge relief. Read more

If you plan on taking Federal Courts, get this book. Even if you are a genius or a masochist and would prefer to go hard-core and use only Hart and Wechsler, get this book anyway. Seriously, just get it. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Every law student should have a copy.
I'm a very average law student, and my federal courts class was stacked with the top 2nd and 3rd year students in my school. Despite this, I got the highest grade in the class. The reason...this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars An invaluable resource for Federal Courts
All of the thousands of law school study guides tout themselves as a means of breaking down the often complex material for students.Unfortunately, however, few are able to accomplish that goal, as the study guides themselves are often almost as large as the casebooks and do little to demystify law school courses.Chemerinsky's text is a refreshing change, as his Federal Jurisdiction hornbook helps you understand what is universally seen as the hardest course in law school, Federal Courts.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love Charles Alan Wright
Wright's work is more technical than Glannons, but I used it for my civil procedure class, and I did extremely well in that class. I would buy both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick summaries to get you through class and 1st year exams
If you are not understanding civil procedure and want something to clarify the rules or subject matter/personal jurisdiction, this is a good book to start. It provides clear summaries of the rules as well as the policydebates underlying issues raised in procedure.Keep in mind that this isnot a law review article, so in essence this book is more aimed atsummarizing all the critiques and debates that have gone on before ratherthan looking at the law from a different angle. But if you want a shortread that will get you through the exam, this book is just as about asuseful as anything else you might come across. There are professors whobase their classes on this book, as well as students who diligently readthis book every day to prepare for the socratic questions they can await inclass the next day.If you want good grades, though, I think it takes morethan reading all these horn books and what not.A lot of it just comesdown to the processing and understanding of the material, which can bedaunting at times and actually just comes at different times for differentpeople. However much you read these hornbooks, if you don't understand thestuff or can't apply it, it won't actually help you that much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Succinct summaries of FRCP
This book is commonly used by first year students in civil procedure.I have known many students in the past who have found the book helpful in explaining the intricacies of the federal rules.A must read. ... Read more
